How are speaking voice and singing voice related? Can you tell from someone's speaking voice the best way for them to sing? I guessed from a friend's speaking voice that he would sing well...now he is the vocalist for my band. I can't really find a good singing voice for myself, it would be great if i could determine that from my speaking voice.

1. nobody "can't" sing.
2. I doubt it. People with thick scouse accents can have normal singing voices. Mark Knopfler is a total geordie, and you wouldn't guess form his singing voice (only from his lyrics...)

I don't think you can tell how well someone can sing by the way they speak. For example I wouldn't think John Lennon was a good singer if I just heard his speaking voice.

My speaking voice is nasal and kind of low... and nerdish. My singing voice is decent.
When people here recordings of me singing, they say they never would have guessed it was me. It's quite a back-handed compliment.

My friend speaks like an irish person with a pole too far up their ***, but she sings void of any accent and has a beutiful singing voice. Speaking and singing voices cannot tell about one another.

I tend to like the singing of british accented speakers a lot more than american accented speakers. Its weird, I don't know how to explain it. Obviously they don't have the accent in their singing, but it just, to me, sounds better.

I wouldn't say they're too far apart. Since I think about vocals everyday, and try to practice everyday, I can't help but pay attention to the tone of people's voices. I can usually tell if someone is a vocalist just by listening to them... because they understand how their voice works and at times they might do some strange things with their voices while talking. Or just go all over the place, as far as range goes. But when I hear people talk with a near-monotone, and slightly raspy voice from smoking, well, that tells me they don't know a thing about vocals, usually. Haha.
