7'4 is only almost two feet taller than me. I find that hard to imagine.

Anyway!
Yao Ming was a revelation for basketball, being the first truly huge person to have mobility and skill. If this guy has a good shot and can get up and down the court he could be one of the NBA's most wanted players!

His outside shot is meaningless, it would be absurd to ever have him use it.
When Yao first came into the league one of the first videos of him featured him nailing 3 after 3, but in his career he's just 1/4. If you have a guy like that, you need him permanently planted under the basket.

I've read about him before...And no, I don't think he'll be a 20/10 player in the NBA :p
However, he can be at the very least a good situational player should he stay healthy and improve his conditioning.

Hes got some meat on him, unlike Yao. I dont see any reason why he couldnt be a fairly decent player in the NBA.

Dear god, if he can jump that's some ridiculous blocking potential.
The picture of him holding the basketball hurts my brain.
If the kid has any real talent at all instead of just being a tall mofo he'll probably do decently, he should have another year to train before entering the draft though.

Does anyone have NBA Live 2004? There's this one video clip before you start it up where Earl Boykins is saying their little "if it's in the game, it's in the game" slogan, and Marcus Camby comes by and, hardly bending his elbow, rubs his head. "Hey man, you're messin up my hurr!"
Anyway, that's some pretty crazy stuff right there. But then again we have guys who are 7'1 and 7'5 at my old school, and I used to see them on a practically daily basis. I'm 6'2, so anyone who's over a foot taller than I am is one tall mofo. However, neither one of those guys are especially offensively talented (at least the 7'1 one isn't... haven't seen the 7'5 guy play), if they were they would have gone to a better school.

The NBA live thing was kind of random. Well, it did fit into the topic because of Camby being taller than Boykins. Yeah, I have to agree, taller people don't have a offensive game.
7'9" That is crazy. He doesn't have to jump to dunk? To me, he looks like a old caveman who can't do anything, atleast so far.

As was stated earlier, you don't want a 7'9 guy hitting threes! You want that kind of guy in the block, rebounding. What good is his height outside unless he's Dirk Nowitzki and can hit a solid 40%+ from outside the arc?

I like Steve Nash, I just don't like the fact that he was named the MVP.
But I love Dirk, honestly. He stunk bad in the playoffs, hit 33% of his shots in an elimination game, and in that game yelled at Jason Terry after Terry let Nash tie the game, which messed up the Mavs' final possession, and then after yelling at his teammates at the end of regulation, missed every shot he took in overtime, including a memorably horrible turnaround three that would have tied the game.
That's right ladies and gents, he has officially become the NBA's Peyton Manning.

I know you dont want him hitting threes....I was just using that as an example of him actually having some skill, instead of the Shaq-type player who cant make anything outside of 8 feet.
But if your big man can step out and hit a three everynow and then, why not? I'm not saying have him spot up for 200 threes per season, but if he can step out and make them everynow and then, then cool.

Well, I'd rather have the NBA version of Peyton Manning than of Ryan Leaf :p
Really though, Dirk doesn't fit in with what the Mavs are aiming for now-a more defensive oriented team with more post up play and less outside shooting. So, the Mavs should look to trade Dirk to satisfy both him and them in the long run. IE, to the Bobcats for Emeka Okafor. Sure, the Cats had been planning to build around Emeka, but if they get the chance to get an all star and all nba guy, they'd be foolish not to take it.
The Cats could build a euro based team :D
PG Roko Leni-Ukic
SG Willie Green
SF Sasha Pavlovic
PF Tiago Splitter
C Dirk
Lots of offense on that team.

Pfft remember, it took MJ 6 or so years to win an NBA finals. It took Hakeem 9 years. Dirk still has plenty of time. Plus, this year the team was simply pulled out from underneath him and turned into something he's not.

The Spurs of this year are as good as any team back then, and Jordan had a better team around him that was more suited to him.
And, that's the 80's. What about Hakeem in the 90's? Bottom line is, you're way to quick to judge a player.

No big man will dominate until Shaq retires. You can be 12 feet tall, it won't matter, you can't overpower Shaq consistently, or at least I haven't seen it. He is just so much stronger than all these other big men who are built like toothpicks, they don't stand a chance.
