Proof that drugs don't pay, my friend. The downside definitely outweighs the positive when it comes to smoking.

That's what I thought. Drugs and smoking never appealed to me at all, but I'd like to have an alcohol experience. A greater instant effect without the severe, lifelong damage. :) Unless od course you become a serious alcoholic, but that's a completely different story.

Marijuana will do the same, you could do it once and be much less ****ed than if you drink heavily. Drinking heavily includes barfing, regrets and a hangover.

But all of that will be gone in a day(s). Smoking heavily can permanently damage your brain, along with the rest of your body. Drinking can dmage your brain and liver but you'd have to be a major drinker before that sets in. Getting drunk once in a while is much, much less dangerous than smoking once in a while.

Getting really drunk once in a while will be worse than getting really high once in a while, I've been through both stages. You would need to smoke quite a bit before any real damage gets done to your brain or lungs. You could die from alcohol poisoning the first time you get drunk. No one has ever died from marijuana overdose.

That is scientifically false. Drinking once in a while won't affect your body any worse than if you were drinking Coke (unless you get incredibly smashed). Smoking builds up the damage every time you do it, no matter how infrequent you do it.

Exactly.

I can't believe how many times you've said exactly what I was going to say, haha. We would get along great in real life.
I know. :) It's weird. Judging by what I know of your taste in music, I'd say we'd get along beautifully in real life.

You could die from alcohol poisoning the first time you get drunk. No one has ever died from marijuana overdose.You...can't be serious? No one has ever died from a marijuana overdose???? *sigh* Like I said, you'd have to go all-out and really drink insanely to die from alcohol poisoning in one go.

Depending how regularly you do it, it could take decades for that to add up to anything serious/

Same with drinking. But smoking builds up no matter what. There's nothing you can do. If you drink and maybe get drunk every once in a while, you'll wake up with a hangover, get over it, and be perfectly fine with no long-term effects.

You're much more likely to embarass yourself or do something you regret if you're drunk. And you won't remember anything at all if you get really smashed. Where with Marijuana, you could get **** high and at least remember what you did.

Well, then welcome. But I can assure you it's not true. The day Alexi leaves is the day CoB dies.

I just checked the CoB official site and Scythes of Bodom, and they have nothing about it. It wouldn't make any sense to leave your band just before the release of a new album and te start of a world tour anyway.

oh **** im sorry guys i meant alexander has left (i misread)..im new to the band so im not sure whos who in tha band except for alexi. When i read alexander has left i assumed it was alexi but obviously not since alexi IS THE BAND. but yeah COB are awesome, and alexi is one of the best guitarists out there..plus he shares my favourite guitarist randy rhoades

Shadows

It's oaky. Alexander was the rhythm guitarist and left a few years ago. Roope Latvala (originally from Stone) took his place. It's good to see more CoB fans out there. Alexi is my favorite guitarist alongside Matt Bachand and Jon Donais.

Hells Bells
09-03-2005, 10:19 AM
heh...I made that same mistake. I got into bodom after Alexander left. Not knowing the band that well, I confused Alexi with Alexander, and freaked thinking that my new favourite band had lost it's lead guitarist. Luckily that was not the case, because then bodom really would have been dead.

hmm.....my display pic isn't working......it looks like mush instead of a piano.

alexi is definately one of my favourite guitarist...the first cob song i heard was children of bodom, alexi has a really good melodic yet flashy technique which really makes him stand out. i mite decide to buy a cob cd, but which one first? and are his vocals always like that (it took a while to get use to).

Shadows
09-03-2005, 10:26 AM
His vocals were like that for their first three albums: Something Wild, Hatebreeder (which has the song you heard), and Follow the Reaper. The newer albums, Hate Crew Deathrol and Are You Dead Yet?, have a more traditional scream. If you like that kind of melodic playing than I recommend either Follow the Reaper or Hatebreeder.

I love it because the riffs are heavy and ctachy as hell, the keyboards are as strong as ever, and the solos are fast while still fitting the song. Alexi doesn't go for all-out shredding like he used to but perhaps that's a good thing.

The term sell out is complete rubbish. It's their job people, selling is what they've always done, and they make music to do it.

Plus, when a band goes from not being very popular, changing their sound, and still not being very popular how on earth could you call them sellouts. Same goes for bands who are already popular and remain popular after a musical evolution.

I second that.

BTW Ben. Have you ever messed around with keyboards and synth stuff? The things im coming up with are crazy  But in a good way :p
I've messed around with keyboards a little. I have a cheap keyboard and my friend has a really expensive one, but we mostly just screw around with the different settings trying to learn keyboard parts to songs. I had the inro to Bed of Razors and the organ part to In the Shadows down very nicely.

ATTN: HELP WANTED

Here's the thing, my friends. I'm about to start writing my AYDY review for sputnik, but I'd like some input. I'd really like to go the extra mile with this one and include some things you wouldn't normally see around MX's review section. I've already got plans to include audio and video uploads, pictures, and maybe some interview links. What do you guys think I should do? Do you have any ideas for what kind of format I could use or what other things I could see? Just think about what kinds of things you'd like to have and what might make an otherwise boring collection of text into an interesting read. I appreciate any help you can give me with this.

I have never found any song on Follow the Reaper similar to another. If you love Hatecrew Deathroll, than you'll most likely like the new stuff, even though they're using less power metal stuff than ever.

Bastards of Bodom is insane. It's got an extremely catchy riff that will get stuck in your head, like Hate Me. I think it's the new Kissing the Shadows. But it doesn't have a solo, which is I think the first time I've ever heard Alexi not play a solo. It's kind of cool though, because now I have a chance of playing a Bodom song all the way through.

The pics/videos sound like a great idea. Maybe put something in from interviews you find, like Alexi's thoughts on the album, and post links to the actual interviews at the end. If you do a song-by-song breakdown of the album, you could include short clips from each song that support the description you're giving of it.

You might have to wait until the album comes out before you start seeing interviews though. Also, later you could edit the review to include your review of CoB's show, since it's being done to promote the new album.

There was a documentary on Finnish tv that featured prominent Finnish musicians. I think that Timmo Tolkki was on it as well. It would be awesome if someone could find a translated vesion of that.

I have these videos:
Trashed Lost & Strungout, Sixpounder, Needled 24/7, Everytime I Die, Downfall, Deadnight Warrior. Live stuff: Live at Tuska 2003 ; 35min long. Live in Japan '03 15 min. Live in Seoul '01 50 min. Live at Mystic Festival (In Poland I think) 10 min. Guitar lesson stuff: Passage to the reaper 15 min, Reap n' Roll licks 28 min (which also has som extra stuff from their rehearsal place). And also Trashed & Lost in Helsinki (it's so f*cking funny).

For a nre CoB inquirer, I recommend Kissing the Shadows.
