Yeah. I started feeling that just before I turned 16. I didn't want that all to happen but oh well. All of the good memories from the past make things so much worse. Not that you know you were happy, but to know all of the things from that happy time have changed.

there are sooo many great and good guitarists out there... one of the best in technical sense? no! -> take a look at john petrucci, michale angelo batio, they are amazing in technical sense! they play their songs without mistakes, perfectly.

But Alexi inspirates me... i haven't seen another guitarist with such a great style and ideas... he's me guitar-hero nr.1

(besides that... i hate all shredders like malmsteen, vai, satch, petrucci)

Yeah, Alexi was saying that the US models wwon't be the same as that, and that the lower fin will be longer, whereas that one is exactly the same as his. But I wouldn't buy that one, I'd rather have one of the black ones.

I'd have to say pretty much every solo is great, full stop. There's a few exceptions and I have to go "meh" but there's loads of them that have a great part, if not that whole thing. I love the solos in "Children of Bodom", "Warheart", "Hatebreeder", "Hatecrew Deathroll", "Living Dead Beat", 2nd solo in "Sixpounder", Spit on Your Grave by Sinergy. Those are a few that I like that I can think of.

Everyone, take this into conscideration. Alexi is only 26 ( I believe). Not many guitarists get as lucky as he did from the work he has done. As much as I don't like Trivium, Matt Heafy, and the other guitarists will also add up to be just as amazing as the best, because Matt Heafy is only 19 right now, and after watching the solo's he has done for "In The Fire" for Roadrunner United with the other guitarists, my jaw dropped. Alexi is better than Petrucci (don't flame me for that haha) in my opinion, because Alexi doesn't play so damned technical that he plays everything perfect. I hate perfection (at least live) because it is much more boring because you could just hear the record at home. Right now, the top guitarists in my book (whether I like them or not) are Alexi Laiho, Rusty Cooley (if you have never heard of him, you MUST download his song "Under the Influence), Matt Heafy, and Herman Li (not because of his riffs in general, but because of his performance and astonishing solo's).

You don't, but live you can see that they are truely having fun by how they are playing. If you are just standing around all bored, I get just as bored no matter what they are playing. That's why bands like Dragonforce are so damned amazing live, because they jump around like monkeys on speed!

Playing live, you can tell how much they want to be there by their performance.

Matt heafy isn't very good tbh. On the Young Guitar DVD he's pretty sloppy at playing even basic slides, bends abd vibrato, it's horrible. Corey plays harder and faster stuff than him and and it's Matt that shows more stuff on there, even though it's just 8th note melodies...

Under the Influence isn't great compared to Peace of Mind IMO.

Yeah, I havn't seen the Young Guitar DVD. but if you ever get the chance to see the video that comes with the Roadrunner United cd, I suggest you watch it. The double solo's Matt and Corey do are awsome. I am not into Peace of Mind as much. I like it. Winged Prayer is better IMO. But, there is a video of Rusty playing UTI in his guitar room, and it is insane! I have a full video of him though which is instructional... he plays so fast it will scare you. Faster than Micheal Angelo!

Sure. But seeing a band live that doesn't move around much or swing their heads is very boring to me. I know, it is all about music, but why pay $20 or more a ticket and see a band tapping their foot?

And to the whole Trivium thing, I really do not like their music at all, but some times people need to keep open minds that bad bands can still have good musicians. I think Dream Theater is made up of all amazing musicians, but they could all possibly do better in other bands.

I whole heartedly agree. I can listen to a song 50 times and not be able to recite a line, it's the vocal melody and the flow of sounds and syllables that make a singer good.

PsychoticFlubber
01-13-2006, 07:20 PM
Yeah. It is so much cooler to hear a voice, without knowing what it is saying, and feel so much more from that than anything you do understand. I love it when the whole band sings in the background at the chorus too without knowing most of what they say, it sounds so much more powerful to me that way.

IheartSP
01-13-2006, 07:32 PM
Thats why I love Wintersun so much, I don't even know what Jari is saying most of the time but it all just flows together so well melodically that it just kinda clicks in my head. The lyrics happen to be awesome but I knwo what he's sayin without even hearing him becuase the music describes it so extremely well.

PsychoticFlubber
01-13-2006, 07:35 PM
Yeah. That's why I love so much Bodom. I couldn't care what Alexi is saying most of the time, because it sounds so cool anyway. Especially the Bodom Beach Terror chorus. I havn't heard much Wintersun, but I do like "Beyond the Dark Sun"... that's one of three songs I have heard by them. But, Sonata Arctica has great vocals like that too.

Yeah, but that was the start. And AC/DC (at least Angus) never stopped moving! It didn't matter. Classic rock was the beginning of alot, and people shook around like crazy. But really, the audience's reaction to the music, is usually the same as the band's reaction to their fans.

