Yeah Derek Roddy is a stupidly fast drummer, my mate practically wants to suck his balls, he's a member of his forums too. I think he's amazing but amazingly boring to watch, especially when he's doing those drum "solos", if they were that fast and creative then it'd be great but it's just not.
Also, I don't think Jaska gets enough credit. Sure, his beats aren't exactly the most interesting things in the world, and they're mainly based on 3/4/6, but he can play at 200+ with great ease, and has been doing so since he was like 13 in InEarthed.

I honestly don't like Jaska much. Granted what you say is fully true. I still don't find him interesting. Though there are some fills on the hatebreeder album that are tight. He's got his moments.

you're writting a "Gothenburg"-style-song?! HOW do yo do it? i'm just curious, cause gothenburg = melodic death metal, the only difference is that in gothenburg you scream more and growl less... as far as i'm not wrong.

Gothenburg just has a different sound than melo-death. Almost industrial influence I believe.

no, no... i listen a lot industrial-music and know what industrial is. there are no industrial-elements in gothenburg. no, never. a lot of ppl think industrial = electronic elements in music, but this is wrong... soo wrong. don't make this mistake.
and yes gothenburg has a different sound, but i would like to know, what exactly are the differences between them.

Well I don't mean it's specifically Gothenburg, but ok, melodic death metal style.
I put the guitars in B standard, used a 16th note riff at 140bpm and put a Slayer type beat to it, just reminded me of something AtG would do, so I just said it was that style.
At the Gates used to really be my thing.

IheartSP
06-17-2006, 01:29 PM
AtG isn't really Gothenburg. They tread the line but I think of them as more Melodic Death. Gothenburg doesn't have an industrial influence, later Dark Tranquillity does but that's just their style, not the whole genre's. Gothenburg has a lot of elements of Thrash in it, but much more Melodic. Think Thrash with harmonized guitars, lot's of tremolo picking, blast beats, double bass, and just an overall melodic sound.
Early In Flames and any Dark Tranquillity is a good example.
AA-12
06-17-2006, 01:38 PM
Thrash > Gothenburg.

MRDuCran

I guess I just said Gothenburg because that's where In Flames are from, and they're kinda in that style too. I really don't care what exact genre bands are, as long as I like them it doesn't matter to me. I can't really seem to get into In Flames but I do love Take This Life and Dead End.
Dark Tranquility, I like a few of their songs. I think one is Black Noise, White Silence, that's cool. I have alot of DT and AtG songs, I just haven't really dedicated enough time to listen to them properly.
Thrash > Gothenburg.
It's true, it's true :p

It's definately tighter than the live videos I've seen, which is pretty much what I was going by when I said what I did. I have to say it's not the type of music I'd want to listen to all day though but that's the most technical CC song I've seen/heard.
Squirrel
06-19-2006, 04:07 AM
No prob dude.
If you give their work a close listen, especially with a GP or powertab file, lots of it is on a par with that, or just below. Theyve got a very distinct technical edge.
That may come off as sloppy live with the tone they use.
MRDuCran
06-19-2006, 05:41 AM
Yeah maybe it is the tone. I think it was that live Cannibalism dvd thing that I saw. Alsi, listening to Necrophagist makes them sound sloppy because Muhammed's tone is pretty tight.
Squirrel
06-19-2006, 05:49 AM
Thats a point.
But part of their sound is their buzzsaw, rough, sandpaper tone, layered over the wall of sound bass.
It's just a different sound approach that imo, sounds a lot better.
I wouldnt call Live Cannibalism sloppy, but I can see where you're coming from.
MRDuCran
06-19-2006, 07:04 AM
I can understand that that distinctive tone is part of what draws people to them.
Like when people say bad production adds to the atmosphere of black metal, but I just think when music reaches that certain point of techanicality, it should be of the higest quality so you can make it out, that probably explain why Annihilation of the Wicked is the only Nile album I can listen to.
Apocalyptic Raids

The Sonic Maximizer does something along the lines of equalizing all the sound waves or something, I'm not sure. All I know is that it makes everything sound better and more proffessional...so I'm not complaining.
Metaljonus' rythmn tones arent that great, but good enough for me when recording. I love the lead tones that come out of the V-Amp though. The cleans are pretty good too when adding just a bit of chorus and delay.

I probably don't like Necrophagist as much as Dylan or Wotan, I just really appreciate the leads. I recorded a sweep in a mellow song, Muhammed Style the other day, I was so proud.
I do like alot of their rhythms, I just wouldn't be able to listen to both their albums at least once a day...like Dylan does.

When I saw Nevermore at Jaxx, the opener was a local band called Apothys, and they were awesome. Their set got cut a 'bit' short, by 20 minutes, which was teh ghey, but whatever. Anyways, I had never actually heard Death until they covered 'Crystal Mountain' I think it was, or something similar. But it was awesome. This is their MySpace:

I have a few Cynic and Psycroptic songs on here, but once again that bad production turns me off of it straight away. If they recorded an album that sounded like Nile's AoTW, I'd probably be able to hear it better.
I know Watchtower is other bands with Ron Jarzombek in, but I haven't any of their material, just the Spastic Ink stuff. I'm practising The Mad Dash, it's great.

Psycroptics production is great, its crystal clear, polished and very honed.
However, compared to Decapitated's Winds of Creation or the latest Cannibal Corpse, you'd say it sounds meagre and puny.

my singer and i are going to the shop tomorrow to possible purchase something actually. If i can find anything to record with, ill just record the hard bits and post them.
edit : if i say i "nailed" a section, i really did. I know the difference anyway.
I finally "nailed" my favorite part of the song. Not the taps, those were easy. Im talking about the fast descending run after the chorus theme. Here, i was playing it in triplets, which essentially is correct, but if you listen to the recording, he actually phrases the passages in sextuplets. Once i realized that, the light bulb went on, and i get excited whenever i play it

Passing off a guitar because they think it's ugly IS a plausible reason though.

Some would argue since music is about using your ears, but I for one agree. I don't want to be on stage with an ugly piece of crap that sounds good, when I could get a nice looking guitar that sounds good.
Warlock's and Beast's look good imo.

Yeah, when it comes to guitar, it's something that you're going to be around and see everytime you play it, so you might aswell have it look good.

About the DVD, it sounds killer. Patric always does fantastic things. The only lame thing about it though is that they day after that gig, when I saw them they played the exact same setlist only with Follow The Reaper aswell. =/

They've been changing a few songs, like swapping 3-4.

in the last two days i discovered a lot of great bands who are coming from austria!
ever heard of 'Daylight Torn'? some years ago they had a breakthrough with their debut cd and were on tour even with paradise lost and therion. they make goth-rock/metal. the funny thing is, that one of the band members went to my school and is some 5yrs older than me. i still remember him when i was 13/14 and he graduaded from school... its awesome.

yarrrrr! I'll be pirating that.
@ Adam, Yeah. They died. It's in the process of being turned into a trolling clan forum + a tad of general discussion so it looks legit consider most sub forums are hidden unless an Admin allows you in.

Ah I see.
I will probably pirate it to, but if it is good, which I know it will be, I will buy it when it comes out.

har har har.
I doubt I will. I was flying on torrents last night. I had three going at once around 250-475 kb/s and upping barely anything. like 5 kb/s. leeching 123
Normally with one or two, I'd be getting higher speeds than that.
