Mitch has the right philosophy!

most guitarists forget that you make music through your four fingers on your left hand and your two fingers on the right hand, which hold the pick (abstract) - music is made by your finger movement, not about your equipment.

a friend is buying always the best equipment he can get. his first guitar cost over 1,300Euros and his first amp was a marshall 100watt.
my first guitar 250euro, first amp 200€ and i'm still the better guitarist :p

equipment doesn't make you better, practise does

What's so hard to grasp?

A better amp sounds better. Therefor more enjoyable to play.

A nicer guitar plays, feels and sounds better. Therefor more enjoyable to play.

Haha I know someone who's like your friend repcak. He's had 3 guitars, has a full keyboard and now has a full £500+ TAMA drum kit. I'm better than him on all 3 instruments and all my equipment probably comes under £1000.

Gtr 1 and amp - £100
Gtr 2 - £300
Gtr 3 - £300
KORG PX4 - £100

There, £900, and that's not a lot really.

I have excellent tone. A few days ago I cracked the secret to tone. lol. I lowered the gain just a bit, lowered the dept of the distortion and raised the treble a tad.


I hate playing with lots of gain.

I also hate scooping the mids. I think the mids add chunk to the sound.

I usually do
Bass: 5
Mids: 7
Treble: 9
Gain: 4

Alexi only has his gain on around 4-7 too, you can hear it on say that intro riff to "Downfall", or the single note in "Children of Decadence" or the "Children of Bodom" riff.

Also he has higher mids and lower bass. At least that's what it sound like on Follow the Reaper.

I think HCDR has a pretty good tone. I still don't like the fact that it's pretty much distortion all the time, it ruins the dynamics for me, even if it's the kind of band CoB is.

Sounds like a good plan. Your currency must be about the same as here in America, My DXMG was also about 470 on Musiciansfriend.

Well, just seems generally cooler. Not to mention our president isnt the sharpest tool in the shed, and we keep getting into other countries business. And about all of the middle east hates us :lol:

You sound like a thirteen year old psuedo-intellectual. First of all, the middle east doesn't hate the United States, certain groups do. Second of all, it shows that you're doing a great job of lumping the middle east together, which is a very sad trend in many Americans. Can I ask you a question? Do you think Middle Eastern people think Britain and France are the same?

If you don't like living in the U.S. that's fine, but atleast make a good arguement.

Not really, repcak is a cool guy and I've never gotten any bad vibes from him. The only time he seems down is if he's stressed about guitar playing.

Adam, that recording was pretty cool. I respect the fact you actually play the verse how it's supposed to be played as opposed to just strumming chords. I remember learning that part a few years back and it's much more fun to play that way.

I don't think that Metal Injection video was recent, I think it was from around 2003, but I'm not positive.

I don't think I played the verse 100% right, but pretty close. I played the same measure (or is it two?) over again till the last one which is different. In the actual one, I think it changes a little each measure. Either way its better than strumming chords. I'd like to get better at fingerpicking so I can incorporate it into my own songs.

Yeah the pinchs weren't, .09 gauge strings in drop A = floppy floppy floppy :p

I never practise that lead riff, I learnt it like a year ago and everytime I play it I just play it, so that explains that.

The glass prison, well that's easy.

That Lashed... recording was pretty good.

I'm not satisfied with the tone on any of them tbh. I either go line out through my KORG PX4 which is impossible to get a decent rhythm tone from that way. Or I go line out from that Line 6 thing or mic it up and the overall tones on those things are ghey.

the solo is so.... eargasm... i cant stop stunning about it ... its shredding, but shredding with style, with emotion... i even cry when i hear the solo. its so full of emotion (imo)

i never thought a solo can wake emotions! for me the solo of "the blind leader" stands for hope, despair, don't giving up in life, struggling in life.

I haven't actually listened to the solo yet, I just got it, listened to the first riff, liked it, tuned my guitar to Eb, and started transcribing. I won't do the whole thing but I'll listen to it soon.

