Beast and the Harlot ftw.

Screw that song... unless you would allow me to maybe try out some harsh vocals for the verses, just to see if I could write a fitting vocal line?
Come one, testing new things is fun, and changing songs to make them more unique for covers is awesome.

I think it sounds pretty cool when he goes really high, but it's still powerful and so it kidna sounds like a scream, but it's not.
He does that weird accent thing on Beast and the Harlot too.

There's a text tab on MX for Beast and the harlot that I learned off a long time ago. The intro was correct.
EDIT: Lemme find the link.
Try this and tell me what ya think (http://mxtabs.net/tab_versions.php?path=Guitar,a,7891,Avenged+Sevenf old,Beast+And+The+Harlot,206596)

Oh no, I meant the drum track. I don't think I'm playing any instruments on this, but it I'm doing the drum programming apparantly.
If it comes out ok, I'll probably record my own version anyway.
But I probably will try transcribe the solos myself too because that txt tab looks like it was extracted from a powertab/guitar pro file, and I don't think any of them have the solos 100%.

Yeah. I never played the solos. Basically everything except the solos. It wasn't that hard either. I played it when I'd played for like uggh I think 1 yearish or less

Burn It Down..... That lead riff is hard.

If you mean the harmonized the bit at the beginning, then I think that's easy.
I mean the solo that sounds hard. Synyster Gates is one of those fast sloppy players that pulls it off, but it makes it hard for us to copy because it's not 100% accurate in the first place. I think he uses economy picking alot too.
The solo bit is around 3:41.

I dunno about the cover, I'm apparantly in charge of drum programming but I got annoyed with the tom sounds the other week. It just doesn't sound like the song at all without any of the instruments behind it so it's hard to tell if it sounds good or not.

Because it's got that November Rain sort of Guns N Roses feel that people who are put off by their image from previous singles and the sound will listen to. Plus it's not very heavy so radio stations that are even more mainstream than the ones they were played on before will have no qualms about playing the single.
I think it's a good song.
It's up on their myspace again now by the way.

I hate everything about that song. First off, it reminds me of GnR (which is bad). Shadows' voice is terribly whiny throughout most of the song, especially the bridge. Probably the whiniest on the album. And it also comes across as the obligatory power ballad that some bands put on the album for radio play, and that just bugs me. On top of that, the chorus harpoons into my head any time I listen to it, making me hear it for the rest of the day, reminding me why I hate it so much.
I really don't see what you guys like about the song, but whatever it is more power to ya. I personally just skip track 6 on the rare occasion I listen to CoE, and I'm not looking forward to 3+ months of heavy airplay of it.

Obviously, I didn't read all this thread, but I'm going to give my opinion on the band. Woot.
I've heard some of their 'older' stuff (I don't really know much about them, to be honest), I have Waking The Fallen and a few songs from other albums, which I like a good deal. I heard some of the new album (w/o screaming) and I just kind of hated it. I thought it was strange that Avenged Sevendfold was on the warp tour until I heard some of the new songs. The screaming + singing was a very effective contrast. Now, he sings and does some kind of punk whine I think. Definitely not my style.
Interesting event: I heard one song on SIRIUS that was just kind of funny. It started with a palm muted open part that sounded death metal-y and almost reminded me of Decapitated a little. Then, all of a sudden, it turned into some kind of insanely happy, upbeat solo with almost no transition. Then it went into the punky voice and not-coolness that I am disappointed with. Too bad. Now I'm thinking I'll have to go buy some more old albums. Or download some to punish them for selling out (IMO).
¡Adios!

the weird thing is that ive seen alot of their live videos and this is the first time ive noticed the backup vocals being off. its understandable that they dont sound exactly like the album seeing as their is so many different backup melodies, but they should try and figure something else out. shadows was very true to the recordings live though so thats good.

Especially when your trashing on a band. Some threads of bands I cant stand here. But I stay respectful to others musical tastes and just stay out. Otherwise Id just make a dick out of myself.
Oh and yes. The BG vocals are off.

Their live tone is awful though.
On the walk cover. They weren't tuned right. Dimebag tuned 1/4 step down off any tuning he played in.
So a7x prolly just stayed in DADGBE and didn't tune the 1/4 step down.

It really does make a difference. But I do think that their live tone is pretty much almost as good as dimebags recording tunes.

Well I'd much rather watch them being "guitar heroes" than just standing their in a shirt and smart trousers or whatnot. Running around and doing guitar poses is what being a performer is about. The sound for that gig wasn't their fault though.

Heh, I doubt they wish they were GnR, disbanded and pathetic. But I do agree with MRuDuCran about the whole guitar heroes thing. But the majority of bootlegs and when I saw them they were still really good, every band has there off nights. Just look at the entire Live In San Diego Concert minus the solo from Synyster. Pretty damn good. Or the Live At The Marquee bootleg on Google Video, again really good.

My biggest problem with them being influenced by GnR is that the vocals are becoming Axl Rose style, and while Shadows had good tone on WTF his tone is slipping towards the more nasal and raw Axl style.
Axl has good range, and a reasonably powerful voice, it's just that his timbre is terrible.

I like both Shadows' harsh and clean voice. I think that half distorted shout he does it great.
I do agree about Axl's timbre though, it's so whiney but yeah amazing range and power. He has alot of endurance/stamina too, especially running all over the place like that. You can kinda see it in Matt a little bit too. I'd say he was probably my fave band member, although I'm not a vocalist, I love watching him perform.

