When I said wrong, I moreso meant wrong in a sense that it just wasn't a good thing to say in a certain situation, because so many people reacted negatively. I didn't mean wrong as in it's definately incorrect. It's something I can respect but don't personally agree with.

It's hard to tell from pictures, but as far as I can tell your trem and nut are fine. If the neck alignment annoys you enough to where you think it's worth fixing, all you have to do is take out the four big screws that bolt the neck to the body and shift the neck a bit to where you like. Do you follow? Explaining these things can be tough online, especially with someone whose native language isn't English. :)

My ESP owns every Ibanez I've ever played. It sounds and feels amazing. What have you heard bad about them?
Yes, Marc Rizzo > Petrucci.
This album isn't sloppy in the least. He's FAR MORE DIVERSE, complex and fast at times.

I was only going by looks. Obviously I can't judge on the playability of it because I haven't played it but RG's and Alexi's RV are the only guitars I'd consider at this moment in time. And considering the 24th fret is hard to hit, I wouldn't get one. I was looking at an ESP M-II, they're pretty hot.
And I wasn't talking about how diverse each player is because I know Petrucci plays the same alot and I'm not fond of his solo work but in terms of technique, he wins. And again, I can't judge Rizzo's album because I haven't heard it but he was very sloppy on that video.
I know you'll hate this but there's a video of Matt Heavy from Total Guitar showing this picking exercise and he plays it very fast, but it sounded like crap but I wouldn't say he was better than Gilbert, Petrucci etc because he's simply not.

I saw one of Corey and it wasn't bad. Far from great though. If you wanna talk about bad demo videos, try Mick from slipknot. He acts all great and struggles to do basic things. lollooolllooll omgz lol!
The album isn't sloppy at all. It's beautifully done. Come on, when I of all people start enjoying a mostly flameco/spanish/jazzy album. That's a sign it's good.
It's not hard to hit at all. The bridge is amazing. Playing sitting or standing up. I can play perfectly standing up, as with many guitars it's a challenge, due to bad design.

I've seen a Mick Thompson one too and it wasn't great.
Maybe you should stick his album in the Daily Upload so me can check it out. As I said, I have 2 of his solo songs on here they're really cool.
"It's not hard to hit at all" <- I was actually talking about Alexi's RV. He looks like he struggles to hit it and people who have them have said 23 & 24 are hard to get and I use the 24th fret quite alot so I'd get annoyed. But I haven't played one of those either so if I do, maybe I can decide then. There was supposed to be one in some guitar shop round the corner from where I saw Bodom and I was going to go play it before we went in but it wasn't there, which sucked.

That's why everyone uses those types of geetars. lol. and..... They do look "cool". That's true, he does tap it.
I've realized. I've gotten very good with string skipping, but I've realized two major weaks and the only real "weak" ones I have.
Tapping & Sweeping. I've decided I won't even learn sweeps. tbh. Many times they really annoy me these days in music, so I don't like most +++ they are hard as hell to learn. So why spend all the time learning something I don't like in the first place?
Tapping..... Bad... I just use my finger span (long) and tight echoing alt picking or w/e. Nothing I play has any tapping, that I can think of.
MRDuCran
07-29-2006, 06:57 AM
Yeah I don't use tapping much either, if I do, it's in the same style as Alexi. None of that crazy Dragonforce style tapping or Michael Romeo etc.
Sweep picking I like but I suck at it now, I haven't played guitar properly in a week and haven't really focused on anything since I started college 2 years ago. It sucks 'cause now I'm forced to get a full time job and then I'll have even less time, even if I wanted to practise.

Nah. They didn't click with me. I liked that Deconstruction song though. Loomis is great, but I can't get into that sound.
Galder of DB does some nice tapping if you'd believe it on a couple tracks. Not Romeo or Li like, but good.
The thing I see about my playing is I don't play with heart anymore. Almost everything is like "sit back and watch myself". I mean. I play w/e well, right and it's well played...but it's more like just watching myself. I can't explain it.

ESP: the only ESP guitars i like are the above 1500€ - the customs and the M-II, etc.
Ibanez: only the RG-models and the prestige ones
Jackson: ... hm... everyone? the MGs, Dinky, RR, most of the Jackson are beautiful.
today its the second time i read that sweeping is a very hard technique to learn... i think i rushed myself to much. i always thought: that can't be that hard. well i practise/play sweeps every day... i'm getting better.

I have no idea what that pedal is or how it sounds but Alexi has his Mids pretty high, maybe about 6-8. His Treble about 7-9 and his Bass at something like 3-6. HDCR and AYDY are a bit bassier so it depends what you're going for. Don't forget his equipment is a billion times better than yours so don't expect it to sound perfect.

i just played some sweep-exercises by troy stetina and came with this idea, which sounds great (imo).
--------9-12p9
----11----------11
-12----------------12
thats the way troy stetina plays it.
my way:
---------9-12p11p9
-----11----------------11
-12------------------------12
the 12p11p9 you do as triplets so you're in the same speed as above.
its an e diminished 7th arpeggio and it shouldn't be allowed to play the 11th fret on the high e-string, but 1) it sounds great 2) if you do it fast (as a triplet) you don't hear what note is being played... or am i wrong?

