Moses

I've gotten to the point where I can't listen to Follow The Reaper anymore even though I used to love it. It sounds too same-ish throughout, save a few songs. Hate Crew Deathroll was different but somehow better and worse than FTR.

Maybe your just sick of the same songs just because you've listened to it too much. Listen to Hatebreeder for ages then go back, it might be a great feelign to hear them again.

Something Wild - 7.5/10
Hatebreeder - 9.5/10
FTR - 9/10
HCDR - 7/10
AYDY - 6.5/10

I love Alexi's vocals. And instrumental music is boring in the end. The vocals in bodom makes the music a lot heavier. And think the new style without vocals. That would really suck.

Agreed. On all points.

i havent heard enough off of AYDY to say what i think, but my favorite is probably Follow the Reaper, or Hatebreeder. im leaning more towards follow the reaper because its the first album i bought from them when i got into them a couple of years ago... still has that ''epic'' feeling everytime i listen to it :p

hatebreeder is awsome cause its got Towards Dead End and Downfall, which are probably 2 of their best songs ever.

Something Wild is good but not enough songs. The fact that Lake Bodom and Touch like Angel of Death are on it though make it really nice.

Hatecrewdeathroll has its moments but is not as great as ftr and hatebreeder. songs like Triple Corpse Hammer Blow and Bodom Beach Terror are good

Yeah I like learning songs cause it's fun to jam em out at college n stuff, that's if you can find a drummer good enough to play along, which in my case I can't.
But I can respect when people don't cause it lessens the effect it has when you hear the song I guess.

Off to bed for me I think.

I think lack of musicians around here is the biggest reason why I've never bothered to learn any. We have no drummers at all, one guitarist, and a few bassists who desperately hate metal. That leaves me and another guitarist to play, which doesn't work out too well. Playing a song isn't nearly as fun on my own either.

Shattered_Future
10-03-2005, 06:55 PM
I got lucky...I got 2 friends who have almost the exact same musical taste as me (we bounce stuff off one another, musicwise) who play bass/keyboard and drums. I play guitar, so we have enough people for a power trio.

Now, the full time band I have, 2 guitars, me and this one kid who's into more classic stuff, though he'll go along with anything, and another bassist, who's the same way, and the others on keys and drums. It works out.

Pity none of us are good enough to learn anything remotely hard... :upset:

Do they call all of your music "satanic?" I know some people who do that...

Come to think of it, my global teacher did that today. Me and my friend had to submit a topic for National History Day (we're forced to do it :upset: ), and the topic was Taking A Stand. Our topic was Black Metal: Taking A Stand Against Christianity. She accepted it, but proceeded to ask us if we partook in any of the events that we described to her.

I would have loved to tell her, "Yes, as a matter of fact, we enjoy burning churches on a Sunday morning."

Yes they do. They proceed to make a poor, mock death metal scream and sarcastcally speak of raping virgins and slaughtering Christians.

I've been meaning to use a black metal song for my prayer in religion class. :) I'm coming up pretty soon, so I was going for some true black metal or Vital Remains - Dechristianize. Somehow I don't think it's going to go over too well in a Catholic school.

I think you should come in with a Cradle Of Filth Vestigial Masturbation tshirt on, and proceed to play some Deicide. :p

By they way, do you happen to have some truly anti-Christian black metal, where the people really take themselves seriously? I could use some more for my project...I got most of the basics already...Mayhem, some Darkthrone (although more would be awesome), others.

I don't see the point in racking my brain trying to pinpoint miniscule, worthless falws. No band/album is perfect. CoB is my favorite band and I could listen to any one of their albums, start to finish, and love every second. That merits a 10 in my book.

Why you liked AYDY? so much, I guess.
In that case, my point stands. If he likes it then he likes it. I don't see why he should be interrogated about it. It's no different than liking any other CoB album for God's sake, it just sounds different.

To your first statement: Fair enough.

To your second statement: I wasn't trying to interrogate him or anything, I just wanted to see why he liked the new CoB more than the old CoB because most people in here prefer the old sound.

I understand, I'm just a little fed up about all the intense criticism about the new album. While many of us around here like it, most people everywhere else hates it. I say take as it is: a music album. Whether it's power metal or not, it doesn't ****ing matter. Music is music, and there's no point in dismissing music because of the label.

Don't get me wrong, I like the new album. Just not as much as the older material, but that doesn't mean I think it's bad. Living Dead Beat is one of Bodom's best songs, if you ask me.

