Anyways. Universal Mind is MUCH easier than I thought.

The main riff isn't hard. The intro is rather tricky. I can play it almost up to speed but it sounds REALLY sloppy. So I started really slow. Which is where I'm at on it. Just going to slowly work the speed up with what sounds crisp and clear.

The main problem I have with current DVD teachings/instructionals is that they rarely provide any insight as to WHAT exactly is happening. Since I'm 100% self-taught at this point, its fairly easy for me to recall my days at the beginning, and explain what I've done to over come these problems. I'm quite the technique whore.

its a basic 5 string sweep up to the 15 fret, high e, then to the 19th fret. I COULD stretch it, if i were to use my middle finger on the 15th, index on the 12th, and pinky on the 19th, but i saw a video of a guy tapping the 19th, and i was like "DUH"

the common thing with TRYING to stretch beyond your reach is you try way to hard, the tension builds to massive proportions, and you cant make it.


Obviously, when you someone who can stretch, you think "man, that fukker has huge hands" in reality, my fingers are small as hell, and i play on a 27" baritone.


what you need to do is stay relaxed, and try to push the boundaries. What i do is try to work out, in my head/brain what my limitations are. I try to find that outer most reach where i can stretch, yet remain comfortable. At that point, you try to push the boundary a little at a time, hold, while remaining calm.

my stretches have started to get ridiculous with this baritone. I recommend it to ANYONE whos a technique whore like me.

for that example, i actually found myself being able to hit the 19th with accuracy, until i remembered that video. Normally i would tap the 20th on a normal sweep exercise, and i felt sheepish for even attempting to make the stretch :lol:

As I was talking to Jacob about all this last night I realized that although last night was a terrible shock to a lot of us, we should think of it as a positive experience. My eyes have been opened to how horrible the world really is, and I think we can all help in bettering it. You go through your whole life and hear about the holocaust, read about it, and see movies, but it never seems real, history never seems real. It wasn't until last night that I realized it is real, and we need to try and stop this. That site is a good start. The metal community should be united, and uniting against racists and nazis is what we need to do. I don't want to live in a world with people like that, and I especially will have trouble sharing a world with people like that if I were ever to run into one (seeing as I'm a full blown Jew).

You would think that when they didn't know I was Jewish all that time and they got along with me, and they would still like me when they found out I was. Racism is far beyond my comprehension. You are supposed to hate for personal reasons, I don't understand how you can hate someone for something they cannot change. They had no problem with me before hand and we got along quite well, so the fact that they would not like me after knowing just proves how horrible they really are.

Well I found out Dylan was a Nazi last night when I asked if he was half or full jewish. I saw the avatar and figured he was Jewish making a joke, becuase we've got that racial immunit to make fun of ourselves without getting frowned upon, but then I found out he actually was a Nazi and I had said I was Jewish. He proceeded to make a few racist comments and that's when things spiraled way out of control.

I actually saw a Holocaust video on some of the concentration camps. It was the most horrific thing I've ever seen. It's very hard to believe it happened.

One of the most eye opening things I've seen was a video of a blonde woman tied to a chair, and she screams "Snuff Films don't exist" and she's shot in the head. It certainly looks real, though I'm not a hundred percent.

There's also a DVD from the same guys that make Bumfights and it's about terrorism. I saw the trailor and was horrified to seen a man carrying a human head and dropping it off of a front porch.

8mm is one of the most shocking films i've seen... before this film i saw a lot of horror movies and played brutal video games and thought i can deal with brutality. but its something different when you know its science-fiction and when its real - like 8mm. now i have to write a paper for university about the chechnya conflict in russia and when i read some books i get sick ... its horrible what's going on there. execution, abuse, rapes, ... and the whole world don't want to know it - looks away.

i was two times in my life in a concentration camp: 1) near linz (i forgot the name). its some 100km away from my hometown and 200km away from vienna. after the visit i couldn't eat for the half day. 2) auschwitz last summer.

yes, i agree with you; iraq is the small picture but when you look at the big picture it has to do with the western world (secularised/catholic) and the islamic world - and some hardcore islamics fights the jihad against the westen world. Racism's inherent flaw is that it is wholly and totally illogical. Not trying to boast for myself or anything, but even though Dylan and Necro are both self-proclaimed Nazis now, I don't treat them any differently because of it. I'm rather annoyed that they would go and spam MX and be as rude and insulting as they were, but Dylan's been antagonizing this board with stuff like that for a while now. Racism works both ways, as I was saying to Julian last night.

And I agree, just as racists supposedly 'just want to stick together', we should as well. A conglomerate of all races standing united against racism would surely be force enough to oppose it.

Yeah. I ran World of Warcraft at 1680 x 1050 with most everything turned all the way up, and it ran at 60 fps constant. Gaming in general isn't too supported on macs, but with the dual boot on the new ones it could work.
