i enjoy their older stuff as well, but i think city of evil was a nice change.

i'll still buy their new album.

how do you go from opeth to avenged sevenfold?? i thought someone like you would know better..

Riziger
10-22-2007, 01:57 AM
haha it's the other way around. a7x to opeth.

well it's 2 totally different styles... but yea a7x are kinda starting to wear off a little.

i'll see if i still like them after this album.

i dont think this album will be very good. i heard one of their new songs, and they lost everything that made them good. theyve gone way too mainstream now. D@MN A7X!

not as much as they are now. they used to scream, and put some d@mn umph into their singing, and the new song i heard was all clean vocals.

They were popular when their first album came out. Thats how it was at my high school at least. Screaming is mainstream for their genre, even a few years ago.

I've got the whole album.

I'd give it 8/10.

It's far from being "mainstream". Folks that have judged this album by hearing one song have another thing coming. The album is much more polished the City of Evil. M. Shadows sounds awesome.. the guitars sound absolutely massive.

Without giving to much away, you'll hear string sections, horn sections and even... some country though out this album.

Yes.

Country.

good album :thumb:

Listening to A Little Piece of Heaven right now.

Hopefully it'll pick up, because this is utter ****, and this is coming from a major A7X fanboy who defends all their stuff to the best of my ability.

I've liked the songs they released.

A Little Piece of Heaven made me want to cry.

Dear God wasn't that great.

I'm listening to Lost and it's pretty cool.

11-01-2007, 01:54 PM
Anybody bought the album yet?

I picked it up on Tuesday and I like it.

Still doesn't top WtF or StST, but I like it better than CoE. It's completely different than their other stuff, and different from most stuff I hear.

A Little Piece of Heaven is still the worst song on the album, but it's growing on me a little bit.

I like it.
People who hate all their other stuff probably aren't going to like this either, and the change in style will probably lose them fans like CoE did, but I think it's a pretty good album.

Its true. I've learned on here that no matter what you say and/or how good of a point you make, you'll have 10 people disagree with you.

One time I argued with 15 people that just because you tune a 1/2 step lower and play a song 10 beats a minute slower doesn't make it a different song. That'd be like me and my band trying to release Master of Puppets in a different tuning and played slightly faster and saying, "No, its my song, I wrote it."

So yeah, some people on here are mentally retarded, seriously. You just have to get used to it.

I just want to corect myself cause I said Shanna Crooks sings in Unbound and A little piece of heaven, but it isn't right so.. She sings in Gunsligner and Dear God.. in Unbound it's Annmarie Rizzo and in A little piece of heaven it's Juliette Commagere.

So it's Annmarie Rizzo I don't like lol

No they didn't. Bash them all you want but they were never generic...

Not quite generic, but not the most unique and creative band out there. They wrote catchy metal songs and now they write catchy hard rock songs.

Tillius

They're not original enough to be called groundbreaking or anything like that but they certainly are not generic.

yeah, while they are competent enough musicians I wouldn't call them generic either

Aaron

They've stolen too much from past musicians for them to have their own identify pigeon-holed. They're a GNR cover band doing originals.

Well, here is my view on A7X since I am new and haven't posted here yet.

STST - An OK album, but I'm not into metalcore too much so it wasn't my favorite.

WTF - I liked this album less than STST for some reason, just wasn't good enough IMO

COE - In my opinion, this is easily their best album. A lot of Iron Maiden & GNR influence here, and I am more into bands like that than hardcore/metalcore stuff

AS - It was OK, definetly more experimental. But truthfully I think they are definetly going too mainstream. The songs on this album are a lot more simple than the songs on COE, and while they are catchy, I just don't get the same epic feeling from them as I do when I listen to COE

City Of Evil is my least favorite album of theirs. It's a bunch of GnR wannabe crap. WtF and s/t are much better. StST has 3 or so really cool songs on it.

SchizoPhobic

I can see the GnR/Iron Maiden influence in them a lot, which is why I like COE. I am more into traditional metal like GnR or Iron Maiden.

To me, screamo/metalcore just doesn't cut it. STST and WTF had good songs, but were boring overall IMO.

Dimmu Burger
01-07-2009, 08:57 AM
I feel the exact opposite way. CoE was boring and StST and WtF were good, and not screamo or metalcore. It's just quasi epic metal IMO. S/T is catchy as balls.

In spite of M. Shadows awful vocals, their blatantly GN'R inspired cheese-ballads and their ridiculous image, I think that City Of Evil is a musically excellent album. Waking the Fallen is pretty solid too. Their new one is garbage, and their pre-Waking the Fallen material is also shitty and poorly put together.

Ah, there you go. Someone who agrees

Of course they have that over-the-top style and look, but it just shows that they paid attention to their influences. Remember in the 80s when all of the hair metal bands dressed like fags? Well, A7X is sorta like that (only more emo-fied.... which sucks since I hate emos)

Of course, unlike most of those 80s hair bands (or new emo bands), though, A7X makes up for the cheesey look with great songwriting. COE is an epic album, whether you admit it or not.

And the only cheesey ballad on the album is Seize The Day, really. The rest of the songs are either A) Heavy/Thrashy stuff or B) Softer stuff that is well planned out and melodic, instead of sappy and overly emotional

This band ended when Shadows decided to start singing in his whiny tone all the time. IMO they could have pulled off what Trivium did a lot better....Shadows sounded awesome in the early days doing the "Hetfield voice".

01-08-2009, 02:17 AM
WTF was solid, but fairly simple. That didn't really detract from the album though. CoE was awesome imo, got attached to a lot of the songs for a long time. S/T was catchy enough but forgettable...first post..hai there.

WtF is the only album with songs I can enjoy. Radiant Eclipse is probably my favorite, Second Heartbeat is good, and And All Things Will End had it's moments, but the rest are just ok. Other albums should be ignored, except for maybe StST, but I never really gave that much of a chance yet so idk.

Thats the only thing I can think of that sounds even remotely Hetfield from him

I really enjoy their new album, I just don't think it's their best. The only album of theirs that I don't still immensely enjoy is CoE. I still like it, it's just not the brilliance I used to think it was.

I look at my review of it on here and chuckle.
