Hmm..I thought someone had told me it was one Hatebreeder. Oh well, regardless of not having Deadnight Warrior I will still probably go with Hatebreeder, I've heard great things about it.

Go for Something Wild after if you have enough cash.

That's the one with Deadnight Warrior on, AND Lake Bodom. :naughty: :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

Unfortunately at my young age money is hard to come by. I'll see if I can manage to scrownge up some more before tomorrow afternoon so I can get both. I don't think COB's CDs are very expensive 'round my parts so this could be an accomplishable goal.

You should get Follow The Reaper, then SW, then Hatebreeder. They're all excellent but that's the order of greatness.

Something wild is great!! Red light in my eyes pt.1 and pt.2 are just

tbh. recently i started to prefer the newer CoB instead of the old albums, so my suggestion goes with Hate Crew Deathroll.

btw. check out this website for album-information:
http://metalstorm.ee/bands/discography.php?band_id=72&bandname=Children+Of+Bodom

ps.: i woke up right now, and took a first listen to racer x - technical difficulties (the album); it blew me totally away!! Phallic Tractor... my fukking god!! PG is amazing

I say newer CoB for guitar playing. Older for listening.

There's nothing that can beat FTR. SW owns Hatebreeder.

Lets compare!
Hatebreeder Vs Something Wild- Children Of Bodom

Track: 1
Warheart > Deadnight Warrior
Track 2
Silent Night, Bodom Night > > > In The Shadows
Track 3
Red Light In My Eyes prt 1 > Hatebreeder
Track 4
Red Light In My Eyes prt 2 > Bed Of Razors(aka a total dissection ripoff, but both songs slay, but ripping Dissection off takes away many points of this track since Alexi didn't write the lead)
Track 5
Lake Bodom > > > Towards Dead End
Track 6
The Nail < Black Widow
Track 7
TLAoD > Wraith Within
Track 8
Silent Scream Cover > CoB (maybe their worst song)
Track 9
Downfall is alright. It's never done anything for me and it's ehh live.

It appears a 3 song edge for SW.

i try my best, don't wanna suck :)

just played it at 170... 8th notes, its not hard, but i'm not sure if i'm playing 100% in time, ... i just try to "feel" the speed" insted of listen to every click, but i think it works...

MRDuCran
09-12-2006, 04:34 PM
Well you should record yourself now and listen back, that way you'll be able to hear every single thing you do. I'm not saying upload it but use it for your own personal improvement, the recording won't lie.

I didn't buy a Gilbert book, I work these licks out myself.

repcak
09-12-2006, 04:53 PM
i do this all the time. it surprise me how the sound can be different only by playing (!) different.... the sound can be so changed only by the art of picking and left hand... its amazing.

MRDuCran
09-12-2006, 05:01 PM
Yeah, that's one of the things that beginner guitarists dont' think about which = band tone even if they have expensive equipment. A kid that's been playing a year won't sound like Steve Vai if they played on his guitar, through his effects and into his amp.

It's not just guitarists either, drummers too, for example.

repcak
09-12-2006, 05:06 PM
i always heard ppl talkin about it, but i never REALLY believed it, until now when i change my picking technique a little bit, pick hard, softer, touch the fretboard a little different, etc.
i record my playing since i'm in vienna, and since i try really to be perfect... you hear every single mistake... it pushes me to play better. :D

Meh, "HCDR" is pretty damn easy. Just a regular thrashy song. Definitely not one of their most technical.

Having the same picks won't make you able to play Children of Bodom songs...

But if you're finding regular Jazz III's too small, do what I did and buy some Jazz III XL's, same as a regular J3, but same size as a regular pick.

I didn't mean every note of the album is stupid simple.
I just meant AYDY & HCDR aren't as difficult as SW/FTR/HB.

I doubt I could play Lake Bodom or Kissing The Shadows well.

However, when I practice: I can play AYDY with great ease(most of it) and much of Bodom Beach Terror, which is a bit harder.

btw. @ Mitch, your Mask Of Sanity GP sounds quick good, except that lead riff. That seems more correct in a tab I learned it with ages ago.

Buying picks cause others use them is missing the point, different people have different fingers and different technique, thats why peoples picks differ.

repcak
09-13-2006, 10:08 AM
i always changed and tried out different picks. i started with nylon 0.88, then moved to plastic picks (dunlop) 0.7 and 0.88; for the longest time i played on 0.88 and 1.00mm, recently i moved to 1.14 and since yesterday 1.5mm.
tbh i never thought it will be comfortable to play on such thick picks like 1.5, but i like it... you have more control over the strings, can pick faster and more exact. meanwhile its nearly impossible for me to play on 0.88! the lowest i still can play is 1.00.

