About Trevor saying the WTF riffs are Power Metal esque, that works for some songs, but what about Reminissions? That sounds more Melodeath, Desecrate Through Reverence is more Doomy, and then ...And All Things Will end is definately more thrashy than the rest... the only truly Power Metal esque guitarwork on that album is Second Heartbeat IMO.

So then if they have influences from basically ever metal subgenre, why not call them heavy metal? Goddamn you guys are picky.

i am the robots
11-15-2005, 08:53 PM
Heavy Metal would be something like Judas Priest or Maiden, something more along the lines of General Metal would work better IMO.

But STST and WTF were also Hardcore influenced (STST to a much greater degree).

EDIT: muahaha, you cannot escape my labeling Jake!!1

So I downloaded a powertab for Unholy Confessions. The intro riff has to be one of the coolest riffs ever. Wicked fun to play.

About Bat Country- Same here. Most of it is cake, but the solo is quite tricky at times. :-/

Does their drummer use a bass trigger by any chance? There are certain segments that would lead me to beleive so, so that's why I'm asking.
 Jake I had no idea that you liked A7X.

Wow, it's odd coming into this thread when every post I pretty much see is 'This band is (this) type of music" ... "No, They are (This) type of music".

It doesn't even matter much, just say "This is good metal music" it doesn't matter if it's death/thrash/hardcore/black/industrial/pop metal, just leave it METAL, instead of debating everything about genre's :p.

That's not the major reason, Martin Mendez from Opeth uses a Squire and you can hear him fine, it's actually just because they had crappy production on STST.

Genres are useful though, for finding other bands you might like.

Allthough true, you guys shouldn't debate on it so much. I swear everytime I entered this topic, I wanted to hear something interesting rather than what genre everyone thought they should be placed in. For me, I just say it's metal with a screaming vocalist....but don't disagree with me because I don't want to debate that with everyone.

Anyway, I have been getting more and more into them, which album would be the best to buy first? I think my cd store only has City of Evil, which I didn't care to much for. Any recommendations?

Nothing will last in this life,
our time is spent constructing,
now you're perfecting a world... meant to sin.
Constrict your hands around me,
squeeze till I cannot breathe,
this air tastes dead inside me,
contribute to our plague.
Break all your promises,
tear down this steadfast wall,
restraints are useless here,
tasting salvation's near.

For next time ;)

I'm downloading your gig now it's 41% of the way through.

Ok i watched it.

A) Awesome cover of Unholy confessions, very hard song, i thought you tackled it well
B) Your bassist needs to MOVE!! a little more
C) I diDn't know you were from the UK
D) I really liked your first song. As far as i'm aware it's an original... if so good job
E) You do the whole sing/play guiatr thing well
F) Your drummer is amazing, especially on UC
G) You're a good singer
H) You involved the audience at the start, well done

and

I) That dude who kept shouting 'Rock N Roll' was soooooo funny

Did you watch the whole thing? If so what did you think of the behind the head solo?

And yes, the vocals are very poor in that song, the problem is is that they have Shadows who doesn't even play anything and he struggles with the pitching in the chorus live.

Yes, he is a freaking great drummer, and the first song is ours.

They might be doing that so some of their more ignorent fans go to see them thinking that they are album perfect live, and besides, a lot of bands do that, and I'd rather have that then Arch Enemy's Nemesis video, total crap.

I watched the Bat Country video and I think they're great players but they're definitely not doing anything new. They seem to try to be reviving image-oriented metal with the technical aspects of Metallica. I've seen and heard it all, these guys are gonna go out quick.

nowitzki

You honestly have no idea. In what way do A7X use the technical aspects of Metallica? There are countless bands who make technical music, its nothing unique to Metallica. A lot of A7Xs material is much more complex than Metallica's anyway.

And I can certainly say you haven't seen and heard it all before, even if you have only heard Bat Country. Name one band that sounds like that? And then listen to Waking the Fallen, that album is like no one else.

i really like Avenged's new album, I saw them live in May and the sound was all fecked where i saw them so it didnt sound as good as it could of but it was fecking mental..

I think im starting to like City Of Evil more than Waking the Fallen, but some songs are crud on it... i cant stand M.I.A for some reason, but i think the guys' skills are shown far more on this album as its a clearer sound. Meh this might all sound like a bunch of sh!t to you lot but it made sense to me.

