So do you guys think it's a good idea to make a movie based on a game? If so what games would you like to see made into movies. I think it's a fine idea as long as the movie is done well and sticks RELATIVELY close to the game. One example of how NOT to do a game based movie is House of the Dead.
I think bassically all the Silent Hill series would make great movies if done right. I would say Halo as well, but thats a clasic and it wouldn't come out right as a movie unless someone who knew about the game spent a lot of time nit-picking all the little details, also they'd have to go steep with the effects, but that's not really a problem nowadays.

Depends on what movie it is. If the movie is about Finding some fish named retard (nemo), no but if it takes place in a sin city where all the players play, then yes.

Resident Evil wasn't so great, but I think Silent Hill would have a chance of being good if it had the right director.
I think the MGS series would make an awesome movie.

final fanatsy is another way of how not to do it, And Metal Gear solid would make a very good movie as allofmeoliveme stated.

I can't think of many games that would have big screen potential.
All of the military games have potential, but they'd probably end up being extremely generic and cheesy.
The only game/movie combo I really enjoyed was Goldeneye. The game was modeled after the movie in that case. That's also the only scenario where the game was much better than the movie.

123. The Silent Hill plot is so deep and philosophical and can conceivably make a good movie. MGS, however, would be a bit difficult. The gaming interface, especially for the first one, contributed a lot to how the plot developed. Watching a movie in which Solid just sits there and talks on CODEC for half the entire reel would be a bit cheesy.
Man did I love MGS. Too bad the sequels were **** plotwise.
EDIT:
It crossed my mind that Vagrant Story would be a really good game to adapt into a movie. It's quality material for an epic.

Snake Eater was great, plot was pretty good too.
Silent Hill looks like it has the best chance to be better than all of the other transitions.

final fanatsy is another way of how not to do it,
that is because it had no reference to any of the final fantasy games. it just had 'final fantasy' in the title.

I thought the Resi Evil movies were ok for mindless action.
Apparantly John Woo has the rights to make a Metroid movie. I just hope they do it justice.
Does anyone remember the Super Mario Bros. movie?

Street Fighter was the greatest, most entertaining piece of movie cheese.
Super Mario Bros. was another piece of great cheese.
Trivia: Street Fighter was Raul Julia's (M Bison) final movie, as he died shortly after it was finished.

that would be sick. I say give the screenplay to Tarentino, special effects to woo and find some new upcoming grungy actors, lots of blood, drug-use and you've got yourself a classic.
maxpayne made me feel like I was playing a movie, I loved the comic-book transactions, good stuff.

worst movie based on a game: house of the dead
they actually show footage of the game during action sequences, and even do it to scare you. you know how they heighten the drama by playing spooky music that slowly gets more intense, and you just KNOW something legitimately scary is about to happen... well it does that, but instead WHAM! it takes you to the game, and then you crack up at how amateur it is
a Max Payne movie would be cool... but would be too similiar to the Punisher

The Godfather game looks quite good. I think there are some videos of it on IGN.
