This was possible because I know he joined the band a little after they start. They release STST 2 times, the second with Syn in.

Wikipedia says :
"Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is Avenged Sevenfold (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avenged_Sevenfold)'s first full-length album. It was originally released in 2001 on Good Life Recordings (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Good_Life_Recordings&action=edit), a Belgian record company. It was then re-issued in 2002 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sounding_the_Seventh_Trumpet_Re-Release) by Hopeless Records (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hopeless_Records)"
The 2nd release was probably just a promotional thing decided by the record label.

"It's just going to be gritty," Shadows said of the new record. "We want it to be a cool record, not some polished crap just 'cause we've got a couple songs on the radio now. No one needs it to be like that. We're going to do the exact opposite."
That alone makes me happy :D
CityOfEvil
03-06-2007, 05:56 PM
Maybe its because Im french but I dont understand
The opposite of what?
AA-12
03-06-2007, 06:05 PM
Opposite of music all polished and radio friendly.

Well that sound good :D
Can't wait to the album be release. Im sure it will be good. Hope that Matt could have scream in it.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh your french. it all makes sense now. should have guessed you were french canadian when it says your from montreal. didnt put it together though because when i went to montreal all french canadians were pricks to me cuz im westcoast (vancouver), and you didnt seem like a complete quebecois ****head.
and also about half way up the last page someone said syns dad played all acoustic guitar on CoE, but thats not true. he only plays the first half of the sidewinder solo, the second half is syn, and im pretty sure its syn at the end of MIA too - not positive but pretty sure.
and its mostly shadows in the WotS video because syn and JC werent in the band at that point. all lead was done by zacky on STST too.
CityOfEvil
03-06-2007, 10:54 PM
Well now you got it ;)
For Syn's dad, I watch a video and they said, if I remember well, he's the one who play almost all acoustic part. It was in "made of Bat Country video".
Im not sure that they said that or just he makes some song. Well, if you can find it watch it.
DKMode
03-07-2007, 03:57 AM
ya ive seen the video, but something in the back of my head tells me that i heard somewhere that the second half of sidewinder is syn. for some reason i think that brian haner sr did all acoustic work before CoE, but syn did alot of it on CoE. i could be very wrong though, and correct me if i am, but for some reason i remember hearing that somewhere
SynGates
03-07-2007, 06:36 AM
Ok guys, I'll clear things up with Syn's dad....
He played:
End of "Blinded in Chains"
Middle and end of "Bat Country" (slow parts)
All acoustic on "Sieze the Day" and electric rythm
End of "Sidewinder" (rythm and FIRST solo) doesnt say anything about 2nd
All acoustic and pedal steel on "Strength of the World"
Vocal Backup on "MIA"
There you go. Don't believe me? www.carneyman.com/id15.html

Thanks man. Now we know what we want to know I think.
I thought he was doing like everything.

That's still pretty much everything but the 2nd solo on Sidewinder and MIA though?
CityOfEvil
03-07-2007, 10:08 AM
I think the only way to find it its to search. Because it seem that nobody know it.
But if on the site he doesnt say he play it maybe he doesnt play it.
Happy
03-07-2007, 10:10 AM
And another thing, if he played acoustic and rhythm on Seize the day does that mean Zacky played none of it?
CityOfEvil
03-07-2007, 10:16 AM
That would be surprising. Maybe they have 2 rhythm on this song.
But in the video we can see, when he's in jail all the band is behind him.. if I remember Zacky is there.
Happy
03-07-2007, 10:22 AM
Yeah but syn's dad's not in the video and he played on it ;)

I have a tab of Sidewinder. And I dont know if its what you are talking about but at the end, the acoustic part, Brian Haner does the first part and Syn the second.

03-08-2007, 12:11 AM
just to let you guys know, in bands where there are 2 guitar players, alot of the time only one of them will record on certain tracks. im sure there are quite a few songs where zacky plays nothing, and even some where zacky plays everything except the lead. if a guitar player writes something, its much easier for them to play everything than to try and teach someone else how it should sound.
and looks like i was right about sidewinder and MIA.............i woulda liked like quite the idiot if i wasnt. phew

Wow, it really sounds like they have refused to let their success threaten the quality of their music (to harp back to an old discussion). Pretty cool really. I hope they release another masterpeice.
CityOfEvil

I have no worry the next album will be excellent. I would like an album like a mix of WtF and CoE. Like some tracks scream and others not.

