I wrote three songs three years back, and they were nu-metal.

I wrote some thrash songs lately, and the nu-metal ones sound way better. It's like I was a more intelligent songwriter when I was 12, and that baffles me.

Arch Enemy doesn't have the Gothenburg sound, no...there's no denying they're melodic death though.
Yeah, they are definitely Melo-Death.

IheartSP

In Flames doesn't have any real death metal sound in them though. I would hesitate to call them or Dark Tranquility or really that whole Gothenburg scene real death metal, besides Arch Enemy. I have Jester Race, and some songs, namely Wayfaerer and Artifacts of the Black Rain, sound really upbeat and calling them death metal is almost a joke.

As far as writing songs goes, I love to write songs, and I know some of oyu here have seen my stuff but if anyone else is interested in seeing my bands guitar pro's, I'd love to show you. Leah and FlamesofBodom have seen them all and liked them a lot, so if anyone is interested just ask. Also to anyone who has seen them already, there is a new one and I finished another one, so there are 2 more songs for you to see, they have complete drumming too.

Are they actual recordings or still Guitar Pro files?

But any way, now that I am able to record, I'll most likely be doing a lot of songwriting. I'd like to make some stuff up and get it recorded...maybe give you guys a listen when I feel confident enough. :) I have a unique idea in mind that I think I can work with pretty well. Hopefully I'm not a shitty songwriter.

IheartSP

I'd like to get you guys recordings but we dont have any lyrics yet and we don't have a singer technically the person still has to try out, but if we don't accept him I'd be pretty surpised I alreayd have heard him sing. Sometime in September when we are all done going on vacations and such we are going to the studio and we should be recording 4 or 5 songs.

It is unfortunately impossible for me to get the songs from recorder to internet.

Unless I do something retarded.

I may post my ghey nu-metal soongs when possible.

Wow, that sucks. I could probably get some good black metal there. I should probably look but I like to stick to downloading that kind of stuff because I usually like black metal in spurts better than over long stretches.

The first thing Alexi says is "Cause to loose all". Its the lyrics to the song and you can hear him say it again in the pre chorus, but i don't know what the next bit is since i don't speak finnish.

I love them. Very talented band.
Really??

Recently (as in a few months ago) I discovered I like them.

Ever since I had first heard Death Cult Armageddon I hated that band with a firey passion. I downloaded For All Tid just to give them a fair chance, but in the end I thought they were nothing more than a bunch of anti-Christs from Norway who favored symphonic sounds and a blasphemous image over actually playing music.

But then, a few months ago, a friend of mine (who also loves them) burned me DCA and Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. I still dislike DCA, but EDT I loved. It had some very cool melodies - like old Cradle of Filth with a symphonic atmosphere. I just downloaded For All Tid and Stormblast to see what those are like again.

Bodom was never a gateway to black metal type bands for me. I don't understand why a bunch of Bodom fans like CoF and Dimmu Borgir, Bodom really isn't anything like them if you ask me. I think it makes more sense that I listen to powermetal.

Shadows
08-09-2005, 03:03 PM
Since when are people confined to bands that all sound similar? It's called "diverse taste". I love Bodom, I love CoF and lately DB, and I also love bands that sound nothing like any of those.

I guess that makes more sense.

Earlier Dimmu was quite black metal and extremely symphonic.

Moses
08-09-2005, 03:15 PM
Yeah I know what older Dimmu sounds like but but I usually take a bands sound for what they've progressed into.

I like how in the booklet for FTR it says Bodom would let these people live: and goes into the thank you's.

AA-12
08-09-2005, 03:18 PM
Eh, Dimmu sounds nothing like Bodom. They barely even sound like Black Metal.

I like how in the booklet for FTR it says Bodom would let these people live: and goes into the thank you's.
I like how they do that too. Like in HCDR when it says "Children of Bodom would buy the following people a beer:" and it goes into thank you's, and then "Chidlren of Bodom would smash the bottle over the heads of the following people:" and they put down various people they hate.

Moses

Well listen to Angels Don't Kill and then listen to Progenies of the Great Apocalypse. I mean they both are newer sides of the band and the older sides don't sound anything like each other but still those two songs were similar.

