Yeah I've been busy with TEH RECORDING, but then again the last time you saw it was a few months ago amirite.
I'm not in a band because I'm too lazy to go out and arrange it. And yeah, that "kSe loving core group" want to start band in the style of Arch Enemy but for one, the guitarist isn't that great, and there's no way any drummer we know could pull that stuff off. I've got a few things written but they wouldn't be able to play those either.

btw. i'm 20 and will get 21 in november.
hm... i started when i was 17 1/2 but it was an acoustic guitar and after one year i was only able to play "knocking on heavens door". with 18 (short before my graduation from school) i bought my ibanez (my first electric) and started to play. but i made long breaks like a half year or something like that when i haven't played guitar for over 6months... i was 19.
i take guitar serious since 2006, so since a half year. well.... you have 2 1/2 ... i have maybe 1 - 1 1/2 yrs of serious playing guitar.

He's ok. I have that video of him doing Young Guitar and I don't like his vibrato and I hate his tone. He's definately a good player technically but I'm not fond of his choice of licks/notes. I can't really get into Sonata Arctica either...

hey mitch, i just tried to record some stuff, but the record sound so muddy;
my guitar is plugged directly to my soundcard through my digitech rp-80 and i tried Kristal and cakewalk9, maybe i should try another program? audio logic? cooleditpro?
edit: ok, i turned down the volume and its ok... and it's not running through my amp, so therefore i hear a different sound... hm... thats bad - how should i find a good sound to record when i can't hear it through my amp... my god. i hate recording :p
MRDuCran
09-01-2006, 06:02 PM
Erm, well it's hard to find a solution when I can't actually see or touch anything but you might just have your digitech rp-80 set too loud. You could try turning down the master volume or the gain or something or try playing with the EQ, plugging it into your computer could increase the bass or something like that so just experiement.
If that doesn't work, you could try actually plugging the wire into a different port in the back of your computer. You should have mic and line in, both have different effects so try both. Also, on my comptuer, there's a gain boost on the mic input so it might be set on that.
Of course, I have no idea what's wrong so just try all of them and see what happens, they're all solutions I try if something's not right.
Recording program won't make a difference, all it does is record what it hears/you play.

Nah man, that's really nothing compared to some others. Like the obvious one, Kissing the Shadows. Others that are a bitch to play are Warheart, We're Not Gonna Fall, Downfall, Hate Me etc. I always thought Follow the Reaper was quite simple for him.
On a side note, I ****ing figured out how to get my Korg PX4 to get the right delay sound so I can do the echo thing that Yngwie Malmsteen does, sounds brilliant. I'm going to learn that Buckethead song that uses it.

I like Necrophagist's songs though. I think the notion that people have to get rid of is that if a band is technical, it's all they can do and that makes them bad songwriters. Well, if I were to listen to an ambient band, I wouldn't be thinking, "WTF these guys can't play their instruments for beans", that's their style, those are the types of songs they write.
And if you get bored of it, try not listening to them all the time or something. I get bored of any band if I listen to them for a really long time.. ugh, I'm clearly not expressing what I really mean here. But if you think Necrophagist are boring, take an objective view of Bodom, people. Come on now.
I never really like Dragonforce. It seems like they just decided they were going to be a standard power metal band and achieved their goal.

No, they're just easier to get into because of the melodies. It's just they're right there in your face whereas you pretty much have to be into the more brutal side of metal to properly enjoy Necophaigist, imo.
As I've said, I like a few riffs/solos hear and there and I love his voice but I just can't get properly into them.

Dean's been playing for 2 years, ok... first thing when I joined the band, he said "Don't write anything too hard for me to play".
He also recorded ALL of my rhythm parts on the 7-song EP...all wrong, as well.
"Cover My Eyes" is pretty much the only WAT song I've written completely, and I've even toned THAT song down because I don't want any bitching about "oh it's too hard", which is really stupid, yeah, but you have no idea how much Dean sucks and doesn't want to improve.

TEB has horrid live mixing. They played very well when I saw them, but their mixing was just a wall of sound.
I didn't mean in terms of riff rip offs or w/e. The sound just brought that too mind and sounded like something off a TEB record. That's how it struck me, that's all I can say. I like TEB, btw. NP actually.

I didn't start a band with him, I joined said band because for the time being, that band was the only band that didn't want to play breakdowns/wank chords 24/7 and I thought maybe I could help progress said lackluster skills. And yes, he was holding back what we were capable of. Immensely.
Why did he do your parts? btw. Define wrong?
Because he's a douche.
and by wrong, I mean he played my parts that I wrote extremely wrong. I heard the recordings and I said "dude you're playign that wrong, if you're going to play my parts, at least play them RIGHT or I'll re-record them myself" (since I couldn't really bitch because it's Dean's band he wants to be Dave Mustaine blablabla)...and he said "OK, I'll re-record it". Well when it came down to that time, he just said "oh well we'll keep what we have".
Douchebaggery.
I don't know which song I heard, it was the one on myspace. How hard is your stuff to play, or is it a combo of him sucking and it being more than basic?
That's the song. And the stuff I write...I wouldn't say it is hard because I'm used to playing, I've been playing just about 7 years so some things come natural to me when writing. But to an intermediate, it may provide a challenge, because I usually write more "complex" metal, not dumbed down 80's buttrock.
If you've got tunes and one, myspace linkage?
I have some guitar tracks laid down on my friend's Pandora 4-track just so I can remember it and give it to the rest of the guys to look at and think over, but we haven't got anything recorded YET. Maybe in the next few months.

I'll admit, I love CGCFAD. Sometimes I'll go C# but I hate that tuning. That's a brutal tuning btw. (C#).

What's wrong with Drop C? What makes it boring? I'd say it can limit your options, but at the same time, it'll have advantages over a standard tuning.

I just get bored with writing in said tunings easily. I don't know, I guess Drop D/C/Z/X#flat whatever just represents ultra laziness to me. Which is ironic since im ultra lazy but you know what I mean.

You can play,
C3
G3
D1
Or
C3
G3
C3
The latter sounds heavier, that's about it.

I don't care muc for drop tunings either, anymore. For some reason it just seems...cheap, in a way. I love a good metal tuning, but I'd much rather play in a variation of standard.

I don't mind drop tunings, but it depends on the band. Slayer, for example, is best in Eb but Carcass sounds great in low tunings.
Toaster
09-04-2006, 10:26 AM
I don't really care either way. I never think to myself, wow this band would sound way better with a lower/higher tuning. Unless they used to tune lower/higher, and sounded better.

I think they should go back to D standard rather than drop C though. They have a tendency to chug in drop C.

@ Toaster: they're just as capable of chugging in D as they are in drop C. The tuning fits the sound they want. I don't think the tuning dictates what they play; more like the other way around.

But then again, who doesn't?
Even when I pick up a guitar in "drop..." I just chug chug chug, and how many bads are there that do that in Drop C nowadays...
That's my reason for not liking drop tunings as much. I write alot of my songs in C# or D standard.

Yeah you're right, but when they played in D they didn't chug. Which leads me to think that Alexi one day said "hey guyz lets do some chuggin in c", dropped his guitar down to C, and started writing chug-a-lug songs. :p
I liked their songs more in D.

hah well, I'm the same way of course, because riffing in neck position just sounds so...I don't know, what's the word I'm looking for...it's just too light a tone for heavy riffing. But then again you can't really get TOO good a clean tone when soloing with the pickup in bridge position.
