I've seen their live videos of them playing Cthulhu Dawn, it was pretty sweet.
They didn't play that live when I went to see them. :( That was one of the only disappointment, as it's one of my favorite CoF songs. They played a fair amount of songs from every album except D&HE, from which they played no songs, another big disappointment, as it's one of my favorite CoF albums.
But still, they played some amazing stuff like Nemesis, The Promise of Fever, Her Ghost in the Fog, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, and Nymphetamine. I was actually pretty impressed by how much old stuff they played.

Did they play these three songs? Lord Abortion, The Forest Whispers My Name, Summer Dying Fast. If they did thats awesome, those are my 3 favorite songs by them. I bet Nemesis was awesome live too.

I don't think they played Lord Abortion (another one of my favorite CoF songs) but I'm pretty sure they played the other two.

Wow, that must have been an incredible show. I'm definetly going to see them the next time they come around. In the mean time, seeing Opeth and Nevermore will suffice. :thumb:

Yeah, I think Forest Whispers My Name is one of their more famous songs, if I am not mistaken.

Ooohh, bumping an old thread!
Anyhoo, I've been getting back into these guys lately. I've decided to seriously start learning some entire CoF songs on guitar, as they're fun to play and well within my skill range. In the meantime, I can't seem to stop listening to Damnation and a Day.
It's also mildly humorous that people have been impersonating Dani Filth on myspace lately.

Yah, I read the post on the site about it :)
Mannequin is one of the best songs on DAAD, the intro is cool.
Shadows
10-26-2005, 06:10 PM
My favorite songs on that album are:
Mannequin (the intro riff is one of my all-time favorite CoF riffs)
The Promise of Fever
Hurt and Virtue
Babylon AD
Smoke of Her Burning
That album has a very distinctive vibe to it that none of their albums had. I think they blended the orchestra in beautifully. Many say it's one of their wrose albums, but over the years it's become one of my favorites. Still, their old stuff is unsurpassable.
Ollie, are you a big Cradle of Filth fan?

I could've guess by your name. :) But I never see you talk about them, so I wasn't completely sure. For me, they're my 3rd or 4th favorite, behind Shadows Fall and Children of Bodom. I'd say they're tied with Arsis for 3rd right now.

/apologies for account change.:p
Why the account change?
Probably my favorite is Cthulu Dawn...anyone else like this one?
Shadows
10-26-2005, 08:03 PM
Cthulu Dawn is probably my favorite song off of Midian, all though the first six songs on that album are pure genious. Midian is most likely my favorite, but Ilove many CoF albums, ranging from Midian to Dusk and Nymphetamine to Damnation.
Hey is it true that dani inhales air when singing as opposed exhaling.
I truly doubt it. With the amount of force and volume he gets out, he'd easily damage his voice beyond repair by inhaling. He also holds screams longer than any human would be able to by inhaling.
So in short, no, he doesn't inhale. He screams.
Damn, these boys put on a killer show. I saw them last year on the Headbangers Ball tour with Arch Enemy. That made my day. :)
Sounds to me like Ollie is an attention whore. :p

Hell yeah, but you have to listen to the end of at the gates of midian to link the two, like satyrisis and GC, the two songs link into each other too well
When I first heard the way At the Gates of Midian flows into Cthulu Dawn I had a musical orgasm. No joke.
It was a real  situation.

I saw Cradle of Filth at the UEA in Norwich n friday. they arent my favourite band, not by a long way, but i was surprised, they were really good. Good sound.
They played some good songs, opened with Guilded C***. They did play nymphetamine, but i was dissapointed it was only fix they did (i like overdose).
Their support (cathedral) was good too, their sound wasnt as clear, and the singer was scary tho (pretending to commit suicide etc)
but good :)

