Enough with the Bodom talk you n00bs, your ruining our quality snow talk.

I've only been in snow twice, once in Oregon. It snowed before Xmas(I believe it was.) That was sweet.

The weather idiots on TV always say it will and it never happens.

Don't start that sir, you spam as much as we all do in here. :p

It really is a community thread with a bodom theme. Though we should try and keep the spam level down somewhat though. I mean life comes up though, we can't always stick to a stern discussion of Bodom.

Though I dislike their runing our nice snow discussion.

Onto ice!....jk.

I have several Bodom power tabs, that I need to work on today in addition to what I'm currently working on. lol

I'm going to learn the cool parts of "oops I did it again"... I may learn some of Bastards of Bodom or Triple Corpse Hammerblow. I don't know yet.

Well when we started it in was on a week break from college so I had along time to practise, now I'm back, I've hardly touched it...:upset:

But my max speed Ive got to so far is 115. Im extremely strict though, if I hit one wrong string/note whatever, I'll stop, start again, and tell myself I suck. I usually take the tempo a bit lower too.

Yes Dylan, I know I spam sometimes but it may be going a bit far when you tell someone to stop talking about Bodom so you can talk about ice...:).

Thus, I stop and start over each time I do.

Btw, those tabs you have in the pdf file are wrong, according to the way JP plays it. I have a live video and in the 2nd variation of the last bar, he clearly plays the C note on the G strgin, 17th, as opposed to B string 13th fret, the notes are the same of course but I'm picking about fingering.

MRDuCran
03-01-2006, 04:44 PM
Well either way can prove to be difficult, that way there's the string skipping, the other way, you have to roll pretty quickly 4 times to make sure you don't blend the 2 notes of the 13th fret.

Shadows
03-01-2006, 04:46 PM
I've been playing it without the string skipping, but the notes are played quick enough that they don't blend without rolling.

Silenius
03-01-2006, 05:25 PM
I do sweeping a lot but usually when it's an arpeggio that allows for a hammer or pulloff on the highest/lowest string of the arpeggio. I also love bar chord shaped sweeps.

Sadly no but one of my best friends did. It's too bad that they ruined the show by touring with Trivium. Ugh. Oh well, I'd still go because I love the other two bands.

You don't like Trivium either, eh? I don't know...they just didn't impress me. I thought the guitarist with the long hair was good looking though. No where near Alexi/Janne/Henkka though. Of course.

It was amazing. Amon Amarth was kickass, though I'm not TOO familiar with them. They did play Death in Fire as their last song, and I went crazy because I knew that one. Trivium was lame, and Bodom was....****ing...wow. They were just....electric. It was probably one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed. We had a kickass time.

That's not too bad. I've heard some people play ok after that amount of time, it's just most peoples trouble is trying to play too fast, too soon. Everyone does it, it's just whether you can control yourself from doing it constantly which builds sloppy technique. Considering the music you listen to, you probably have a quick right hand already.

I leant that when I was obssessing about Nile about a month ago. It's easy for your left hand but you have to make sure you can get your right to keep steady at 170+, if you can then you'll be fine.

How was you able to get the avi to work on the forums?
It took ****ing forever. I had to take a pic of every frame I wanted, crop each size and resize, then save to a different location. I used 11 frames. Then I had to mess around with the amount of colours it used so it didn't exceed the maximum limit for these gheybag forums. (19.5kb)

How are you?!

Kurrpt
03-03-2006, 09:39 AM
well, me putting a bunch of tabs would really be a waste, considering how easy it really is. The "routine", for a lack of a better term, really requires more focus then anything.

All I do is isolate each finger, and do hammer-on/pull-offs to the open string. Since im such a technique whore, the finger never goes higher then like 3-4 mm off the fretboard itself. Its really about going as fast as possible, while maintaining that "perfection"

The part you can REALLY tell its working is when you can actually isolate the fatigue to the actual finger. When you start to fatigue, your initial reaction will either be

A: tense up like "fresh fish" on his innagural day at the county jail
B: stop cause you're a pussy

I literally push on until i can't go any longer. When you start to fatigue, you'll notice the "perfection" (accuracy/precision) start to go to hell. This is REALLY where the "routine" starts to show its worth. At this stage is where you really need to challenge yourself, not only physically, but mentally.

Mentally, you have to focus even more so, to allow yourself to stay loose, yet maintain that "perfection"

After i cant go on much longer, ill repeat this with all 4 fingers. I want to actually start this with the right hand (like 8 finger taps) because my technique is getting THAT good

edit : ill actually move this up and down the fret board, all 24 frets.

i normally only record with my GNX4. I barely tweak the tone, so people always bitch about the recordings.

I JUST got my SONIC BBE maximizer stomp pedal last night. I am SO adamant about this pedal, and the way it improves my sound, that im thinking about micing my amp again, and give it a college try for the second time.

do you use/learn (by) books, or do you just play and work on your technique? or do you learn only by lessons you find on the internet?

if you use books, can you recommend me some? would like to work more on my technique, sweep picking, arpeggios and soloing and of course chord-progressions ... metal of course (not blues or rock'n'roll)

SimonCore
03-03-2006, 04:33 PM
I find the best way to learn to play accuratley fast is by doing scales over and over then backwards. It worked for me.

