I get more upset when I see that he's created another account. I kinda found some of the threads he made in Guitar earleir pretty amusing though.
One was "ducarn" or something. Telling me I act like I'm god but have no recordings to back it up. My "I pwn you n00b" reply was enough to make him start one with the content:
"you might pwn me now but i can pwn u in a week you **** blah blah"

Songs like Follow the Reaper, Warheart, Hatebreeder, Everytime I Die, Needled 24/7 would all be easy if you took the leads away, for example.

They re-recorded so it's a slighty different tone and there's 2 different guitar solos.
Well, the first little widdle bit and then the proper solo later on.

Definatly...so melodic...
LostChild
08-07-2006, 06:58 AM
Yeah, they really evolved melodically between Hatebreeder and that one. I actually found it pretty difficult to get into Hatebreeder because my first CoB album was Follow The Reaper and I was expecting more melody.
MRDuCran
08-07-2006, 08:17 AM
Err Hatebreeder is very melodic.
tehnub
08-07-2006, 08:18 AM
I know, what gives...
COB have never done a heavy album before, it's always been that mix of hard riffing and keyboard melody, occasionally doubled up on guitar
MRDuCran
08-07-2006, 08:57 AM
Yeah they're always very melodic but I think Hate Crew Deathroll and Are You Dead Yet are quite heavy. I'd say HCDR sounds heavier because of the tone, I think they used different mics and mixing techniques and AYDY is downtuned a bit more so that helps.
tehnub
08-07-2006, 08:59 AM
AYDY could have been amazing, if the vocals had been a bit fuller...something just seems lacking with half of the tracks or so...that's got nothing to do with the instruments, though
I think they released it at the wrong time, too...didn't have much of an impact
In Your Face is a great song though, back to basics
MRDuCran
08-07-2006, 09:05 AM
I think the instruments do have something to do with it. Songs like Next In Line sound a bit empty with just the bass in the verse and songs like AYDY sound way too Killswitch like, or Trivium etc by his choice of chords.
Agreed about In Your Face though, no doubtedly my favourite song on the entire album, first song I heard off of it too.

Jaxom_of_the_Lambs
08-07-2006, 09:12 AM
I heard some of HCDR, and I think AYDY is similar, but I don't like that style as much. It seems to be less melodic and just more metal. Not that I don't like that, it's just not what I want when I'm thinking "Bodom!"
MRDuCran
08-07-2006, 09:12 AM
Yeah exactly. It's weird how if you give someone a guitar in drop C, they'll instantly play the open 4,5,6 strings and just "chug" away. Give someone a guitar in standard type tuning and they'll probably mess about in the pentatonic scale in A or E.
But I've noticed I do it too and also play those same chords when I'm in a drop tuning. I really like the way he created the Living Dead Beat riff though, that's pretty tricky but the rest aren't the same style as their previous releases. I think if they tune back up to D, there next album will sound a tad better.

I whole heartedly disagree. He has some of the most mind blowing solos imo. Things that aren't bitchingly fast or hard, but the note chocie is spot on. Other times they are bitchingly fast and still sound good.
He's my biggest inspiration for writing and tone and comes in 2nd for for playing.

I believe now is upon the time in which I begin to undertake the task of learning my first Children of Bodom song. I chose Bed of Razors. I chose with little regard to skill level / favoritism. Easiest CoB would be something off of Are you dead yet?. The other stuff is pretty difficult. I have been playing for 6 years and a few passages still give me a hard time.

The only song I tried to leard off that album was the title track, which is fairly easy. I think If you want peace prepare for war may be slightly more difficult. I'll see if I can find the tab on my computer.

The rhythm is easy for me. The leads I'd need to work on.
The easiest rhythm would be Everytime I Die imo, or something off Something Wild. AYDY has a few tricky riffs and the solos are just as hard as always.
Without being too harsh, if you've only been playing 1 year, you have no chance.

I looked through it and it has some tricky parts, but nothing you cant get down with some practice. It seems fairly straight foward, but I have been playing for about 6 years. Just take it slowly and dont expect to play it perfectly at first and you shoudl do fine.
I find that by practicing difficult songs, you will become a better player much faster.

Exactly. The leads and solos are ****ing hard in all of their albums - the only difference is that AYDY has fewer of them. But they've filled in the gaps by adding their most complex rhythm parts ever, so it's definitely their toughest stuff.

The main riff to Living Dead Beat is tricky. The verse to In Your Face is too. Trashed, Lost and Strungout is pretty simple, as is Are You Dead Yet. The quick riff in If You Want Peace, Prepare for War is tough to get up to speed perfectly.
I'd say their hardest stuff was on Hate Crew Deathroll though.

I've seriously lost so much passion with guitar. I only am playing every other day for a couple hours these days. My skill is greatly improved and always developing, but there's just no passion. I play standing up 99% again , which is fun and good practice. Not hard, but harder than sitting. I used to headbang, not ultra wild, but good headbanging. Now, I'll just kinda "watch myself play w/e". It's like "awesome, I can play X Y & Z well" or "*smile* /just nailed w/e run/riff/solo"

I've been getting more into guitar lately. I used to play very regularly, but a few months ago it became a once every few weeks thing, then gradually once every couple of days, and now it's once a day, and I'm actually taking it seriously instead of just trying to pass the time.
I'm currently working on making something out of fragments of songs I wrote a couple of years ago (improvising the parts I forgot and maybe throwing in a tiny bit of new material) and trying to learn Battery by Metallica, and maybe Bed of Razors by Children of Bodom.

Yeah, that's exactly how I am these days, except with even less playing time. I just have no passion to become any better at guitar, or learn anything new with it. I don't practice at all anymore, the only time I ever play is when I'm writing and recording. The only passion I have is to actually make music, and not to play it any longer. The only instruments I'm playing fairly regularly anymore are drums and keyboards. Keyboards because I'm still trying to become great at it, and drums because they are just fun to mess around with.