This guitarist must be able to downpick pretty damn fast...

That's what I hear and it sounds right on guitar pro. I tryed adding random "1"s to see if it is a hammer-on thing but it doesn't sound like it to me. Fell free to give it a go yourself and get can compare.

hm... could be... maybe its palm muted on some notes and with a lot of distortion it could sound like a "hammer-on/pull-off".

but at least the part at 0:36 is a hammer-on/pull-off for sure (hope so :p )

I wouldn't be suprised if that bit at 0:36 was picked actually. It's got a sharp tone and he seems to favour alternate picking during the whole solo.

Repcak, here's that transcription of Kalmah. I think it's pretty accurate in terms of both guitar parts. I mean, if you just listen to the left, then the right you can hear the notes that I've tabbed pretty clearly, but when they're together, some of the harmonies sound off, maybe just because it's guitar pro.

i just called my guitar store and asked them if they have the Jackson DXMG - no they don't have it; they have to order the guitar first. i planned to travel tomorrow to the store and buy it... now i can't.

so i wrote an email to both guitar-stores in my close range and asked them how long it will take to order a Jackson DXMG and how much i have to pay + i send them a link to an online shop where the guitar cost 465Euro... ;)

lets see what they will answer...

i saw them in vienna on 6.1.2006 after their concert. after the show i was sitting in the pub, which is part of the concert hall and waited. at about 2am all the band members were sitting suddenly in the same room. so i just had to go to them and talk ;)

As I said before, if you listen to each guitar track individually, it sounds right compared to the song, but when you put them together, you get some ugly harmonies. I'm not sure what's going on.


I'm not similar with him... Paul Bostaph is the drummer who played for Slayer when Dave took a break. He plays on the War At The Warfield DVD and he's on the album that Dittohead is on, Divine Intervention I think it is, and there's a few others too.



What program would I use to rip a DVD onto my computer into .avi/mpeg format whilst keeping the same size/quality?

i always used DVDx2.0 - its good enough (for me) and you can decide how the quality should be. its a free program.

i just got an email from my guitarcenter. it will take 2-3weeks to order the guitar. i have to pay 20% and when i decide not buying, i won't get the 20% back. :upset:
i'm so pissed off.
now i have to wait, much longer to get my jackson... and i don't know how long.

What Ghost said... DVD Decrypter used to be solid. (rip to an ISO), the new version fukks up your registry when you uninstall though. So that's a skip.

Download "dvd shrink"...It'll compress say an 8gb movie, into 3 or 4 gb.

I've used Sonic Record Now to rip a DVD as an ISO and a billion other things.

it will take only one week, not 2-3weeks
if i decide not to buy it, its not a problem :thumb:

Yeah Metal Dog, or Technical Difficulties has the same rhythmic structure. Alexi lists Paul as one of his influences so it's probably not coincidental.

I listened to the Pantera song that was supposed to sound like In Your Face but it just didn't, in my opinion.

i just realize that on every bodom album there is at least one song with the word "bodom" in it - so there is always one song on each album, which deals with the murder at lake bodom some 30yrs ago.

Well it's over a pretty cool riff, regardless of how little notes it has but as I said, I don't really think a keyboard is essential in that song but I'm just throwing suggestions at you, you don't have to do it of course.

Obviously, the newer stuff is more open for your situation due to the keys playing a smaller role and Hatebreeder/Follow the Reaper involving the most keyboards.

What about Bodom After Midnight, Lake Bodom, Warheart?

I saw Bodom last night and they were obviously awesome. I love Henkka.. and Alexi, and I screamed that but I'm sure they couldn't hear me at all. The stupid small Bodom concert shirts ran out :(

Paul Gilbert has great style, but after watching some videos from japan, where only he alone play on stage like G3 does, it was awful... all the time the same licks in another position... it gets boring.

what i love are his songs by racer x: scarified, technical difficulties... fantastic :D

I don't really like the old Racer X but some songs off Superheroes and Technical Difficulties are cool. No denying he's an amazing player though.