I think Matt actually sings the choruses. Namely, Drowned and Torn Asunder, Ascendancy, A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation, Like Light to Flies, and The Decieved all have great choruses. Too bad A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation sucks. I hate that song but the chorus is so catchy.

Okay that made no sense at all. Trivium (when I saw them) had just as much energy as COb if not more. And it's really nothing about looks. 99% of the time
I'm listening to music I don't see the band that is playing the music and it never seems to make a difference.

I personally don't like dream Theater but I'm not going to bash them because they are flawless. Yet I have to agree when I see a band live I don't want to just here the album (I could do that anywhere else in the world) I want to be entertained from the eyes and ears both.

As long as the band plays well.... and has some life in them... I guess it's all good.

Well I know it's your opinion...I just think it wasn't very well thought out...

Well if the band is playing well and there is energy it makes it all the better. Amon Amarth COB and Trivium all played incredibly well and there was good energy so it was quite a show.

Also, where can I go to learn weird scales and such but will still sound awesome in metal songs?

Study Marty Friedman for weird scales in metal. He was in Megadeth just incase you didn't know. Rust in Peace would be an essential album to check out.

Marty Freidman is great, but I could never understand him. At least not his melodic video. I don't know any scales or anything either, which also probably why it makes no sense to me. If you want to learn good scales and such though, I couldn't find anyone better than Rusty Cooley. I have his "Extreme Pentatonics" video, and his "Shred Guitar Manifesto" which are both great. The only problem is that you might need to pause it alot to practice them. I also have the tab books for the videos, so if I learn how to send them somehow I can if you want.

Which, yes, he would be, behind hundreds of others.

Speed Metal = Variation of Thrash Metal generally containing more melodic passages and more melodic vocals.

Bodom is part Speed Metal, but I wouldn't call Alexi a "speed metal guitarist" becuase they are predominately Power Metal, at least in their earlier works. Plus Speed Metal was pretty much invented by Judas Priest in like 1978 or even earlier maybe, Bodom's first release was in 1997.

Nah dudes. Needled 24/7 is amazing. Sixpounder, great riffs and solo (2nd), Chokehold has amazingly fun riffs to play and a very interesting solo, Bodom Beach Terror is all around sick with a great melodic chorus. Angels Don't Kill is probably my favorite, because of the Keyboards being so well in tact with guitar and the lyrics "Could you ever kill the pain in my heart, even though they say angels don't kill" send shivers through me every time. Triple Corpse Hammerblow has a cool intro and great song structure. You're Better off Dead is alot like Bodom Beach Terror, great chorus. Lil' Bloodred Ridin' Hood shows Alexi's punk side in my opinion. Hate Crew Deathroll is just another fun song to hear like Hate Me! So as you can possibly tell, I love the entire album.

Eh, I like his voice now. Seems he's developed his own style in a way. Don't get me wrong. The way he sounded on the older albums was badass. But he's coming into his own, I guess. When you hear his voice now, you automatically think "That's Alexi".

Alexi's now using more of his speaking voice, you can hear him kinda talk some words. The only example I can think of is "I refuse to be brought down by you" in Sixpounder, as opposed to the completely rasped verse in "Hatebreeder".

Yea its them, maybe. I know they did a cover of it at least.

The best cover Bodom did in my opinion is Rebel Yell.

It's by them yes, and originally by Sepultura. Anyone notice the one random lick from Lake Bodom in there though? I can't imagine it's in the original, although I've never heard it, but who's dumb enough to cover a song they ripped off?

They talk about what riffs they used as influences on their official site. Is it me, or is there a lick in Living Dead Beat that sounds very close to the end of the solo in Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr by Trivium. It sounds very close except for the last note is different.

I haven't heard the song by Trivium enough to really know, I could go check out the tabs and compare though.

They ripped themselves off in We're Not Gonna Fall. They steal an exact measure from Black Widow.

I'll just yousendit in case someone else wants it, ok?

EDIT: The lick in Living Dead Beat is at about 3:30, which is after the keyboard interlude/solo thing. The part in the Trivium song is right at the end of the solo/s.

hey just so you guys know someone in the Guitar forum part in a thread called "Dime wails" was saying that Dime is the greatest ever..blah blah blah. I brought up that he isn't so great and Alexi could out do him so easily and he the guy was like "Dime is so much better then Alexi that it isn't even really. If you are going to compare Dime to someone atleast pick someone good" I laughed my *** off

Pantera = Great mosh music.

Along with a cup of green tea and a hot shower, I wake up in the morning with the assistance of Behemoth.

I fall asleep at night listening to all of Damnation by Opeth. It's soothing. I also have another cup of tea.
