A specific example: Listen to the intro of In the Shadows, after the power chords. The part with tremolo picking and keyboards sounds very black metal.
Yeah I see where you are coming from there, but that's just one part. When listening to Red Light In My Eyes or Lake Bodom I am really just seeing a dark powermetal feel.

There's a very thin between dark power metal and melodic black metal. I've heard stuff by Dissectio and Naglfar that could easily be considered power metal. Almost every song on Something Wild has black metal elements in it.

It happens. No problem.

To Jred250: What other kind of music do you like? Bodom fans always seem to be very diehard and dedicated for some reason. Perhaps it's the fusion between unimaginable musical skill and catchy as all hell riffing/soloing.

Ohh nice to see another fan! I hated them when I first heard them, I didn't know what harsh vocals even were. I don't think there is a bad song off of Something Wild, Hatebreeder (my favorite) or Follow the Reaper. HCDR is questionable. I like it a lot but it is a lot different than the other three. It has more of an American feel to the music, it's less Scandinavian sounding. The lyrics are a lot more like punk because they have an F you attitude. The new album soon to come out Are You Dead Yet? is going in this direction but sounds even more American. I've yet to say I like it, it's not really powermetal at all. I think the title track is okay but it doesn't compare at all to old Bodom, at least not for a powermetal fan like me.

Yea, I dont know, Hatebreeder just hasnt grown on me the same way all the others have.

HB is the most emotional in the instruments as far as i can tell, and thats why i love it so much

IheartSP
08-28-2005, 07:09 PM
Yeah I think HB is just plain the most well written. I think that FTR has some better songs, but overall doesn't end up as good. Kissing the Shadows and Hate Me! are 2 of the my 3 favorite songs, yet I still rate HB higher just for its overall quality. It is definately the most powermetal of all their albums, and focuses the most on lead guitar.

FlyingPaul_83

I have never got any **** really, but I got a lot of weird looks like Sliptallica. In Eastern Canada (New Brunswick), at least where I live, there are not many fans of metal. I like to call this place the "hick ghetto." Most people around here is a hick, at least in the way they talk, and you are seen as weird if you do not believe that 50 Cent is the savior of modern music.

I certainly don't look like a "typical" metalhead, and that is why I get the weird looks. People in the hick ghetto get suspicious when they see a 6'2 guy with short red hair and skin as white the walls in his room walking around with a Slayer or Megadeth shirt that does not enjoy 50 Cent! I just laugh though. I believe metal is not about image, but the music itself, and that is the way I hope it stays for many years to come. :thumb:

IheartSP
08-29-2005, 10:25 AM
Well I guess if you go by image, I look like someone who likes 90s death metal. They just dressed in jeans and a black shirt. I'd probably never have any goofy 80s outfits on, and I'd never wear makeup or anything weird like that. I still look pretty metal, I have hair down to my shoulders and I always wear black, and a Maiden or Bodom shirt.

Most people round me are chavs of the worst sort i.e. wiggers who reckon they can be hard by jumping anyone not in a nike track walking around going "Innit blad bruv bling" so I get some grief. Luckily I talk to some metalhead guys who are in the rugby team etc so I'm pretty safe on the most part.

Children of Bodom was awesome when I saw them live, even though they only played a 7 song set, it was incredibly awesome. They should have had Fear Factory's slot instead, because frankly to be honest, I think Fear Factory is one of the worst metal bands to ever grace this planet.

I am seeing them again on the 23rd of November on their head lining tour, it's going to be sweet.

Them with Amon Amarth will be an intense show to say the least, and Trivium are no slackers when it comes to the live shows as well.

Pretty good freakin' tour if you ask me, because all the bands are intense live. Even if you don't like Trivium, they are good live...they do alot of nifty stuff guitar work wise live as well.

COB put on a great live show. My only criticism is sometimes on the first song Alexi can loose his fingering slightly, it's only slight but as a guitarist I noticed it. Maybe he hadn't warmed up enough etc... Having said that it's **** hard being lead guitarist and vocals.

there is also something called "goth STYLE"... and there's goth metal..

Goth is an alternative subculture; it is both a style of music and a fashion, like Punk. People who listen to the music don't necessarily dress in the style, and people who look like goths don't necessarily like the music either - a lot of metal fans have adopted the goth look, making for a great deal of confusion." -- http://www.scathe.demon.co.uk/gothmb.htm

"The name "goth" originally came from a Germanic tribe (ie the Goths). The Romans regarded them as barbaric and uncultured, much like the Vandals. "Gothic" was later applied to a style of medieval architecture by critics who regarded it as similarly barbaric and uncultured (something similar happened with the term "Vandal"). The term was later applied to a late 18th/early 19th century style of literature which had a fascination with death and the supernatural."

Nope, never seen it. If it's Cradle of Filth then I'll probably like it. :) It sounds interesting.

It's ****ing awesome, but I don't have any way of knowing what song it is. I'm asking Ollie right now. Besides you, he's my Cradle of Filth go-to man.

ShadowsFallen, have you seen CKY3? There's this Cradle of Filth song they play on the intro and it's awesome, but I don't know what it is to find it. It's got this cool keyboard thing, then it gets real chunky...which I haven't heard before in a Cradle of Filth song.

EDIT \m/ (><) \m/

Well Leah, I did some searching. I was looking through the tracklisting that comes up when I put the CD in my computer. Naturally, my interest was piqued after I saw an Arch Enemy song I had never heard of. It was called "We Will Reise" on my computer, but I listened, only to find out that was indeed Ravenous, a single from Wages of Sin!! So I dug a little deeper. I ckecked Amazon for the Metal for the Masses CD (the compilation) to check an official tracklisting. I found it, an lo!

That Dimmu song is not what we had thought - the title none other than Puritania!

But the filename came directly off the disc, so forgive me. :(

You had never heard We Will Rise? It was in Shattered Future's thread. It is an amazing song, really melodic, awesome chorus.

I have, but it was spelled differently on the tracklist.

How old is Purtiania? It sounds like a very recent song. Their older stuff wasn't so symphonic.

We Will Rise has some kiler leads in it. Esspesially the outro.

2001, off PEM

Which means it's, in fact, new Dimmu. Old in my experience only refers to their very different (but still great, in a different way) first 2 CDs.

That's what I thought. New Dimmu I think is horrible, but Stormblast and Enthrone Darkness Triumphant are great.

go here: imageshack.com

Click the "browse" button, find the picture you want to use as your avatar, and click "upload". Once it's done, it will give you a list of links. Look for the link that shows you the image. Right click the image and select "copy image location". Go to the forums, go to "profile", go to the avatar section, and paste the url into the text bar for avatars. Click "submit" and voila, you're all done.
