I guess I'd say 4.5 I spose.
I didn't think it was too great.
What were the good and bad points about it?
MRDuCran

Well I think the only thing that made it seem weird to me was the tuning being different and different notes.
I kinda liked the ultra bass, even though it was muddy too, it was still tighter than my tone.
I'm Charming

Drop D is almost as low as I can tune though.
I'd prolly be able to do DGCFAD.
I play on super slinky ultra light thin strings. Therefor the lower I tune the more they flop like fish outta water.

You shud get yourself a fixed bridge guitar, like my BC Rich Warlock, it can handle anything....unless you already have a fixed bridge.

What do you mean Fixed Bridge?
I have floyd rose locking tremelo if that's what you meant.
EDIT:
I've played several BC Rich guitar and never really liked them.
There was one I liked but it was a rip off for that much money though.

Yeah, a fixed bridge is just the opposite, like a Les Paul.
Floyds and Edge Pros are floating.

They hold tuning better and can go lower without being too slack.
As in, I can drop my Warlock down an octave and it'll be about the same tension as my RG in drop C.

An octave being F? Like Meshuggah?
Sorry I'm not a expert in that stuff.

Octave being E, so being actually the same pitch as a bass guitar.
Meshuggah use that for "Stengah" off their Nothing album.
E, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb,.

I'll be posting my slayer raining blood cover soon.
I think I'll need to practice it up alot cuz I got really rusty on that song, espeically the walkdown at the start of it.

I doubt I'd tune to that even though it would take five seconds.
I love the sound of Drop D.
I actually think raining blood sounds better in Drop D then Eb.
On the fast part after the walkdown, I think that really sounds alot better/heavier in Drop D.

Oh, I've never tryed it, the fingerings would be different and I'd probably get pissed off with it. I could tune to C# or something and use GP as a backing track.
And so could you if you have it.

The way I play Raining Blood in DADGBE is..
Instead of the top string on the 5 3 2 6 4 3 riff.
I bar it, nice and heavy .
I have to get that walkdown though. I used to play it as good as Slayer even on a acoustic. I didn't play it for a long time and I'm fairly rusty on it.
I should do Walk by Pantera, since I'm such a Drop D fanboy. :p
I've thought about doing The Quiet Place by In Flames... I already know bits and pieces and it's not very hard.
Anyone play Everytime I die by CoB?
I've played through it casuelly.. Is it as easy as it seems?

Yer that's it, Reap N' Roll licks.
Bodom Beach Terror is pretty difficult I'd say. That intro needs tight percussive palm muting. The verse riff can be tricky, it's pretty fast.
The chorus is probably the easiest part.
Interlude riff is tricky.
Solo is hard too.
So yeah, not a beginners song.

^^ The better of the two.
After listening to both of them. I think I really really rushed it. It was really hard to play without hearing what I was playing.
Sorry, I just heard it now. Man... that was... uh... really off it seemed. Yeah, you deffinately were in the wrong tuning. But I know all of those tabs tell you to do that trill part during the verses, but it is really played on the A string (in standard it's B haha). All it is, is this...
a--2(1)2---6(5)6---10(9)10---
Then you just continue. A lot of tabs are wrong, I learned the entire song by watching videos of them playing it, or me doing it by ear. I know that trill-like part is completely correct, just watch any videos of them and you can see it perfect. Especially the live Tuska video.

All I can say is watch it over and over again then get tabs of that video. It's not hard at all in my opinion. The solo is extremely hard though... I am never getting that one down. I saw the tabs on azchords.com and I think that are just a couple mistakes, but not many... they can all be adjusted by ear anyway.

Well, girls who barely know anything about music are easily amused by guitar or any cool instrument. When you play something perfect, or close, they are usually freaked out... I played Chokehold in front of a friend of mine for the first time and she couldn't think of what to say haha. Well, anyway, just raise your bridge or tremelo a little and then drop the tunning so it doesn't slack. That always works for me at least.

You seem like you are quite a bit ahead of me talent-wise. I tried to memorize the notes, but I couldn't... it's too hard in general. The rest of the song is pretty easy though in my opinion... especially the intro and chorus. That legato lick in the verse took a while to get up to speed though. Actually, I am still not sure it is up to speed, because everytime I get it fast it's all comming from an hour minimum of warming up.

would like to know why you detune your guitars to d or c or b or whatever. how said before i once detuned it to b-standard and for me it seems to be a more natural feeling to play lover than in standard (e-tuning). i was able to write better songs/riffs. it was a more natural feeling... maybe because i like the dark feeling and i am a depressive person. well, i want to know your reasons for detuning....

Yeah, I can memorize anything guitar wise. If it learn a huge solo in a few minutes, I'll probably forget it in under a month but if I take my time, like a few days or week, I'll know it for ages.
My technical skill is higher than anyone I know in person which can be good and bad. But then again, everyone in my music class are indie-ish or emo's.

