BUMP one more time before I go to bed. Need vocalist for sure. Keys may end up being programmed. Song will most likely be something off of FTR or Hatebreeder.

Tentative competition lineup:

Vocals - *Open*
Guitars - Me and Zapp
Bass - TSASI
Keys - *Open*
Drums - 88_Fingers_Joe

Any decision on a song yet? We could probably pick one now that we sort of have the instruments picked out so we can learn the song. I'm thinking either bed of razors or everytime I die would be cool. Also did you want to play lead or rhythm or how did you want to divide the guitar parts?

Even though im not a part of this...i have a song suggestion.

You guys should cover either Children Of Decadence or Bodom After Midnight. Both would be really sweet.

I can already play a good deal of parts from both of those, so either works for me. The ones that Shattered suggested would be cool too. After listening to you Soundclick stuff I think you're probably a bit better than me so you can take lead if you're up to it. Assuming you do take lead I think it's fairest to let you have most of the say in picking the song, being as most of the leads aren't exactly easy. Let us know what you'd like to do. As far as all the final mixing goes when we have our stuff recorded, I'd be happy to do that. But yeah, unless any of the other members object, go ahead and pick the song and we'll get cracking on it.

Sounds good to me. I know most of it already anyway. Not too tough, but still cool as hell. We'll see if our other members are fine with it. How do you think we should handle recording, all of us record our stuff separately and then mix it all together (I see problems arising this way) or starting with Joe laying down drums, he passes the file to someone else, they lay down their track, and so on...? I think the latter will work better but either way could.

Usually the drum tracks are done first, then bass/rhythm guitar, then lead so it would be easiest if Joe did his tracks then passed it on to the rest of us. We could also find a backing track and record our parts over that but Joe's playing would have to be air tight and right on 150 bpm (thats what bed of razors is at I believe). I'll post a backing track if I find one :thumb:

I looked and looked for a bass tab for bed of razors, and I could only find very unaccurate ones, and it seemed hard at that. So, we could either do another song, or get a better bassist who could figure out the song better. I would suggest the latter because I feel that i'm holding you guys back.

That one looks halfway decent I think. Sounded good humming it in my head anyway...Also, you'll always find the best tabs on www.mysongbook.com (requires GuitarPro) or www.powertabs.net (requires PowerTab). Anyway, the one above looks like it would work and doesn't look too complicated. If you think you can play that let me know. If not, well then I guess it's option B.

It's July 1st, so we got a little over 3 weeks. Just give it a try, try playing it with the song, and let me know if it'll work.

Joe: When you're around, give us your ok or objection to doing Bed Of Razors. If you're cool with it...GET CRACKIN' ON IT :p . /Pulls out whip. We need your drum track before any of us other cats can record, and time is of the essence. Godspeed.

I found the GP4 file for bed of razors and the keys are pretty much dead on... I can convert just the keyboard part to an mp3 and we can use that if we can't find a keyboardist.

COB is a really gifted band. Alexi and Janne work well together complementing eachothers parts on the keyboard and guitar. Q: How to pronounce Bodom?

A: The lake was originally named by the Swedish ("Bodom-träsk") when they ruled over Finland years ago. The Swedish pronounce Bodom like "Boo-dom" (American pronunciation) and the Finnish way to pronounce it is "bottom" (American pronunciation again). BUT the thing is that since it was named by the Swedish, the somewhat official way to pronounce it here is indeed Boo-dom but some Finns tend to use "bottom" anyway. To hear a robotic pronunciation, go to http://www.mikropuhe.com/demo.asp, write "buudom" (=Boo-dom) or "Bodom" (=bottom) in the empty field and hit "Kuuntele puhe".Yeah..

'HateCrew Deathroll' had an industrial feel to it, I didn't really dig it as much their previous work. As for their next album won't be like 'Folllow the Reaper', it's going to have industrial elements as well. :(
How do you know this?

Check out the Scythes Of Bodom site...

In a recent interview with the Finnish music magazine Soundi Alexi revealed that some completely new influences can be heard on "Are You Dead Yet?". He told that the album will be even more straight-forward than Hate Crew Deathroll and that it will have some industrial elements on it, not forgetting COB's trademark, the super fast guitar and keyboard solos.

Nother do have quite a bodom sound but they are, IMO a good band. The guitar stuff is good, Not Alexi good but good. The vocals are a bit more screamy than Bodom but are very similar. Also there is a band named Kalmah who are also very Bodom-ish. If you would like I could upload a few songs for you.

Thats kinda what I was talking about. He's had classical and jazz training ever since he was little. In Finland kids are required to take music education through high school. He also attended a top music school. And then theres the whole having an album out when he's 18 thing. :)

A lot of people I've talked to hate Alexi's voice. I think it suits the band well, although sometimes it's hard to understand what he's saying (e.g Towards Dead End). He is an amazingly gifted guitarist and to be able to sing and play songs that fast is incredible.