Well. I've got a few ideas.
1. Mitch, our hater in chief of ESP guitars plays and loves a BC Rich. (non american made)
I've only played the one that I have, which is very nice, but I've never heard any compliants about them.
Talking to the guitar tech, he said he sees far less problems with them than Jackson's or Ibanez.
Most Ibanez are nice, but not great. Most Jackson feel and sound dirty. IMO, Shecters aren't worth talking about, since they're below all these.
There are exceptions to everything, but in general that's what I've played and learned.

My Jackson is the second sexiest type of guitar I've ever played, behind a PRS Custon 22...but my Jackson was 1/3 of the price.

so its allowed - but why? is it a passing note, or has it to be a part of the scale i play in? but then it won't be an arpeggio - it would be a only a sweep using a scale.
/me not the best in theory, but try hard to be :p
MRDuCran
07-30-2006, 05:27 AM
Why is it allowed? Mainly because it's music and you can do what you want. You should think of theory as a guideline and not strict rules otherwise you'll turn out like me. I can't help but see scales not everytime I try to improvise, write riffs solos etc. You should maybe base a solo off of a scale judging by the key but let your ears decide whether a note is acceptable.
"or has it to be a part of the scale i play in? but then it won't be an arpeggio - it would be a only a sweep using a scale."
Also, don't think just because it's 4 notes that it's not an arpeggio, think of a 7th arpeggio.
But in this case yeah it is an arpeggio with an extra note which makes it seem like a scale, but as you said, you should see it as a passing note.
hhahahahaha not really. She might be shorter, but!!!! I'm a sloth. So in a way, she's got an advantage!

bsbs
B = Bass drum
s = Snare drum
If you've got the snare drum on the a + e of a beat it sounds so out of place to my ears.

Decapitated are firm users of the quality blast, Brodequin arent.

some of you may know it, mitch for sure. yesterday my wrist hurt me a lot and i suddenly don't know if my left hand position is right. i searched in google and on guitar sites to see pictures of other and their left hand position.
the forehand and arm should be straight but when i reach the low e-string i have to make a big angle (nearly 90°) - i'm insecure if this is normal and i fear to go on with playing and injure my wrist once again.
can any of you make some pictures of you left hand position and your angle when reaching the low/high e-string on the first fret? that would be nice...
i posted the topic in the guitar forum too
http://sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=485115
but i know that YOU know how to play guitar and therefor i ask you too.
MRDuCran
07-31-2006, 09:07 AM
If you can't reach the low E string, you shouldn't be stretching your wrist, you should lift your forearm so there's no strain.
There's no rule to say where you should have your forearm so you can have it sticking straight out (elbow nearly touching the body), elbow away from the body, forearm and bicep at 90°, forearm and bicep smaller than 90° etc etc.
If you asked me, I'd say as long as you can play the notes accurately without any strain on any part of your body, then it's correct technique...don't forget everyone's body structure is different. What may feel easy to you may be painful to John Petrucci etc. Just don't worry to much about sitting/standing in one position because you don't stay still when you stand, walk, play live etc.

i usually play with my forearm near my body, but now i paid attention to all my moves and when i play something above (on the first fret) i have to angle my wrist - but when my forearm is standing away of my body my wrist is straight with a little arch.
but i always played that way and hardly had injuries; maybe it was because i played too much on one day... now i take care of all my moves and it seems that i'm fine. my wrist is to 90% healed up.
through my wrist problem i got insecure at my technique... next time i have to ask my guitar teacher if i do it right.

I have my guitar in the position it would be if I was playing live. Playing as accurately live as I do at home is very important to me, I'm constantly striving for accuracy and consistency. I'd never hold my guitar in the classical position if I was standing up so I don't practise that way, sometimes I lift it but I've started to watch that because then the pick strikes the string at a different angle.

Bed of Razors is the easiest if you're looking for something a little easier without shred. I think the next easiest but still somewhat challenging would be Silent Night, Bodom Night. They have plenty of great solos, check out Warheart, Hate Me!, Angels Don't Kill, Lake Bodom, and if you really want a challenge Kissing the Shadows.

Thanks. Hah, the day I play Kissing the Shadows I'll be damned proud of myself.

I wouldn't say Silent Night, Bodom Night was the next easiest.
Punch Me I Bleed is pretty simple though except for the last bar. Same with Angels Don't Kill. Wrath Within. Everytime I Die, again except for the last bar.

You need to do what I call "resetting" the bridge. You start with the tuners level with enough space to go up or down. This is center. When you end up with the fine tuners all over the place, unlock the nut and "reset" the fine tuners back to the center, then tune it properly with the tuning pegs on the headstock. Then lock the nut again and it should be in tune and the fine tuners should be level again.

Yeah I certainly do.
It's not actually an Alexi sig since his guitar is based off of an ESP SV Standard:
http://images.google.co.uk/images?svnum=10&hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=ESP+SV+Standard)&spell=1
this is just a basic normal version. Obviously his has the modifications that he asked for etc.
It costs £380ish I think which is real cheap. It's only avaliable in Finland though so if I get the money together and still decide I want it, I'll have to try and find a way to get it over here.
I love the yellow pinstripes.

Yeah I was considering an RR but I can't find any that I like except for Roope's old one that was broken with the green pinstripes.
The one Randy Rhoades used is horrible imo.
This one is ok but looks cheap:

I'd prefer those if they had pinstripes though.
This is Roope's old guitar:

The next guitar I buy will more than likely be a Les Paul. As aa aspiring jazz guitarist, Jacksons don't really have the versatile tone to play jazz.