It's something to do with shapes.
When the guitar was invented, people tryed loads of tunings and EADGBE was the easiest to play all the shapes and scales they come up with.
Something like that.
But I'm not sure why it's E and not C# standard.
PsychoticFlubber
02-11-2006, 07:54 PM
It doesn't matter much to me. I use almost all of the standard and dropped d type tunings. I don't tune to open chords really. I usually stay standard e with one guitar because a lot of the older bands I know used it. It has also made an easier learning experience for me with learning the finger positionings for chords and such.
MRDuCran
02-11-2006, 09:00 PM
I think practising in E is better so when you go play on a guitar in a lower tuning, it will be easier. If you practised in D standard, then played on a guitar in E, it would seem harder. Unless, of course, if you practise on a drop tuning guitar that has thicker gauge strings so it's the same tension.

Im just curious as to the reasons why you all drop tune. I'll drop down to D for one extra and makes it easier for me to right fast more complex rythms.
There are some classical pieces that are in drop D.

I just went through this with jay...
Go to your windows volume control, go to options, then properties, and click the recording button. Make sure all the boxes are checked off and press ok. Then select the one that is called either Wave Out Mix or Stereo Mix, and have the volume really low, I put it right inbetween the first and 2nd notch. Now go to guitar pro, go to file, then export, and click wave. Make sure the device is your soundcard, and your all set. Then go find a free wave->mp3 converter.

They're not really that different. They're both pronouced "Ya" for a start and both have 2 syllables. I guess for someone who doesn't say all their names alot, it's an easy mistake.

It's not wrong at all. You're just doing a lot of Cmaj outlining (C and G are the most common notes) so the F# is suprising because it indicates Gmaj instead of Cmaj.

Well C major is:
C D E F G A B C
And G Major is:
G A B C D E F# G
So the F# is the only different note. I suggest getting a basic theory book to understand/learn more theory.

/me is listening to Hollenthon - domus mundi album \m/
well, you could really memorize one box from like the E to e strings, and you could formulate the solo there, then mess around with different octaves to get it to sound perfect
u could also write it on paper, and learn it later

hey Mitch...
I listened to your covers. :thumb:
They were excellent. I liked the Passage To The Reaper best.
The soloing was perfect.
You should form/get in a band... Your really damn good.
Ah thanks man.
I was proud of that actually, the only thing is I had just finished recording one of the 75% panned rhythm parts and forgot to put it to centre for the solo so it's slightly right.
I'm apprantly in a band but it's drop C chugga chugga stuff and it gets annoying after a while. Even though Bodom use drop C for AYDY, it's still very creative imo.

No you can play any chord in the Gmaj scale, Emin, Gmaj etc. I can't really say when to use what chords since every phrase can have a different chord progression depending on the lead part.

After you write the rhythm, play around with lead stuff until you find something that sounds good. It's that simple. Don't make things overly complex by trying to relate everything you do to theory. People were composing some of the world's greatest music before there was theory to explain it, so the same applies to the modern times. The golden rule of music is if it sounds good, use it. If it doesn't sound good, don't use it. There's no need to confuse yourself during an otherwise simple process.

Well everyone. The new issue of Guitar World came in today. Alexi was featured in it showing a few practice licks (nothing Bodom related) and he tabbed out the solo to "We're Not Gonna Fall". It seems a little hard... Oh well, I wish he would tab out all of Angels Don't Kill for once. Or Tripple Corpse Hammerblow.

I never trust other people's tabs either. That's why I do all of it myself. It's good to be confident that I'm palying the correct music, but having to transcribe the entire song whenever I feel like learning something can be a major hindrance sometimes.

I use my ears to determine if the tab is correct. BTW.
I only will touch tabs that are 4 stars or higher rated. Then I'll most likely have to correct it, some. It's still better then spending all the timing tabbing w/e out though.

Thanks man. Even though Alexi is there, I'm really not sure that he actually tabbed it himself. There's fingering mistakes all over the place.
Like the first bar, 4th and 5th notes should have the finger numbers the other way round, since he showed the same thing on Reap N Roll licks.
Kinda sounds like he changed the asecending run too for live purposes.
Note 6 of Figure 12 must be a misprint.
But apart from that it's good. Alot of magazine's tab it themselves. Another example is Total Guitar when Paul Gilbert did a lesson on Street Lethal and they tabbed it wrong.
Sorry if I sound like a prick or anything but not many people actually trust these mags but I'll learn it anyway.

No, I know that they usually tab things themselves from other people. I just make too many assumptions about it because Alexi used to tab things himself for them since he has his own column. You are right though, there is often mistakes, but they are always corrected in the next magazine. For some reason Guitar World makes frequent mistakes on Metallica stuff when it's tabbed out.
EDIT: P.S. Alexi changed his finger positions recently anyway because he stated somewhere that Roope showed him it's easier to make the least possible movement. I'm not saying the mag is right, but I am just letting you know.
