I think I know what you mean, but could you go on a bit more?
Using a legato technique to hammer then pull from the D# to the G to the D# again would be simpler than what youve typed up.
The way youve typed it out requires a sweep, then an un-necessary upward pick to start the pull off. Also, if this is the first part of the upward sweep there is a massive chance of the e string ringing after the pull off has been done.
Also, youve do the upward sweep kinda wrong, you shouldnt stop at the b, then start a down sweep on the G# - you should sweep up all 3 strings, then start the downward sweep on the b note.
It all adds up to un-necessary movements and bad economics.

The entire point of me doing it like I did is to practice muting and picking up on the e string. On the last part i'm still not sure what you mean.

But my point is the picking upward on the high e in the last few bars is plain wrong, its not required - its a dodgy wat of playing that lick.
Lame if someone is trying to learn from it.
You start your downward lick too early, you pick upwards then stop at the b on the b string - you should continue picking upwards onto the G# on the G string THEN start a downward picking motion on the b string, b note.
I cant explain any easier than this, i dont get what the problem is.

I've always learned to set a hard goal so that when you reach it, it makes things easier. Those are basically the sweep exercises I started off with and I think it will help her.

Ok I just listened to the first and here are my thoughts...
The Bad: The acoustic I wasn't really feeling. I don't think it quite fit in. The rythyms also seemed to need a bit of spice to them. One thing you need is some more leads. Also, a fill for a bar or 2 wouldn't hurt.
The Good: When you did have leads, I loved them. Some of the riffs also had a nice feel to them, and the solos were great. Overall, I was really feeling the song and felt like it had some good potential. I liked the whole layout too, I thought it seemed pretty thought out.
Onto the next one...

Yes the verses did suck on the 2nd
Although, I loved the solos. There were many parts it needed work though. I thought there were times where you had leads but no rythym and it could use some. Also, in the intro whe it turned to distortion, you had the whole note with the 9 and 10, but it woulda sounded better with just the 9. Overall it was about a 6 out of 10, I wasn't quite feeling it in some parts, but the solos I really liked.
flamesofbodom
07-22-2005, 09:05 PM
It does sound better with the 9. I really need to touch up my older stuff; i only downloaded that one for the solos :p

Ok the last song...
Wow man, this song is just amazing! I love all the riffs and it just has a great thrash feel to it. I have 2 parts to complain about. On 1 of the leads, there were a lot of out of key notes, it was the lead that repeats 4 times and has some legato. Also, the clean part just didn't fit. Besides that, you just did a great job and it was a great mix of rythym and lead, and the composition was great.

07-22-2005, 09:39 PM
Okay first song (66) was very nicely done. Iron Maiden-esque leads, which were nicely harmonized and cool riffs throughout. Only one minor problem was during the solo end of bar 78 and beginning of 79 the 10 8 7 thing could have been something different; like on 79 instead of 10 8 7 have 7 trill on 8 or something like that. I liked the solo as a whole though. Also just an idea, the last time you harmonize in the song change the melody so its a little different so one the second time you go thru the melody you can have an awesome harmonized trill or something like that. Good job though
On to the next one

Okay i like the cool little intro and the little fills in the rhythm guitar. I love the lead starting at bar 33, good thinking making it go higher. Then at bar 45 i loved how you changed it a little bit and when you harmonized it, it sounded really cool. I liked how you approached transitioning into the solo as well(kickass solo by the way). The bass sounded better in this song too. The thing i liked about the outro is it seemed complete. I liked this a lot

That was potential I'm guessing?Yup
Solid intro on this one. Cool riff after it, but the lead kinda bothered me. But when the drums kicked in it, everything sounded better. I like the verse and what seems to be the chorus(the slower part). Then you blast back in with the heavy riff and i liked the addition of fills here. Dude, awesome solos! I like the trills :p And back to the intro. Well thought-out song but the one lead i talked about before sounds odd. The song's good none the less. Killer outro by the way :thumb:
Once you write more stuff let me know :thumb:

I have half a song done, I just sent it to tsai. If you have aim I'd be glad to send it, my aim is AcesHigh616. If not, I'll upload it.
Thanks a lot for the reviews, I have both yours and Leah's saved for when I go to revise. I also noticed the lead sounded a bit weird. I think it has too much of an "evil" vibe, I should change that. But I like your feedback, and I'm glad that my songs are so good. TSAI even said I have potential in the music business, and when I start recording things with my band, MX is gonna be the first place I go. I'll get back to you guys when I start recording some stuff, because you could all be my first fans.

Hmm...it is pretty good. There were some parts that really bothered me. There was a fast run towards the beginning that sounded off. Also a few notes here and there didn't seem to fit, especially keyboard notes. When it became keyboard and lead guitar, I thought the chord progression was pretty weird sounding, I didn't like when it got low at all. Overall it was pretty good, your acoustic stuff reminds me of Bruce Dickinson.

All of Arsis's music combines speed and brutality with excellent melodies and incredible technicality. Their riffs are unique and heavy, while the lead guitar is melodic, emotional, and fits perfectly (except Malone's solo tone annoys me).

I'm glad you like them. They are everything that melodic death metal should be, no question. They beat out At the Gates, Amon Amarth, In Flames, Dark Tranquility and any other band you could name.

I cant believe they're from Virginia
:amaze: *gasp* You beat me to it!!!!
It's cool. There are no Arsis tabs anywhere on the internet. I always thoguht it would be cool to collaborate with someone to tab out the entire album on guitar.

I can give as much help as you need. I have transcribing software, so it won't be hard, I just need to get off my lazy @ss and spend the time and effort to figure it out. If you're into doing with me, that's pretty sweet. It's late where I'm at, so I'll start working on some songs tomarrow. Have fun with Wintersun.

You won't have to wait long for CoB to come to the states. They start a world tour in October and it includes the US.
World tour? haha excellent, I was looking forward to the next time they'd be touring. Where did you find out about the tour though? There's nothing about it on the band's website, all I noticed was stuff about the australian and japanese tour

First they go to Australia and Japan in October, and then they follow with the US and Europe. No dates have been given for the US/Europe portion, so we'll have to wait and see just where they'll go.

Those are Bodom videos. The first is passage to the reaper, the secon is bed of razors, third is kissing the shadows live, and last is an Alexi Laiho screw-up.

Does anyone have another version of the Kissing the Shadows live thing? I can hear it, but I can't see it. :upset: I don't think my windows player is ok with avi files.

That happened to me too before. You have to download Windows Media Player Classic. If I remember right, it's pretty easy to find.

Is there no other way? Like, just downloading a codec or something?
Hey! Where have you been? Everyone is waiting for you to name the HateCrew board, or me to put up an official voting thread. Just say the word.

Hmm, you might be able to find a codec somewhere.
Yeah, i've been so busy lately, sorry. I think i'm going to pick "Bodom After Midnight: The Hatecrew Forums". Sound good?

I was gonna download Kissing The Shadows, since that is a majorly badass song, but there's the fear that .avi files won't play on this computer.
And there's the fear that my computer will haave a seizure from doing too much at one time.

I'm real psyched they are coming to the U.S. They came to Connecticut once so hopefully they do again. I wouldn't mind going to New York or Boston to see them though.
About the Ultima recordings, my goal is to have them by August 25. My bassists amp is getting fixed as we speak, and then we are trying out a singer who seems very promising this week or next. Then unfortunately I go on vacation but when I get back we are going to the studio to record a 4 song demo, and all the recordings will go straight here.
