So, I rented this game today and all I got to say aboot it is that is pretty confusing to me. As of now, I am trying to get my bearings but that is proving tricky since the instructions are missing. With that said its going to take me time to get used to it. Now, from what I've played, it seems like a really cool game. So, my question to you all is, what can I expect from it? :)

500 hours of exploration. And then another 500 hours of character building.

Lots of reading
Lots of jumping while you run to get your stats up
Confusing character/town names
Not being able to kill anyone because of stupid guards and bounties
I could never get into it.
See you auntie!

Actually, it's called The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It's the third chapter in the TES series, following Arena and Daggerfall.
The instructions are in a directory on the cd. Morrowind might seem intimidating at the beginning, but its interface and gameplay mechanics are very logical.
Morrowind is a very large game, and offers a lot of freedom. It can last several hundreds of hours, but it doesn't have to. You start off very weak (and, as you might have noticed, very slow), but soon you'll be swinging swords, spellcasting and running like the best. The game offers a great story, if you take the time to read the numerous books and parchments you find along your trip.
And it's just plain fun.

It's a very good game which i enjoyed a lot myself. But it can be a bit overwhelming.
Read your Journal (white button on xbox version), all relevant quest-related information is stored there automatically.
The best part of the game is really the depth of the culture and history - different guilds, cults and authorities ****ing eachother over, ruins of lost civilizations and shrines to ancient religions. They really did a great job on the world you play in, it's worked out very well.
I also like how you can train your character very specifically by not just handing out generic EXP points but rewarding skills individually.
A few downsides are the combat system which feels awkward, especially if your skill for that weapon is low (you strike but you don't hit, wtf is that). The game gets a bit easy after a while (you can crank up the difficulty though). Animations are horrible. NPC's might tell you they're busy right now but they stand in the same place 24/7 doing absolutely nothing... and there are too many **** cliffracers.

I was addicted to Morrowind for quite a while. Although it had it's faults, it still ruled.
I have a few characters, my main one is a Dark Elf. The other, a Kajit thief.

I have it but I too find it impossible to get into. Granted, the huge world is cool, and the story's not bad and its cool that its open-ended, but honestly the battle system is so boring and awful I can't stand playing the game.

It's better on PC because of the mass amount of mods created for it. Nevertheless, its still a great game on X-Box.

I love it and am addicted to it any time i play xbox that is the game i play, it's cool because there is no specific time limit to do anything the world is yours, oh yeah and for that guy who said that when you kill people you have to worry about guards and bounty, weel nott if you get your marksman and sneak up all the way, you can sneak around the city and snipe some mofo's :thumb:

Just use a Frenzy Humanoid spell so they attack you first, that way it's not considered a crime to kill people, whoever they are. I made a very strong custom one called The Nippletwister and i have no trouble killing anyone. Hell, you can even use it to obtain armor from guards and ordinators (the royal guard armor in Tribunal looks badass).
Comes in real handy if you join the Morag Tong. It's not really the bounty that bothers me since making money is extremely easy in Morrowind... but the guards take all your stolen stuff, which leaves me basically buttnaked.

One of my friends made a ring using Frenzy Humanoid/Calm Humanoid, in essence, cancelling each other out. I don't know why...
Another spell he made: He would attack something and it would instantly teleport to a point high above Balmora. So when the attacker hit the ground, well theyd be dead instantly in most cases.

You can just throw the stuff on the ground, go turn yourself in and pay bounty, then pick it up.

I definitely built my character up way faster than 500 hours. Daedric Dai-Katana & full Glass Armor = ownige.
This game took me a while to beat, but it was very enjoyable, I recommend it to anyone looking for an immersive game universe.
My only gripes with it were really the lack of variety of enemies.

If you're considering it, get it on PC. Theres massive amounts of mods out that add npc's/armor/weapons/locations/quests/and little doo-dads to make the game better. If youve seen the in game character models, well all I can say is that the modded ones are much better looking. Plus, the amount of mods out there almost double the game in size.

Full Glass Armor is so easy to get. I have not played in awhile so I dont remeber the names, but you go to the big fire mountain thing and in the outpost near it there is a chest with glass armor in a room with one guy. You can buy the armor. Or you can steal it. Or kill the guy and steal it.