MRDuCran
03-03-2006, 04:40 PM
I have soo many dam tabs that I've printed off the net, just search in google images "sweep picking", "alternate picking" etc.

But don't ever forget you're going to get nowhere if you don't actually practise it.

repcak

since last week i learn arpeggios... but i don't know if i use the right "right-hand-technique" ... on all these videos it looks so different than i do it (slow).

edit:
the best thing would be to see a arpeggio-lesson video where the right hand technique is explained

MRDuCran
03-03-2006, 05:40 PM
There's not really a specific position you should be in, watch Jason Becker and then Marty Friedman sweep, they both can do it but they hold their picks way differently. The important thing is getting a smooth transition between notes/strings.

I don't know if you can record yet but it'd be easier to tell from that.

repcak
03-03-2006, 05:53 PM
i play arpeggios very slow... i pick every single note; but when i am warmed up, after some hours playing guitar, i try to play it fast and smooth as in the videos, but then it sounds sloppy.

MRDuCran
03-03-2006, 06:19 PM

I could play the first bar of Serrana in the first night I learnt it, but it was really slow. I've been sweep picking for about a year, it does take alot of time and patience.

I could play the first bar of Serrana in the first night I learnt it, but it was really slow. I've been sweep picking for about a year, it does take alot of time and patience.

Yeah I just started learning sweeping, i can do all the crazy arpeggio stuff but when it comes to actually learning one's from a song....forget it.

I started Lashed To The Slave Stick tonight and made good progress. It's not very hard. It's also really fun to play and sounds sweet... Though sadly theres no way in hell to tune down to AEADBE, I can't even go down to CGCFAD. The strings will flop.

Though with the wonders of ajusting my amp's tone and trying different palm muting tecniques I have it sounding pretty damn heavy and good.

I've gotten pretty good at ajusting tone btw. lol.

It's alright to play the "step down" stuff in standard, doesn't sound as bad as I thought.

the only arpeggio part i can play as fast as it should be is the intro to swamphell by kalmah... this song is just great, and the arpeggio is easy.

It's cool man, I just downloaded it. I hear the arpeggios, the sound alot easier than anything Becker, Cooley or Li have written. I'll give em a shot later I think.

If you find the chorus easy, you're playing it wrong.

I havn't gotten there yet. ftr.

That the part where you skip down several strings at lightning pace? Back and forth?

That seems like it will be pretty damn hard.

Zakk Wylde rarely ever sweeps. The only sweeps he does are just between two strings, which I don't personally consider sweeps. If you want to start sweeping, I suggest doing things slowly like 3 string arpeggios and then 5 string. I was dumb and started off with 5, but I got it down far quicker than anyone else I ever knew.

I played through it at about 1/5 speed or so.. lawl.

Then sped it up a bit, damn... HARD AS HELL.
I got up to that point down pretty damn well. So I'm happy about that.

I'll start the torture of learning that next part later. oh boi.. already sounds fun :p

I don't know what was up. I had gp4, but I could only play gp3 files. Anything newer and I would get "to open this file, please update your guitar pro software". I deleted everything and pirated a new copy and now it all works.

Do not attempt to up date any pirated software or OS

The serial will hit the "black list" and it will become invalid

In the case of Guitar Pro, it reverts into the demo

I've only just signed up these forums (hey all!), so quickly I'd like to say Bodom are one of my all time favourite bands.

On the point of their last album, I didn't really like it. It just seemed too... "punky" (I'm gunna get flamed for that) in my opinion. It wasn't typical Bodom style, and I'm quite disappointed in it.

Favourite album, for me, would probably be Hatebreeder, closely followed by Something Wild (Lake Bodom = GOD). Hatebreeder had the classic that is Silent Night, Bodom Night, as well as Hatebreeder, Children Of Bodom and Downfall. Great songs those. Although I must say, I think I'm the only person who doesn't like Warheart.

Oh yeah, and I'm a drummer. ^^

First... Welcome to the forums!!!

You quite possibly are the only person who doesn't like Warheart.

AYDY wasn't "punky". I don't hear that at all in it. It's in fact alot heavier then CoB's other works. You most likely don't like it because there isn't the neo classical elements in it. (listing Something Wild and Hatebreeder as your favs would lead me to believe this).
Hatebreeder is second best in my book. Follow The Reaper being first.

If you listen through each album, in order... You can hear they were getting heavier and heavier with each release.

I think Something Wild is more "punky" then AYDY by far. With "The Nail".

Yeah I dig what you're saying, but by punky I just meant it seemed too... straight forward. You know? I couldn't say it's verse-chorus-verse-chorus because alot of their older songs are like that in way, but yeah, maybe it is the whole neo classical thing that seems missing.

Try playing some of the songs on AYDY, many of them are actually more technical then older CoB.

FTW.

I updated my pirated software with a pirated update thing and it's fine, everything works perfectly.

The tab for LttST on mysongbook is incorrect, and I don't know the correct version.

Inkstar - Welcome, good to hear you're a drummer. You're the only actual drummer here. I and another play drums a bit aswell as guitar but it's mot our main instrument. Do you have any recordings of yourself playing??

How have you been otherwise?

@MRDuCran: how long does it take you to learn a whole song (intermediate level)? solo included...1months, 2months. i don't have a wealth stamina and need to know it, how long i will have to practise a song, until i can play it.