If im SINGING, i can't really play good, unless its really simple.

If I'm doing growls, i can play slightly more complex stuff...i don't have to focus on the vocals as much, since it doesn't have to be in key.

I think Bodom's lyrics are the worst part of the band...they can get VERY irritating at times.

Janne IS the orchestra. In Everytime I Die, it sounds like there is an orchestra playing behind the guitars, but it's Janne.

Janne is truly amazing. He's often overshadowed by Alexi, which is too bad, because he's insanely talented. I'm ashamed to say I've never heard any Warmen. That guy can go from an orchestral feel to very atmospheric to insane soloing at the drop of a hat. Sometimes it's hard to believe it's just one guy with a keyboard.

Here is Dimmu Borgir's complete discography of full-length albums with a brief description of each.

For All Tid (1994)

With their debut album, Dimmu played a style of melodic yet true black metal. The music was highly melodic and atmospheric with many memorable moments, while pertaining to an unpolished (and occasionally sloppy) sound common to black metal. Much of the sound is based upon a melodic ambience with the instruments and shrieked vocals used as a heavy support. This decision creates somewhat of a melancholic and depressing brand of black metal. This album brings the bear essentials of the sound they have created their entire career, traces of which are still easily heard in their music even today.

Stormblåst (1996)

The second time around, they seem to have matured as songwriters. The music is in the same vein as their first album but the instrumental work is much cleaner. The songs are more memorable then ever and more elements were incorprated into their music. Still, the music is melodic and atmospheric metal with the same harsh production. This is generally considered their best album, as it features the most refined sound of what they intrended to create, as well as featuring the now-controversial Sorgens Kammer. Piano was used more often to accent that familar ambience, which made the album slightly more symphonic and melodic and less somber then For All Tid.

Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (1997)

This is where their major change began. For lack of a better description, this album sounds like Stormblåst raping Dusk & Her Embrace. The music is as melodic as ever, but is accompanied by many new features. They took advantage of their larger label and used crystal clear production, which truly allows for every aspect of their sound to blend as they intended. The music, while still incredibly melodic, favors synth effects as the main focus creating a very dark and unusual atmosphere. The songs are generally slower and less harsh musically while still achieving a very surreal metal feel. This is probably my favorite Dimmu Borgir album.

Spiritual Black Dimensions (1999)

Furthering the transition of their music, Dimmu Borgir became more extreme then ever. This album has the fastest and heaviest songs they had written up to this point. While the music still possesses the strong synth effects of Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, the drums and guitars are all played with more intensity then in the past. Shagrath adopted a deeper scream which suited the style, while operatic vocals were used throughout the record. The playing was a technical step forward, as all instruments were played using various techniques to come together for a sound more menacing then their other releases.

Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (2001)

To date, this is the heaviest Dimmu Borgir album, even moreso than Spiritual Black Dimensions. This album was subject to a rather major line-up change after the last album. Their drummer, guitarist, and bassist were all replaced by members who became fairly well-known for their future work in Dimmu. Nick Barker took over as drummer, Galder (see top 10 most ridiculous black metal pics) as guitarist, and the legendary Vortex as bassist and backing vocalist. As a result, their modern sound finally took form. A 13-piece strings orchestra from Gothenburg was used along with more clean vocals than before, making for virtually a whole new band compared to For All Tid.

Death Cult Armageddon (2003)

Easily the most popular of all Dimmu Borgir albums, the band went to a full-on extreme and symphonic approach with this. Utilizing a complete 48-piece orchestra from Prague, Death Cult Armageddon sounds almost like a symphony from hell at times. The writing is arguably the most original and memorable since Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. Riffs are heavy, yet pertaining to a constant melody. The orchestra gives the entire album an epic feel. To top it off, they had Abbath from Immortal to aid with vocal duties. Using every tool available to them, Dimmu truly put out a volitile album after all of their preseverence.

Stormblåst 2005 (2005)

Just as you may have guessed, this is a 2005 remake of the classic Stormblåst. Many were skeptical about this album. Some of the lyrics were changed, and it was unclear how the newer production would effect a black metal album like this. Fortunately for them, they got it right. This is my favorite album alongside Enthrone. This new 2005 release is purely symphonic black metal - surely gaining the legendary Hellhammer as a drummer could not lead to a letdown. The album features the old music refined to an incredible atmospheric level with every trait coming in clearly and forcefully. Due to legal reasons, the song Sorgens Kammer was left off, to be replaced by Sorgens Kammer - Dell II, which replaced a piano piece with a ravaging black metal song. With plenty of new and revamped material, this is basically a brand new experience.