Then buy this game. This game is exactly what all MMOs strive to be. It is really deep, but it is hard to start. I reinstalled it with a ton of plugins. My favorites are ones that make werewolves and vampires realistic. People even add quests, continents, items, and races all the time. My favorite plugin of all time though is the Complete Locks. All the doors in towns lock at night and you can bash all the locks in. Makes it better for the non-theif to actually treasure hunt.
Theivery in this game is also quite fun. I love to loot a house and sell it to the pawn shop for tons of money.
I am having quite a bit of difficulty getting back into playing it again, but it's coming back to me.

the main quest doesn't have to be 80 hours though, it's as simple as getting you rlevel up and killing vivec and taking wariathguard from his dead body, then go to that dude in the corpursarium in tel fyr and he will activate it for you if you do something for him, and even if you don't do that the main quest deos not take 80 hours.

To whoever asked about starting as a Nord...It depends on how you're going to play the game. Nords are very strong and they're resistant to frost damage. But they're not the brightest bunch, so their capability for magic is lacking when compared to other races. If you plan on playing the game as a warrior type (go around and smash everything in your path) then playing as a Nord should be fine. Whatever character you end up playing as, make sure that your major and minor skills suit the type of character you're using. For example, if you're playing as a Nord, I wouldn't suggest putting Conjuration, Mysticism, Alteration etc as your skills. Instead, I'd put Heavy Armor, Blunt Weapon, Long Sword, Athletics etc.
Glass armor is extremely easy to get for being such good armor. If you go to Ghostgate (the gateway into Red Mountain Region) there is a full set of glass armor downstairs that if you're good you can steal. Watch out though because there are other people in the room so I wouldn't try it unless you've got a cameleon spell and/or your sneak skill is quite high. Alternatively you can go to the Fighter's guild in Ald Ruhn. There is a locked room downstairs with a full set of glass armor. The Lord's Mail is one of the best pieces of armor in the game. It is relatively easy to get as well. It's being worn by a guy in the sewers beneath Ebonhart. When you go in and find him he attacks you. He's not a very stron character so a person as low as level 3 can probably kill him and take the armor.
There are lots of dark elves (Dunmer as they're traditionally called) in the game. The Dunmer were on Morrowind before other races. They are the native race.

I've got it on XBox so I can't play any of the mods out there, but a lady I work with (that I got into Morrowind) sends me screen shots every so often of different mods that she's playing. She sent me some of a vampire mod that is just unreal. I guess the author of that mod did an excellent job. The mod has a main quest that she says is almost as long as the reagular main quest. New armor, weapons, characters...everything. Some of the screen shots are just amazing. I really want to play it on pc so I can play all the mods, but my computer won't run it and I can't afford all the upgrades (or new computer) it would take to make it possible.

I was doing that while my friends were watching me play. It was extremely difficult because they kept taunting me saying I'd get caught. Every time i got one piece of armor, I saved my game. If the guy saw me, he'd pull out a massive hammer and start beating my face in.

morrowind...many a time do i look back and say "****, i wasted 500 hours of my life on that game, and loved every bit"
anyway, the PC version is far better than the Xbox, mainly because you can tweak the difficulty and the loading time is much shorter. But in general, Morrowind is one of the worst games i've ever played.
Now think about it, whats great about morrowind is its depth, character growth system, and vastness...okay, but what about everything else.
1. the animations suck for everything
2. you swing a weapon, but if you skill sucks, you miss, but the animation still show the blade hitting your target
3. Everyone just stands around, no one is doing anything. You don't see guards arresting people, shoppkeepers sorting goods, you know, stuff that people do in their position. Not only that but no one sleeps or even sits down.
4.Way too many bugs...mainly on the PC version, but a patch fixes most of them.
anyway, what im trying to say is that if any of those oversights were in any other game...you'd probably be like, "god, this game sucks!" so technically to me, its a pretty bad game, but still awsome.
Also, has anyone made a mod? you know, a good one? not those, Uber-weapon mods, but like, a quest mod or a new town of something?

theres also a full suit (minus the bracers, no one seems to have those) on a dead body in a Dunmer stronghold. Korgoruhn i think. Hell i don't know if its THAT one, but there is alot of loot there anyway, like two daedric gauntlets and a full suit of Indoril armor on a body outside.

ALso. Important thing. Get really good at alchemy. Once you've reached a certain level(about 60), you can make tons of free money making potions. Always sell the potions to either Creeper or the Mudcrab Merchant. Creeper is much easier to find, he's a scamp that lives in the Orc manor in Caldera.

Alchemy is a cool feature but it's too easy to abuse. Intelligence determines how strong and durable a potion is. You can also make fortify intelligence potions. You do the math.
I didn't know writs kept guards from taking stolen stuff btw. I thought it just removed the bounty, since the stealing and killing are seperate crimes.