He can probably, but I doubt he will.
CityOfEvil
03-08-2007, 01:40 PM
Hope he will for at least one or two songs. I love when he screams :p
SynGates
03-08-2007, 02:31 PM
I really highly doubt he will scream b/c even if he can, he will still never do it again live, and it would be poor to have to rewrite vocal lines and make the songs sound all different live.
I would like an album like a mix of WtF and CoE. Like some tracks scream and others not.
I actually thought about this, and I have to say, I wouldn't like some songs to be pure singing and some to be more screaming. If you think about it, if that is the case, then you will pick favorites way too much and some songs will stand out more than others. Whereas CoE and WtF followed the same vocal patterns throughout, and every single track from both albums blow you away. So I'd say, either screaming on most, if not all tracks, or no screaming at all.
DKMode
03-09-2007, 04:22 PM
i dont think there will be any screaming, unless the song absolutely calls for it. i really could care less whether he screams or not, im pretty impartial to it, i just hope his voice has a little more power and is less nasally than on CoE.
CityOfEvil
03-09-2007, 07:09 PM
Even if it was nasally it was good. Well, I like it.
But Im sure that with or without screaming the next album will be as good as the others.
Hate Crew Deathroll
03-09-2007, 09:03 PM
There might not be "screaming" but his still does that forced distorted shouts that sound really cool. It's still his chest voice but he's pushing to the top of his range and it starts to crack and he keeps it there. I love it.

This.
As long as his voice improves from CoE, I'm cool with the lack of screaming.

It could just be because Pantera is mediocre at best.
And Slayer, I just don't see the fascination in them. "Oooh. Oooh. We'll just put such a HUGE emphasis on how Satanic we are. Maybe that will draw attention away from our terrible music. Yeah." \m/
And Metallica, well, if somebody who was newly getting into metal started listening to Metallica's newer stuff....they're likely gonna get turned off because they're new stuff just blows.
Nothing against Maiden though. They're just amazing.

Meh, agree to disagree?(except for the comment about It Dies today. They blow.)
CoE has an incredible amount of talent that went into it. The guitar riffs in some parts were amazing, the drums went together perfectly with it, and while Matt's vocals got terribly annoying in some parts, they were amazing in others.
The Wicked end, for example.
Slayer has some great music, I'll give them that, but as soon as that annoying douche lead singer of theirs opens his mouth and "sings" into that microphone...I feel like slitting my wrists.

I didn't watch the video but usually when guitarists/bassists do that, it's to stop open strings ringing out. The guitarist/vocalist from Arsis uses one when he plays live and is arguably "bad" because you're not teaching yourself to mute properly.
I don't know if it's really that necessary for an acoustic though unless you suck pretty hard.

I never saw them but I want to. The moment there in my city I go to thw show. I watched videos on youtube too but like the 3/4 of them are by a guy at the show.. its never good when its like that. I hope tour dates will be avalaible soon,
I love their Cd too. I have them all and there is not one I dont like. My favorite is Waking the Fallen. That one is amazing.

04-18-2007, 08:01 PM
Yea waking the fallen is deffinatly the best. That cd captures a lot of emotion for me... Yea i've see real like.... fuse and mtv videos of live a7x and it still seemed off. I saw one video where the bass was turned up WAY to loud, and johnny christ decided it was a good idea to slap the entire concert. It sounded so bad...... couldn't even hear the guitar. (he's not a very good bassist..... but the the rest of the band makes up for it)
CityOfEvil
04-18-2007, 08:08 PM
Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is awesome too.
Well I look at the bass tabs and Johnny Christ is good IMO.
My favorite in the band is Syn no doubt about it. His solos are amazing I love them.
For the live thing.. all I saw is gay videos so I can't say its good or bad. But I love A7X too much to dislike them live or not loll
RIPkezia
04-18-2007, 08:11 PM
True. You can't deny their studio music is amazing. I personally think both syn and the rev are amazing. I play bass, and i can tell you that most stuff johny christ does is fairly simple compared to other bassists. But then again, most metal bass lines are boring....
CityOfEvil
04-18-2007, 08:15 PM
My friend play bass too and he find it hard.. but my friend sucks
Don't know if you play giutar too but I do and Syn's stuff is not always easy.. solos are like too much for me. Im like  how can he do that?!
Except solos I can play the much of it.

04-18-2007, 08:21 PM
Yea, I don't play much guitar (chords arn't my thing) but I can spot a good guitarist when I see one. My band's singer/guitarist refuses to play metal though, so I don't play a7x that much anymore though.

In mine the bassist can't learn a song by heart.. he always need the computer so.. I play A7X when Im alone. When we play all together we play our songs that are not so bad for young guys like us.
But songs I play are like more than the 3/4 from A7X. Its not been a year since I play guitar so I learned with them :p

It's the Rev and Syns side project. The Rev sings and plays drums/piano, and Syn plays guitar. It's a lot different than A7x, but they're still ok. Also, the Mr. Bungle influence is almost overwhelming, so don't expect straightforward rock/metalcore whatever.