Right just got back from an excellent show.
Cradle were incredible good.
I was front and centre throughout.
setlist was
Satyrisis
Guilded Caaaaaant!
Medusa and Hemlock
Babylon AD
Thank god for the suffering
Cthulhu Dawn
Desire in Violent Overture
Nymphetamine (fix:()
Born in a burial Gown
Her Ghost in the Fog
Ebony dressed for Sunset
Nocturnal Supremacy
Heaven Torn Asunder
From The cradle to enslave
First of all, surprising set, nearly completely different from the last, some great songs, but not as good a set as the last one in April.
The Band were excellent. Fully Stagecrafting, with angle grinders in the encore, Living gargoyles that looked awesome when they moved as Dani gestured after being still for 2 songs. And a huge demon thing on stilts, too...
The crowd screamed along, unfortunatly noticably more to the recent stuff  and I noticed I was the only one I could see who knew the words to half of it.
Best moments:
The rapturous Cthulhu Dawn, Desire in Violent Overture, and Heaven torn asunder (that riff )
the singalongs to Her Ghost, and Dani dedicating Babylon AD to "you lot down there at the front" :D
Low Points:
Mallcore Kids...
Medusa and Hemlock, and Thank God for the suffering...not the best tracks they could have chosen...
Wonderful Gig, Dani was perfect all throughout, he hits those notes as well live as he does studio-wise. Just more Mid-period stuff next time!
Support
Octavia were alright I suppose, and very pretty, had to borrow Cathedral's drummer and he was the best in the bad the vocals were unintelligable and no stage presence.
Cathedral were 'kin excellent. Great Stage precence, but Few songs due to a 10'oclock (!) curfew
They did
Ride, Corpsecycle and Hopkins, as well as a couple of others I didn't recognise.
All in all, brilliant, desire in violent overture, Cthulhu dawn and Her ghost were my personal faves, but they didn't put a foot wrong all night.
Pure excellence.
Shadows

Someone I talked to afterwards met Charles...and got his ticket signed, I considered mugging him. Aparently he said " the rest won't be out until the nightclubs close..."

Well, out of 14 songs, there were 4 from the last album which is understandable, two from DAAD, two from midian, and one each from DAHE, and CATB, with the rest from Mini albums etc.
I suppose that they are wary of alienating the people who have supported them for a long time, but want to keep the new support that came into crale via the newer stuff.
It's a fine balance, which I think, given the last two sets, they got Correct.

The techniques he uses can actually paralyze your vocal chords, dissallowing you to make noise. The fact that he hasn't done it yet really surprises me.

These guys are my #4 favorite band, and Ollie is a total CoF fanboy. :)
I own almost everything by them. I'm only missing stuff like Live Bait and Lovecraft.
Great band really. Dani's voice may be off-putting at first, but the music is very good. The guitarists write and play some great riffs even if they aren't the most technical thing ever.
I'm not sure if they've ever done acoustic stuff though.

Cradle of Filth is a baddass band. I don't think i have yet to here a song that i don't like. Since this is true i'm not gonna list them all but the best i think...
Nympthetamine(overdose)
Dusk and her embrace

Cthulhu Dawn

They're not the worst of bands, but I hate the Dimmu Borgir/Cradle of Filth style of black metal. Also, I find them really gimmicky.
King_Of_Terrors
12-30-2005, 11:05 AM
What about Old Man's Child? I like them, you probably won't. COF is very different from Diimmu and OMC. CoF isn't really black metal at all.
Lord Abortion
12-30-2005, 11:08 AM
Yeah, they do alot of different stuff, but for me the thing that sets them apart from other bands that could be said to be musically similar (possibly Dimmu Borgir, Old Man's child, Graveworm) is the Camp English sense of humour that they have, the leather kilts, the song titles, the stageshow.
It's great, and a break from people in extreme music being so bloody serious all the time.
And Dani's vocals aswell, I was in the front row dead centre for the show in December, and he really does do that live, and the bit in Cthulhu Dawn was just as on the album...magnificent.
No, Cradle were black metal for the first couple of albums, and actually have a fairly good standing with the Norwegian Bands at the time, (fear of a black planet UK tour in '93 with Emperor, Dani's correspondance with Euronymous before he died) but neither are the other bands I mentioned.
I put them in "Extreme Gothic symphonic metal" seems the best description to me.)

16. It's right in my profile.
I heard about CoF from a friend at school. Good guy, especially since he's the only metalhead at my entire school.

Cradle is taking a riduculously long time to convert...
I like them. Their instrumental section is rather underrated...when Barker was drummer, he whipped out some absolutely crushing beats, and their guitarists do some beautiful harmonies.