¡Adios!

I've heard them talk about it once before, I saw the videos on Youtube; They had like the name of the song, in their font and everything; It looked professional. I haven't heard anything since.

No screaming anymore, he injured himself by doing that so now he keeps it clean.
They played Unholy Confessions when I saw them this year.
Bat Country, Burn it Down, a guitar solo, a Pantera cover and I think Eternal Rest.
So 1 or 2 off of Waking the Fallen.
BUT that was a festival where they had limited time, I have no idea what they play if they're headlining.

That Pantera cover doesn't work. They didn't tune 1/4 down off DADGBE as Dime did. It sounds close but weird. (Tuning wise) It was good other than that though.

You write the strings the wrong way round, and you also tabbed it harder than it could be.
Sweep Picking:
E-13-10-----------10--
B-------10------10----
G---------10--10------
D-----------12---------
String Skipping:
E-13-10---------------10--

From the 'Curse of Caine' in genesis. As part of his curse, God states that should anyone harm Caine, he will be Avenged Sevenfold.

Going to the Cardiff one. I love the Students union it's so small your right by the band, and it's their first time in Wales^_^ Does anyone know who the supports are?? I hope there are none so they end up doing a 20 song set. IN WHICH THEY'LL HAVE TO PLAY SECOND HEARTBEAT!!!

How many times has this been said before? There name is from genesis where someone says to someone (cain and Abel methinks) "If you killing him, vengeance shall be cast upon you sevenfold". Something like that anyway.
Yes but only two of the guys are god believers.

Well, where do you fall on the spectrum?
I'm personally not a religious person. [Drummer] The Rev is mildly religious, with all of his doubts and everything. But we're definitely not a religious band by any means. We all have certain beliefs and philosophies, but we don't want causes. We hate ****ing bands with causes. It doesn't ****ing help at all, and it just pisses people off.
We're here to let people think how they wanna think and not judge 'em for it, and we certainly don't want to be judged for how we think.

so anyone else find it a little ironic that these guys won the best new artist award at the VMAs last night even though theyve been around for 7 years?

Everyone seems to consider a7x a new band now for some reason, think it since they released city of evil.

In MTV new artists are new when they've had a recent major mainstream hit so it's really not that much of an issue. Also, is it just me or was Zacky V crying when he got the award?
LOL at the stupid presenter who couldn't pronounce the band's name.

in all fairness, she was only a little girl....still a stupid little girl though. i dont think zacky was crying, however it did seem like the rev was a little sedated on something, i guess he always seems like that though. he made me laugh though with his, "Id like to thank god, whichever god i believe in, not really sure yet which one it is" speach. i was very surprised that they won that though considering they were up against gay **** like rihanna and angels and airwaves.

I don't listen to City of Evil, but I still love the guys. Definitely my favorite band because that's how amazing Sounding the Seventh Trumpet and Waking the Fallen were.

i only bought waking the fallen like 2 days ago and now i know why everyone loves it so much. i still think i like city of evil more because it is more melodic but waking the fallen is amazing too. im in shock because for the last 6 months ive had like a demo version of second heartbeat on my computer, and in my car this morning i was listening to the cd and this completely different version was on the CD. i never understood why everyone raved about it so much but after hearing the album version i was completely blown away.

City of Evil has some great songs like: Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country, Sidewinder, Wicked End, SOTW, M.I.A, but it also has some song that I really dislike and used to like, Burn It Down, Trashed and Scattered, Seize the Day.

Wow, the ones you 'dislike' are my favorites. Avenged Sevenfold was good live. They played Walk! 3 Inches of Blood, Confession and Protest the Hero were the opening bands. Cam Pipes was the guy that was selling his bands merchandise which was weird. He signed my shirt and ticket.

maybe, but i dont see why metal shouldnt be on TV or MTV in general. im not really a fan of the "metal on mtv = sellout" thing. i dont see anything wrong.
on another note, i wouldnt mind if seize the day was on mtv with much better vocals...

Sometimes I think not having Sky or anything and as such not having access to any music channel is actually a good thing because overplayed songs aren't actually overplayed for me so I can still appreciate them.

Syn changed the solo, it sounds much more GN'R-ish.

Ive never seen seize the day or beast and the harlot on TV, and i think i only saw bat country once. ive only ever heard bat country on the radio once or twice too. they really dont get too much airplay in vancouver. i guess muchmusic (canadas MTV) is more into gay **** though so no good songs are ever played.

That's weird...bat country was so overplayed on MTV, TRL etc...it got to number 1 on TRL and stayed there for weeeeeks. but anyway, i dont know much about vancouver, so i cant say.

They haven't put anything up on their website yet. I'll check when I can.
Still, I'm quite annoyed (even though I am going to the London show). This is the second time they've done this. I can understand that they want to press on with their new album, but really this is the second time in a year UK fans have been left wanting.

They did do a tour earlier this year. They were also meant to be touring the UK as the first place they visited directly after City of Evil was released, then they cancelled the entire tour except for a single date in the London Astoria: now however small they obviously think Britain is, we can't all get to London. Also, many people had already bought tickets for other venus and they were not refunded.
They then did a tour in the UK later on, although I should add that during their full tour their set was ridiculously short (under an hour).
Now they're doing again exactly what they did the first time.
Happy

I hope the set's longer than an hour :(