Biggest pet peeve: When a band that could be really good just completely screws up. This band would be one of my favorites if they changed three things: Vocals (the style or the vocalist, either or), appearance, ego. It's so little but it's done so much.
I'm confident that the album rating for City of Evil would be at least a half-point higher w/ these changed.

Two reasons its awful:
1. I've heard a lot of the riffs other places, and none of them are very good
2. Matt's voice is weaker than weak.
Shattered_Future
09-30-2007, 06:36 PM
That, and the drum triggers annoy the living hell out of me. That album must have the worst drum tone I've ever heard.
DerMond
09-30-2007, 08:37 PM
Persoanlly, i think CoE isn't only a good disc, but it's their only good disc.
Matt's vocals jsut take getting used to, and the drum tone never bothered me. what annoyance his nasal tone gave me was outdone by the Danny Elfman style breakdown on The Wicked End. Sidewinder's brillaintly twisty-turny, especially that lovable flaminco solo, and Strength Of The World's just great retro metal (with a decent storyline, no less!).
i mean, it's no masterpiece, but it's better than the other 2.

I'd prefer to never listen to any metalcore ever again, thanks. I'll take my Iron Maiden EP's, thanks. even if their new work's just a pale imitation of better, older music, i'd take something cool and derivative over something dumb and original. come to think of it their metalcore stuff was always pretty derivative.
i am the robots
09-30-2007, 08:49 PM
A lot of metalcore is very derivative, but there's A LOT of great metalcore. Examples: Converge, Skycamefalling, Aftershock, Botch, Overcast, This Runs Through, Dead Man In Reno, Integrity, Fjord, Kiss It Goodbye, etc.

Poorly written? What kind of example is that? Theres not that big of a problem with the drum tone. Wanky? Please explain. I thought it was fairly original to be honest...but ill give you the vocal tone one lol.

If by fairl original you meant, "packed full of every generic '80s' sounding riff possible," then I completely agree.

Looks like we don't agree then. And seriously....whats the deal with this forum and the use of the term 'generic'? I swear every single band on the face of the planet is considered generic here.

That really isn't true at all. There's some cool stuff on City of Evil, theres actually one guitar solo that I'd say is just as good as any other guitar solo I've ever heard...so there obviously is some decently written stuff on this album.
The main reason I bought this album, and then after two months threw it in the snow at tried to break it by throwing tires at it was because in my opinion its whiny, cheesy, and limp wristed metal.
Avenged Sevenfold to me are easily comparable to The Backstreet boys Musically. The Backstreet Boys have really good, well written songs, that appeal to many people, and I used to like a lot of their songs when I was 12 years old. I probably would sing a long to their songs if I heard them on the radio, but I can't get ANYTHING out of their music nowadays that sticks with me.
Im not saying AX7 sounds like the backstreet boys, Im saying on my musical journey I like both these bands for a brief period, and then realized they do nothing for me, and moved on.

The solos are just wanky, not well written. Now In Flames has good solos.

I use the term generic when I talk about bands because probably 95% of all bands are generic. Generic when applied to musical terms for me means bands that do not have any defining characteristics. Just because a band is generic doesn't necessarily mean they suck.
For example, Unearth is a VERY generic band, but I think they rock.
Opeth, Tool, Mastodon, and The Minutemen are all examples of bands that have defining characteristics about them, that make them easily identifiable.
Being Unique can be bad also. For example, both Dave Mustaine and Randy Blythe have very unique sounding vocals, but some people cannot stand these vocalists.

Thats my point....people use the term Generic to put down a band when there are tones of good generic bands.I could make a song that went for 45 minutes and consisted of me hitting a trash can with a stick, and that wouldnt be very generic....but id sure as **** rather listen to COE than that.

I use generic to describe things as commercialized and emotionless.

After the singers stupid comments about dillinger last year I think (or maybe the year before), I never really bothered with them masquerading about with their fashion labels and goofy names etc.

I just saw a video on youtube that a friend sent me with sound clips from all the songs on the new album, and I gotta say... at first I was gonna buy it and try it out, but now I'm pretty sure I'm just going to walk past it at the store and laugh sadly to myself.

haven't heard anything yet from the new album except for a live video of the new song they played in singapore and tbh, i didn't really like it, sounded a tad boring.
could be the video quality also. i'm still gonna buy the new album regardless.

I enjoy their older stuff, but not City Of Evil all that much. The new song sounds promising to me, the one with the video on headbangers ball.