Everytime they write. Alexi writes all the solos, whether for guitar or keyboards. He writes all of them. Apparently when Alexi writes a keyboard solo ,he composes on guitar, and then has Janne transcribe it for keyboard.

Apparently Janne always has a hard time learning the solos Alexi can play.

Moses
08-11-2005, 11:46 PM
Oh, well then my respect for Janne has gone down a bit and he's at the level of Rudess in my book.

It may be because the patterns played on guitar are not easily played on piano and vice versa. Janne should still write his own solo's.

Moses

When was it proven?

They should have a battle. I would join and pwn them both .

I feel so braggy right now. I'll upload somthing in a few days to justify it.

They've had a battle. It's called War of Razors.

I'd be interested in learning the solos.

Maybe we could do one song for the cover thread.... of course my keyboard sucks and my piano would suck to record to.

Meh, fast doesn't really matter much for me. The stuff Tuomas from Nightwish writes isn't technical at all, but it is still incredible.

What do you mean no sheet music? Almost all Bodom tabs have keyboard, and any tab is GP is also sheet music if you look 2 inches downwards.

I know that, but they never have the solos. You have to look at sheet music written for the guitar if you want the rest of the keyboard parts.

Silent Night Bodom Night is their best IMO. :thumb:

I think Janne won that one.

Do you mean the guitar/keys battle i uploaded?

It isn't working for me...

Ok nevermind, I've got it. I like the stuff that Janne does at the beginning. Those are some trippy sounding keyboard effects.

Change the hxxp to http.....it's to stop yousendit blocking it.

I liked the last lick Janne did to put Alexi away. Also the stuff in the beginning was cool too.

Well, I haven't been a COB fan for to long but I downloaded a song called "bed of razors" and absoultley loved it! I picked up a single by them called "trashed lost and strungout" and there tone/keyboards are amazing to me, and not to mention the solos, they are just like wow,oh and another thing is hate crew deathroll good enough to pick up?

Don't pick that one up first. It sounds least like their other stuff.

Try Hatebreeder or Follow the Reaper.

Hells Bells, almost all the Bodom guitar pro's I have have the keyboard solo in them, what tab are you looking for?

SilentScream, if you like Bed of Razors you'll love Hatebreeder or Follow the Reaper, but if oyu loved Trashed, Lost & Strungout you'll love Hatecrew Deathroll too.

I think Follow the Reaper is the universal starting point. It's the most "power metal" out of all Bodom's releases.

Hatebreeder is much more powermetal than Follow the Reaper. It has classical influence in pretty much every song, and uses more leads.

They both have classical, Hatebreeder probably more. But I think Follow the Reaper has more leads and solos than Hatebreeder.

I have In Your Face and Oops I Did It Again now. In Your Face is pretty nifty. It's starts with a DunDunDun DunDunDun type thing. Then an industrial drumbeat almost. Then a 1 second pause, and Alexi goes "GO", and a Hatebreeder/Downfall type keyboard riff comes in, and under that is a guitar pattern that reminds me of the good ol FTR days. Then out of nowhere comes this Black Label Society/Shadows Fall type riff and the verse reminds me of Slayer, at least the drumbeat, because it's like shuffled, breakneck tempo. They're drifting more and more away from melody and more into industrial me thinks.

I think Towards Dead End takes the cake for powermetal songs Bodom has done.

I can't even think of what that song sounds like off the top of my head so I couldn't tell you.

Can anybody around here do a really good death metal growl?
Yes.

I'm going to type up a small article on metal vocals and how to practice/improve them sometime this weekend. I'll post it in here.

I would really, really appreciate that. I've been trying to do death metal growling for a very long time with no success, and I could really use it. Most of the music I'd like to write uses a lot of growling and right now I'm working on a death metal cover.

I love you.

Can you list a few vocalists that you really like, growl wise?

Shadows

Growl wise my favorites would have to be...

Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)
Muhammid Suicmez (Necrophagist)
Sven de Caluwé (Aborted)

I can do a passable Phlegton (Wormed) growl, but that's easy. I really wish I could do a serious growl. Mikael Akerfeldt is probably my favorite.