Depends if you mic up. If you use a digital camera or mic up your amp and don't actually have the volume that loud, you'd be able to hear the pick hitting the string yeah but if you're going line in or something then you won't be able to hear the pick hitting the string, but you'll hear pick attack.

Roope is playing 10yrs longer than alexi so he IS better than alexi... both are my guitar heros.

and i too only use the bridge... at my old ibanez when i had two single-coils i sometimes used it, but when you have two humbuckers the difference is not that big, so i stay at my bridge-pickup.

to my record: yesterday my recording software or hardware or windows, whatever crashed... maybe its the soundcard, maybe not... i couldn't record. meanwhile i can, but i still have problems, so i still haven't recorded it. yesterday i played it at 180 (cause when you can play something fast, its easier when you record it slower) - so that was the plan... but when i tried to record it at 170 it sounded horrible, too sloppy. whatever, i have to start at 160 again.
and today i was the whole day outside... make a practical experience at the clean clothes campagne in austria, and if you're interested, on one of our radio stations website there is a little article about it - its quite interesting:

what was wrong with the sweeping?

The tab shows:

E----15-19-15-----------14-17-14-17----
B-17----------17------15----------------
G----------------16-14------------------

Alexi plays:

E-------15-19-15---------14-17-14-17----
B----17----------17----15----------------
G-16----------------14-------------------

It might not look like much but each note is an 8th triplet and the 2nd option is a hell of a lot easier because of the position of the highest note (B), also makes the picking alot easier.

Yeah, living in NC and the closest place was Atlanta. That's so lame. No one ever comes here.

Really? I mean our biggest city is probally not even close to as big as atlanta  that how insignificant we are. I was happy when Gigantour came to maine so when Gigantour 2 rolled around I was like "well Mustaine won't forget us again" but then I went to the site....Bastard....

cause when zombies ate your neighbours, the possibility that they bite you as well is high... and when you got bitten, you're a zombie too, undead.

The reason why they didn't come back is because they do that every night. :)

They ate my neighbours, not me, I typed the username, hence i'm not a zombie, hence i'm not undead.

And was undead meant to be some kind of derogative remark cause if it were, then wtf.

my pc is now 6yrs old and since last year the HD crashed, the cpu-cooler, something else i don't remember and now i have problems with my soundcard ... sometimes i can't record, or sometimes the sound of movies, GP, etc. doesn't work and so on and i have to reboot my pc.
... the best thing would be to get a notebook, but most notebooks don't have a line-in (as what i've heard) and the second thing is that i wanted to buy a new amp next, with the money i own. :upset:
and i still don't have a driver license... can someone donate me some ... 1000-2000€ ? :(

Alexi told fans during a recent COB show in America he doesn't like headlining. I met his (pregnant) sister backstage. She's really nice. He didn't talk too us. Probably still too shy about his braces

I have the demo and their full length release, it's actually quite fun to listen to, once you've got used to the really annoying vocals that is.

Pretty much. I wouldn't think about asking people if I wanted to learn a song though, if I liked the sound of it, then I would.

I learnt Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee earlier today so I'll practise that a bit in the next few days and record it.

MRDuCran

Children of Bodom only play in the UK on these dates:

30.10.2006 (UK) CARDIFF / Arena
01.11.2006 (UK) BIRMINGHAM / NEC
03.11.2006 (UK) MACNHESTER / Arena
19.11.2006 (UK) LONDON / Brixton Academy
20.11.2006 (UK) LONDON / Brixton Academy

That's the Unholy Alliance dates when they'll be touring with Slayer, Lamb of God etc.

I learnt the Hate Me solo too, and yeah, it's tough. :(

Yeah I can. I mess up sometimes though but that's only because I forget where to go since I only spent 5 minutes learning it yesterday.

Erm, you do know he uses delay don't you??

He's not playing 16th notes at 180bpm, he plays 8th notes.

I don't think he's going to record it tbf.

After I got this new Test Drive game for my 360, i found out they have Vivaldi's 4 seasons : Summer on the sound track. Obviously, that made me want to learn Alexi's guitar part even more so.

I wish i could find someone to learn this with me. Unfortunately, I have no way of recording my Krank at this time :upset:
