Good news!
Huntington Beach, CA quintet Avenged Sevenfold M. Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, Johnny Christ, and The Reverend have announced cancellation of tour dates. The band will not be playing scheduled UK fall datesor their winter U.S. tour in favor of entering the recording studio.
Avenged Sevenfold hopes fans will not be let down, but rather will look forward to seeing them back on the road with new songs to share. The band have been writing songs for their forthcoming album, and are eager to work on a forthcoming album.
Singer M. Shadows explains the bands decision, We love our loyal fans and want to continue giving them the freshest, most awesome show and material possible. Weve been playing songs from City of Evil around the world for 15 months and now feel its time to bring them something new. Were honored by the growing audiences wanting to see our show, but feel an obligation to our fans to always give them the best we have to offer. Weve started writing and cant wait for our fans to hear what were working on
Avenged Sevenfold has been named by Alternative Press the new face of metal, and Kerrang! calls the gold-certified City of Evil, an unequivocal triumph.technically dazzling, fiendishly inventive, and wholly distinct from everything else youll hear this year.
Avenged Sevenfold have spent the last year touring non-stop behind City of Evil, which also spawned the adrenalized hits Bat Country and Beast and the Harlot. They completed a spring U.S. arena tour and several European dates with personal heroes Guns N' Roses and Metallica. M. Shadows currently graces the cover of Revolver Magazine alongside James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich of Metallica. The band most recently finished up a run as a mainstage headliner on Ozzfest.

i cant wait for the new CD. i read an interview where syn and zacky said that they "dont want to give up too much information about the new record, but it will be something that the fans wont expect to hear". i dont know what the **** that means but im stoked as hell to find out.
i got another question too that hopefully someone can help clear up for me. for the past 2 years or so everyones been saying that there isnt screaming anymore because shadows popped a blood vessel in his throat. i personally am happy he doesnt scream anymore. however ive recently read 2 interviews with the rev where he says matt is just as capable of screaming as he used to be, he just doesnt want to. anyone know the truth?

Matt did burst a blood vessel because he used improper tecnique while screaming on Waking the Fallen and Sounding The Seventh Trumpet. He got surgery done on that, but with City Of Evil the band has decided they do not want screaming to be a part of their sound, at all.
C'mon, who didn't expect me to know/answer that immediately.

I personally feel that A7X sounds slightly better when there's no excessive screaming. I like it when he's on the brink of screaming but dosnt. It takes them out of the generic metalcore genre. Some songs were good on the past two albums tho. lol but all the elitists will call them sell-outs and what-not. how do they perform songs from the past two albums live? without the screaming? that would be good interesting and probably pleasing..
anyway, looking forward to their next album. I think i might actually buy it. with CoE, got too many songs b4 getting the album and i'm still not sure whether i should get it...
thx for the vid btw, good watch.

i only ended up buying CoE sometime last week. i thought i would be tired of it by now but its been in my cd player in my car ever since i bought it. i agree that his best voice is the in between scream/sing thing he does. it just seems so powerful. my favorite song vocally is his clean parts in chapter 4. in the second pre chorus i guess when he says unholy night i still get chills. same with the chorus in radiant eclipse.

for christ sake it's not actaully that hard to learn how to scream, all you have to do is download the Mellissa cross Zen of screaming DvD:smoke:
Seriously though didn't he ever notice his voice was hoarse at the end of a show?? And he was doing it for about 3-4 years!
Drunken Viking
09-25-2006, 05:47 PM
Yeah, but most people don't know that much about "The art of screaming", or at least not enough to know when you're doing it right or wrong. Also, i know people who scream incorrectly and they don't feel a thing, Shadows had SOME technique so it didn't sound completely horrible and didn't hurt as much.

WTF was hardly metalcore. STST was.
that is a very valid point. i didnt really mean that WTF was metalcore, i just meant that theyve distanced themselves quite a ways from their first 2 albums, so they defintely wont be going back in that direction. i guess i worded it wrong and you caught me.

DKMode
10-05-2006, 11:57 PM
i know they arent gonna disappoint me, but i really have absolutely no clue on what to expect out of it. that will be amazing though if they do a record that leads to a new genre of music (that is until its played to death by copycat bands). for some reason i still get upset hearing them talk about good charlotte. to me the 2 bands should not be mentioned in the same sentence. good charlotte are just a bunch of no talent whiny emo bitches, A7X seem too cool for them.
also, i was reading the trivium article today in the new revolver, and i cant help but notice that trivium seem to be following in avenged sevenfolds footsteps very closely. now they have abandoned screaming and matt heafy is working with the same vocal coach shadows had. i was wondering if the 2 bands were friends a7x convinced them to do this, or if you think trivium is just sensing that a7x is on to something and they want to jump on the bandwagon while its still early?
Drunken Viking
10-06-2006, 12:05 AM
Please, for the love of god don't call GC emo. Pop Punk =/= Emo. And Trivium aren't copying A7X, they're copying Metallica. Just listen to The Crusade, it sounds exacty like Metallica.
DKMode
10-06-2006, 12:29 AM
i know theyre trying to emulate metallica, i was just saying its a pretty big coincidence that a year after a7x stop screaming, they do, and in order to learn how to sing properly, heafy went to the same guy as shadows did. i just thought it was a little too much to not inquire about. and i dont really care what good charlotte actually are, emo, pop punk.........regardless they still suck major pipe.
Happy
10-06-2006, 09:36 AM
I'd say A7X try and emulate G n R more.

i said that trivium are emulating metallica, not a7x. as far as a7x goes though, i get a mixture of GnR and maiden, but this has been talked about to death so hopefully this is the end of it.
also i have a little more faith in a7x than SoaD to make a record that is actually listenable. i think what shadows means by it will be something noone has ever heard before is that it will be just a more evolved sound. on CoE they really found their sound i think, and now theyre just gonna tweak it here and there until it is 100% original. just my thoughts.

I was reading the article on zacky and syn in the british guitar mag Total Guitar today, and when the topic of the new CD was brought up, they said that it is most likely going to be heavier than CoE. they said they were really into classic stuff when they recorded Coe, but at this time theyre all into heavy **** like Pantera, so it will probably turn out like a mixture of CoE and WtF. just thought everyone would like to know.
Drunken Viking
10-12-2006, 02:47 AM
Hmm, they were really big on Pantera pre-CoE, so that's weird, and they also said that they were gonna make something totally new so I'm kinda confused.

It wont be someone no-one has done before, but I can see them doing something pretty different to their older stuff, particularly considering how theyve evolved from STST to COE. Hopefully Synester and Zacky continue playing crazy guitar lines.

I've been to two shows they were playing at. Left before they came on the first time because I was there to see Death By Stereo and they came on first so I couldn't be bothered to hang around. I saw them a few months later at it was awful. Granted I don't like them, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and a chance, but they sucked. As long as their new album sounds similar to WtF and CoE, I'll be satisfied.
I'd love for it to have the clean vocals from WtF and the instrumentation of both CoE and WtF.
(The only reason I haven't mentioned StST is because I don't own it.)

Avenged Sevenfold have basically been going downhill. Sounding The Seventh Trumpet was a hardhitting metalcore album that while it had it's cheese, was really a great, solid album. Waking The Fallen took a drastic step away from metal and is obviously a weaker album in my eyes. It's still repsectable but it didn't touch STST. The new stuff is really lame in my opinion, I see no progression from WTF. I'm not even going to look for elements of STST anymore cause I realize that they are not going to go back to being a metalcore band. But even with that said, the tracks from City Of Evil are lame and definitely weaker than WTF. I'll still buy the album but at this pace, A7X will never top STST or even at this point, WTF.

You may have heard about it, but Good Charlotte and members of Avenged Sevenfold have collaborated on an upcoming single.
The fluff-punk outfit teamed with Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows and Synyster Gates for "The River," which is set to be the lead single from Good Charlotte's fourth effort, Good Morning Revival. The collaboration marks the first time the punk-pop outfit's gone tag-team with other rockers for a track.
"We've been friends with Avenged for a longtime. This wasn't planned, but it ended up working out", singer Joel Madden said in a statement. "We were sitting around listening to some new music and they liked that song so we asked them to jump on. It felt right and sounded really cool. Aside from being friends of ours, we're also fans of their music and since this is our first collaboration, we couldn't be happier that they're a part of our record."

I like all this song too. My favorite at the moment is Wont see you tonight part 1. I like to play it, the guitar is so good.

I've never actually payed attention to no. 1. I only know no. 2 because my friend had it on his mp3 player and I was listening to it to see how much A7X sucked but I ended up loving it, along with Chapter Four.

Really, I thought that too, that he couldn't scream anymore. That would be awesome if there was screaming on the next CD, but I doubt that would happen.

I'd love it if he could go back to some screaming in their next album...hopefully.

I like that distorted shout he does, that's ****ing awesome. That nearly sounds like a scream.

I don't know loathed, City Of Evil > their other albums.
Their earlier work feels pretty generic to me.

Im a lil nit lost. Youre talking about HE cant or can scream. Talking about Shadow or the guy in the video of Eleventeen on the page 224.
I think I miss something

It's generic yes, but bad no. City of Evil wasn't bad, it was just to far of an adjustment so quickly. I personally am no longer a fan, but I will admit it's a decent album musically. Just nothing to get all hyped over, and realy it's kinnda boring. Their older stuff was to, I just was able to tolerate it more.

Honestly, Avenged Sevenfold is one of the most original bands i've ever heard, and I've heard a ton of strange music. No one even comes close to their sound.

I agree somewhat. I would say that COE was pretty original, but as I said, I don't think their earlier work is. But that's just my opinion. :\

yea, i like CoE alot as well, but it was more of a grower. Hopefully their new album has the musicianship of CoE, and abit of the raw and powerful screaming from WTF era.

they are very original as far as what is coming out today, but definitely not of all time. as far as that goes i would have to direct you to basically anything Mike Patton has ever been a part of (maybe excluding faith no more). mr bungle, fantomas, and tomahawk are all one of a kind, and while i dont like it as much as a7x, it is extremely original. i would also put tool at the top too cuz noone has been able to even come close to matching their sound in 15 years, but thats for another thread. anyways, super stoked for the new album, and i have a feeling there will be some screaming if the song calls for it. i hope its heavier than CoE too.

This.
I mean, I listened to CoE for the first time in a very long time yesterday, and the music is awesome. Sidewinder, The Beast and the Harlot, etc. etc. All great. And while I don't complain as much about the vocals as some, they still just don't compare to WtF.
Old vocals, current music, and the next album should be solid.

Uhmm... they're definately not original, but they're quite unique... they do something similar to what other bands have done, but they keep their own sound often enough.... though at certain points I've nearly blatant ripping off of Metallica, Norma Jean, and Guns N Roses.
I'd say my favorite A7X song would be We Come Out At Night.
City of Evil is Velveeta metal, it's so ****ing cheesey, and it's so over produced.

What, I hear none of those bands in their music...They dress like GnR but don't at any point sound like them

ya i really dont hear very much metallica or norma jean in their music. if anyone i would say iron maiden, but even then its a stretch. i can see where some people are coming from with the GnR comparisons but i think thats mostly just because syns style is kinda similar to slashs.