In short... a7x are sex, pure and simple

I don't like GnR or Velvet Revolver, so I wouldn't say he's the new Slash, but I get the point you're trying to make, and you very well may be right. :p With A7X recently breaking into the radio mainstream, he could become quite the renowned player within the next few years.

Hey all. I'm not really NEW to A7X, but I just started really liking them. I had Waking the Fallen, and I liked a couple songs despite the power-metal sound, but I just heard Bat Country a couple days ago and I can't stop listening to it. The song's so amazing and just gets my blood pumping, and it's just such a great song. I can't wait to listen to the rest of CoE and maybe go back and listen to WtF more closely.

So.....yeah. Don't really have a question or anything, just wanted to say that I like A7X now... lol

Oh yeah, I also have a question: What happened to Shadow's(?) voice that made it so he can't scream anymore. I have to admit I like screaming but I can deal either way.

when you do i suggest you listen to I Wont See You Tonight Part 1 off that album, it is amazing and has such an atmosphere with it, which you dont seem to get with many songs anymore, i guess i could liken it to Pantera-Cemetary Gates in that sense, but that would be my opinion and probably not everyone elses..

WHen I saw them they played Second Heartbeat, Burn It Down, Beast And The Harlot, Unholy Confessions, Strength Of The World, MIA, The Wicked End, Chapter Four, Bat Country, and Eternal Rest, and the guitarist played about 5 minutes of shred in the middle, it sucked they didn't play anything off of STST though.

That's the problem when a band gets signed to a major label, you get all the little poser kids who thinkthey know everything. You just ahve to remeber you've been with them from early on and when they lose their mainstream popualrity you'll still be there 100% behind them.

While that IS annoying, you don't have to be a douche about it. Not everyone picks up on bands as soon as they appear on the horizon. Tool is one of my favorite bands, but I hadn't heard any of their stuff until I bought Lateralus on a whim. Does that make me a "poser"? That I was 3 years old when they formed as a band, so I don't know about them?
I do agree that there are A LOT of posers that listen to this kind of music because it fits in with their "style" and not because they like the actual music. But still, for those who aren't in it for the style but are still genuinely asking if you've heard of them, you don't have to be a douche. For all you know, they could be just as excited about the band as you and want to introduce you to them, which would make you and them one and the same--A7X fans. Why would you be annoyed at that?

I think becuase they fit in with the music so well they just seemed normal. To be honest i don't see that much of a change anyway, if you listen to songs like IWSYT PT1 on WTF or Warmess on the Soul on STST where Shadows sings for the majority of the song the voclas on those sound the same to the ones on COE so he hasn't changed that much, if at all.

My girlfriend showed me this band, and right now I have been listening to a few songs here and there and I really want to buy one of their cd's because I think everything is pretty amazing from the songs I hear. How is that stupid that I like it because "other" people liked it before me?

What songs have you heard?

The songs I have heard
-I won't see you tonight part II
-Remenissions
-And all the things will end
-Bat Country

"And all the Things will End' is a great song, with an amazing solo. Something from listening to it, the solo starts off brilliant and then just looses everything near the end, it goes from an amazing solo to something that just starts to make you think "What the hell is this". I am pretty sure that was intended from the way the song ends, but yeah..

Bat Country I am sure I have heard or seen the video, but I am not sure if that was the one or if they had another single somewhere in there. The vocals are pretty odd, but not in such a good way. The solo is the thing that really stands out though. Not a bad song, but not the best either, great solo though.

A7X are getting really popular lately, but I can't complain. They are definitely an amazing band. Hopefully future material is watered down to make it sound more pop-esque.

Why would you want A7X to sound more "pop-esque". They may have moved to a major label, but I highly doubt we will see any 2-3 minute pop/rock songs from them anytime soon. If that did happen I would probably have to stab myself in the face:lol: I'm just looking foward to their next album already. I just can't wait to see where this band is going in the future. Oh and by the way, I think WTF> COE and COE=STST even though they are completley different styles. They are all amazing albums though

Drunken Viking
11-28-2005, 08:30 PM
What, record or do the tracks, to record we could use Audacity, and to do everything else we do this, I get someone to program the drums, then we send it to the bass, then guitar, then guitar, then me, or whatever order you want. We don't have to do this, I thought it would be kinda fun.