Shadows
10-04-2005, 07:18 PM
I like much of the older material better too, but many AYDY? songs I would rate as some of my all-time favorites. They pulled off the new style incredibly well by mixing heaviness, melody, keyboards, and soloing. I've never heard anything like it by any band, and I think they deserve extra credit for experimenting eith something new.

New album is good but no matter how much people try and tell you here, music is objective, not just subjective. In terms of sheer musicianship the old stuff was better. Whether you like it more or not is a matter of taste.

Hehe finally a site that hasn't already blocked my email! Strange that, most sites have for some strange reason, hehe. Aniwho, yer, I like the new album, once again they change their style. At first i'll say i wasn't too keen, but it grew on me. I still prefer the style of HCDR, but there are a few songs I like more form AYDY? like Next In Line and the title song. Aniwhos, jsut thought I'd let you know... I'll go now, but before i do, i haevto say i think the bass lines in this are the most complex yet.. laters!

On an unrelated note, CoB played their first show in Australia last week. Since the album wasn't released in Australia yet, they only played two AYDY songs. Here was the setlist:

Hate Me!
Chokehold
Silent Night, Bodom Night
Bodom After Midnight
Sixpounder
Angels Don't Kill
Are You Dead Yet?
Lake Bodom
Needled 24/7
Deadnight Warrior
Follow The Reaper
Children Of Bodom
Bodom Beach Terror
In Your Face
Everytime I Die
Hate Crew Deathroll
Downfall

My point is, the album hasn't been released in the US either, and won't be when I go to see them, meaning I'll most likely be seeing them play a setlist similar to the one above. I guess I'll get the pleasure of seeing them play a whole lot of old stuff!

Sweet. :) I love Jacksons. I don't think any other brand could've given me a better buy than my DKMG.

I haven't played CoB in a while. Lately I've been trying to learn Behemoth - Sculpting the Throne ov Seth. It's pretty gratifying.

I dunno, Jacksons don't really seem like a decent guitar to me...they're either ridiculously overpriced (artist signature models) or sound really bad...

I wanna see if I could put Kerry King Signature EMG pickups in my Les Paul. :p

My teacher told me the tales of his horrible, horrible Ibanez, so I doubt I'll ever get one. I played several around Guitar Center and they all seemed like a crappy instrument. Even the ones that cost the same as my Jackson looked cheap and had a mediocre sound. My guitar fits me like a glove, so I'm content.

That's the exact opposite of what I've always heard about them. You could get a cheaper Jackson and still be getting a great guitar. Artist models are overpriced, but most artist models don't interest me anyway. My friend payed a few hundred for a used DXMG and it's a really nice guitar, especially considering how little he payed for it.

or do you use effects pedals?
or does your amp do the work/?

The tone's kinda thick for a COB song...

I got pedals...Heavy Metal Pedal (precursor to the Metal Zone), Crybaby Wahwah, and a Flanger.

I dunno what you would consider my guitar...it's not a Gibson, but it's made in a Gibson factory by old Gibson employees. It's called a Heritage.

Got a more decent price on it too...1300 used, plays the same as a 2500 dollar normal new Gibson.

I love Gibsons. Les Pauls = teh pwnage

If I got another guitar, it would most likelt be an LP. You can get a metal sound out of them (see Zakk Wylde) but you'll need to set it up. Gibsons do have a thicker tone, but my friend's LP has a nice high-end tone that works great for metal. The majority of a guitar's tone depends on the pickups and the amp, so just get some active EMGs and an amp with heavy distortion and you're set.

Shattered_Future

Hah, I can keep the front pickup, and replace the back one with an EMG Kerry King styled humbucker... :D

Then, it will please my dad AND me...

It'll be a jazz and metal guitar in one.

I think it's the other way around. His hair is naturally blonde but he's been darkening it lately. He's Scandinavian, so the light hair makes more sense.

The bridge is the one closest to the bridge. If you stand the guitar up with the headstock pointing up, it's the bottom one.

I always use bridge for distortion. I hate a bassy distorted sound, but I like a bassier clean tone.

Well, my home amp is my dad's Mesa Boogie...weighs about 5 bazillion pounds, but it's an oh so sexy amp.

My practice amp has now been regulated to my Musicman 50 watt 110RD, and my performance amp is an Evans custom 200 watt amp.

Once again, being the son of a musician has MANY perks. :D

just practise and practise..first play it at 50% speed, when can do it perfectly increase 75%, and then 100% and then 125% and then you're ready to play along with the song, hehe..
