if you notice (obvious) hes just chaning the middle 2 fingers, then the last 2. I find a VERY good practice is to just try to confuse the shizz out of your hand. Like, instead of inversing the middle 2, id inverse the index and middle, then the middle and ring, then the middle and pinky, or whatever

Three string sweeps...I love them, but they're really starting to bore me, haha. I usually do 3-string or 5-string sweeps in my solos...I'm going to start doing some ascending-descending 6-string runs more often as well.

I've seen Alexi do plenty of demonstrations without ****ing up. He also happens to have a sense of humor and can play with some substance; that's what I like about him. JP mindlessly shreds until I'm bored out of my mind, and his near-perfect playing is part of what makes him incredibly boring.

I have to agree with Ben, Laiho ****s up all the time but it's his stage prescence and random improvs that keep stuff interesting. There was a point where I was exactly like him, just playing through a song, fukking up a solo and then just grabbing the bar and playing harmonics to cover it up, now I'm out of that.

But still, Petrucci is good to look up to to see what can be achieved, same with Cooley and and the other supa fast guys. I use Paul Gilbert for inspiration for my overall technique.

Yeah, he's such an inspiration it's not even funny. People need to realize that the "speed" (he doesn't even "shred" all that much) is only 10% of why he's a good player.

I agree with the points stated here - you want to have FUN at shows. When the players do their jobs like statues, it doesn't really matter how technically amazing they are. That's why I loved Dark Tranquillity live. Michael Nicklasson and Mikael Stanne both worked the crowd, and really put their hearts into what they were doing. THAT'S what makes a show.

I had no trouble with Triple Corpse Hammer Blow, but it just bored me to death.
Since the rhythm (most) of the song wasn't interesting. I didn't have ANY problems with that lead riff.

Top is obviously the frets, second line are the pick strokes, u=upstroke, d=down.
Bottom line, fingers.

It's an Emin arpeggio in 2nd inversion.

Accent every 3 notes to a click, therefore playing quaver triplets.
I'd suggest starting around 40-70bpm, concentrate on the flow, or the "sweep" of the right hand otherwise it'll sound choppy and uneven. Don't rush and think you're Jason Becker, make sure every note is sounding out perfectly but do not let the notes ring into each other by holding them down like a chord.

It's an Emin arpeggio in 2nd inversion.

Accent every 3 notes to a click, therefore playing quaver triplets.
I'd suggest starting around 40-70bpm, concentrate on the flow, or the "sweep" of the right hand otherwise it'll sound choppy and uneven. Don't rush and think you're Jason Becker, make sure every note is sounding out perfectly but do not let the notes ring into each other by holding them down like a chord.

I understand the mechanics of it, methods and technique. I just can do it.

(Towards Dead End) I tried holding as if were a cord, but sweeping... with each note ringing. That didn't work well. So I was trying to do it, what I think is the right way. Lift each finger off as I descend. That was very hard and I failed at that. haha.

PS: I watched Rock Discipline and John Petrucci's demo of sweeping.

All of their albums have Alexi's insane shredding though, so if that's what you're looking for, just get all of them. :)
