I've always called it D Standard instead of a Whole Step Down because I know people understand it. I never really knew if it was any realy official term or anything.

I know SNBN also but I've never really learnt it prefectly note for note because it's one of those songs that everyone likes, even if they're not into the band. The exact reason it took me so long to learn Kissing the Shadows, the only reason I did was because everyone claimed it was hard.

I know you're only a beginner so you could try Downfall.

It was the piano bit in the middle playing the minor chords that got me into that song because I only had a powertab but loved that section so I went and downloaded the song.

Kissing the Shadows is quite easy.

Want to learn a good HCDR song with a great balance between riffs and lead stuff. What would you suggest?

Kissing the Shadows is easy for me and you too I'm guessing by judging by every recording I've heard then no, not really.

For the second part, I'd probably have to say Triple Corpse Hammerblow.

It has quite a few rhythm sections in different keys, the main lead riff is pretty tricky and the arrangment is pretty crazy for a Bodom song.

Shadows
08-13-2006, 02:41 PM
Cool, I have most of the tougher lead parts tabbed out in a Young Guitar magazine already. I was thinking that and maybe LBRH.

MRDuCran
08-13-2006, 02:43 PM
Maybe you could tab 'em out on powertab or something...:naughty:

LBRH would also be acceptable yeah but I thought you already learnt that ages ago.

Shadows
08-13-2006, 02:46 PM
Parts of it, but not all. Everytime I tried to start I got sidetracked with school or something. It's about time I really get my sh*t together and learned some bitchin' Bodom songs.

Perhaps I will tab them out. :naughty: It has riffs/licks from TCH, LBRH, Bodom Beach Terror, and Chokehold.

MRDuCran
08-13-2006, 02:51 PM
Oh wait, I might have it actually...you might as well not worry. It's not important, I just like seeing other interpretations of stuff but Japanese tab is pretty much always wrong, fingering wise.

My problem is always getting the speed when practising, I always try to stay accurate and at a tempo I'm comfortable with but learning stuff is a doddle to me, always has been.

i just came back from my Morbid Angel concert... they were 5times better live than i thought. amazing!

3support bands from vienne. 8 guitarist and 8 different playing techniques. the 3rd bands guitarist used an arm technique i thought is the worst a guitar player can do, but it works for him. even the MA guitarist used a left and right hand technique which would hurt my hand... i don't know why other can play that way and i cannot... well this sucks.

123 for Bodom Beach Terror, it's fun and snappy

Chokehold is pretty fun, but I've never stuck with it. That post intro chord riff is great to play.

edit: as for TCHB, It's not very hard. Just takes a bit of practice on the main riff and you're set.

MAZE OF TORMENT (my fav song by them).

after the song they asked how many of us does know "Altars of Madness" and said, that they will play a hell lot songs from it! so you can imagine the rest of the stetlist

some good 50% of their songs were taken from Altars of Madness... it was a wonderful setlist.

Thinking something is better because of the production is ridiculous.

Especially when you consider the gap between MA's first album and CoB's.

I've only heard Altars of Madness, so only based on that I'd say I prefer Children of Bodom. I may not have given it that one listen yet though you know. There's always that one listen that strikes a note with your ears that gets you obsessed.

When it comes to production, aside from AYDY, they are both very unspectacular.

MRDuCran

Thinking something is better because of the production is ridiculous.

Especially when you consider the gap between MA's first album and CoB's.

Let me re-phrase what I said.

"I don't recall actually saying that, but it is what I think."

That didn't mean I think CoB are better than MA because of the production, the second half was implying that I do like CoB more than MA regardless of production. The first half saying I don't think that production makes the music any better, I just enjoy Cob's more.

I did like his vocals moreso on FTR, however I think his newer vocals fit the newer style of songs. I don;t think I would like FTR vocals with the AYDY vocals.

My opinion on the new Lamb of God is going back and forth. The music is a step forward even though the riffs are slightly more boring then usual. Randy's voice also sucks. Overall it's pretty good, though.

MegaMustaine
08-20-2006, 05:04 PM
I hate it. There's nothing that sticks out. Every song has a cool element or two, but is subsequently ruined by something lame and boring. They sound like another generic band.

I liked ashes so much, because the guitar and overall feel was so unique. This just seems repetative, and the guitar is lame. The drums don't seem that great, but I've only briefly listneed 1 or 2 times through.

Either way, I'm definately not going to listen to it. I'd much rather listen to Ashes stuff that I've heard 500 times over then listen to music that doesn't seem as unique or stands out as much.

Shadows
08-20-2006, 05:07 PM
Their earlier stuff was good because of the heavy and catchy thrashy groove riffs, but they've completely gotten rid of those. That's what really bothers me about the new album. It's good in other ways, but not in the ways that I usually think of when I think Lamb of God. It's very atmospheric though - I like that.

MegaMustaine
08-20-2006, 05:10 PM
I never really liked their early stuff, so maybe thats why I don't like the new. The early just seemed bland and boring, an so does this.

Shadows

I meant early as in As the Palaces Burn and Ashes of the Wake. New American Gospel has to be one of the worst albums in the world.

AA-12

Not really, considering most of Janne's main melodies are doubled in unison by a guitar which = hard. That's why I want to transcribe some.

They hate the Needled 24/7 video, the thing with all that circus crap wasn't their idea.

Some sources say it will be on the DVD, some say it won't, only time will tell.

Ha, the theme of that video is like a less violent, less complicated Hostel, in a way. The cop gets pwned.

It's not too bad of a video, but I could do without the text parts and the facial expressions of Mr. Laiho.

I never get videos, I just watch them to see the band play.

The name is terrible. haha. Seriously. Couldn't they pick a better name?

^)_^

The setlist is the same as the AYDY tour I went to last fall. :) The guitar/keyboard dual better be on there.

They better be, it's a REAL dvd.

I fear it's going to be a better produced Nosturi and nothing ultra new.

That's what I think too. It's the same year, same setlist, they're touring the same album, they're probably still wearing the same clothes.

It'll be the backstage stuff that's most interesting.

They all drink craploads and Alexi only really swears alot on stage, but then again tonnes of metal singers do to make them look tough, it's just one of thethings to do.

"Let me see all your ****ing hands in the air" etc

How is that owned?

It's true, it's hard to find a metal band where the singer doesn't swear on stage.

meh... I seriously want to quit guitar. I don't enjoy normal playing. bodom beach terror aydy blood and thunder sixpounder and such I want to play harder stuff since the easier stuff is getting boring. so necrophagist is going to take years to play.

I can play it solid(intro) sometimes. the next try is just terrible and a total mess. most are inbetween.

The rhythms for AYDY and Bodom Beach Terror aren't exactly difficult though, try Lake Bodom, SNBD, Needled 24/7, which to play correctly, are kinda difficult because of the rhythm, as opposed to how many strings you have to skip...
