My favourite two actors are Chaplin and Keaton. Am I alone here, or are there a few other freaks like me that like silent films?

The only silent film I've seen is Nosferatu, and while the acting, however over-the-top it was, I liked it, but I didn't think the music fit it, and I don't like how they give the text its own shot; that takes me out of it.

I've only seen Depp's Keaton impersonation in Benny and Joon. But, if he's as slapstick as Depp was, I'll probably check him out some time.

I'm not a big fan of older movies like these, although I must admit I own an embarassingly large collection of horror movies from the 30s to 60s.

Did you see one of the remastered/re-soundtracked ones? With the techno soundtrack? That might explain the music not fitting.

And no, you're not alone, threadstarter. Keaton especially is brilliant.

I'm not a huge fan of silent movies. I do like some older movies, just not quite that old.

Yeah, it was techno sounding; had a lot of synthesizer in it. I found it very odd that a movie from then would have a soundtrack like that.

Yeah, it didn't originally have it. Someone decided to spruce it up a little for a 75-year re-release or something.

Well enough. I've still little idea when everything will be unlocked, though.

Quoted for truth. :thumb:

Brilliant actors, and masters of comedy. I have a few dvds of some of their work and have seen a couple of their feature length films and they're all brilliant. I was going to get the massive boxset of EVERYTHING they've ever done (including solo stuff from both Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy before they met up to become a duo) but it was like £160 so I don't think I'll be getting that anytime soon. :(

Old movies are awsome. I really like Chaplin's stuff, especially Modern Times and The Great Dictator. But aside from silent films, The movies from the 40s and 50s are pretty sweet. Like Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon

I don't think I'd last one minute while watching a silent movie.

Silent films don't do much for me.

I do like a lot of films from the '70s, like Taxi Driver, Star Wars, The Godfather, Dirty Harry, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Dog Day Afternoon, etc., etc.

I didn't know such a boxed set was available, but now that I do, I may well get it. You're right though, they were absolute masters.

Something else I thought incredible about them was that when Ollie died, Stan vowed never to perform again since he'd lost his partner. And didn't, for the last 17 years or whatever it was he lived.
