I hate Seize the Day with a burning passion. Worst A7X song in my opinion. It's catchy, but a bad catchy.

The only unbearable thing about STST is Shadow's harsh vocals, they really get on my nerves.

i wouldnt mind if they re recorded STST, however if i had to choose between that and a new kick *** CD, i would have to go with the new stuff. cant wait for their follow up to CoE!!!

The only song I like off StST is Warmness on the Soul. I love singing along to that.
Shadius

STST lacks recording quality, but you can get over that.
Personally, I think the vocals are the only thing lacking on that album, worst A7X vocals to date. No point in rerecording it though. Like I keep saying, a live album would satisfy anyone who wants to hear some old songs in the new style. Pick a couple from STST, a few from WTF and the majority from COE.
SimonCore
05-19-2006, 10:52 AM
The only way the vocals could be re-recorded and it would own, was if Shadows recorded the vocals again when he was WTF standard.

I think the screaming sounds fine on STST, the clean singing kinda sucks though.

What grates me about the STST vocals is the pronounciation.
"Yourr waarghrun aarghweeia"
If I didn't have the lyric booklet I wouldn't have a clue what was going on.

ya a live album would be awesome. i really like the old songs with new vocals. i know people are gonna hate me, but i definitely like them more than the originals.
TurnTheOtherWay
05-19-2006, 11:26 PM
Yeah, that was my one complaint about STST. His scream is for the most part incomprehensible. I think it's the worst on Breaking Their Hold. Thank god for lyric booklets...
But it's still 1,000 times better than a re-recording. God, that would piss me off...
Drunken Viking

He's capable of doing the WTF scream, just listen to Blinded in Chains or Trashed and Scattered. It's just a matter of if he would do it.

Hi, I'm *NEW* to this forum but I like A7X, it's quite a hardcore metal band. Though I don't really like Beast And The Harlot, I prefer Sidewinder and And All Things Will End... ...
Although in the Beast And The Harlot video, drummer The Reverend did some cool drum moves, eh?

Hi TurnTheOtherWay, I agree with you that although my friends and I like the same music genres, we don't seem to be 'tight' enough and most aren't really serious about the band I'm in. Although, we already signed up with this 'who-knows-****' people who say they would advertise our band online, why don't we take our bands seriously? This is what causes many bands to disband. We barely practice together, actually nearly never because we all are so busy with school's bull**** and when we're free, we can't always get together and even if we meet up, we usually end up trying to 'kill' each other.
SimonCore

^^No he he's only aloowed to sing for a certain amount of time for a day, no way could he add screaming to that. He's voice couldn't take it.

I read he's capable of screaming again, but just wouldn't take the risk to fukk up his thoat once more... Can't he just learn to scream without fukkin up his throat.. although he can't, I really miss the screaming, especialy in unholy confessions (that one i meant live)

Unholy Confessions ain't too bad without screaming, though the original is better. The worst one I thought was second heartbeat.

Second heartbeat is appalling without screaming. And he usually actually screams in that song at the moment when you don't want to hear him screaming! during the solo

For like one line.
You guys Shadows can scream even after his surgery. He had it done a few summers ago, and he screamed the entire '04 Warped Tour after the sugery. He doesn't want to scream, the entire band made a choice that they don't want screaming as a part of their sound. It's because he can't, it's because he doesn't want to.

It's most likely all psychological that he fears if he screams again, even with proper training that he'll hurt his voice again.
Example, I was in a band last year, and I didn't really know how to scream all that correctly, but I could get it high and raspy... kinda Caliban-ish... it wasn't good for me at all though, and I blew my voice out a couple of times (no horrible perminant damage.... anyhow I decided to practice more and learn proper technique, and now I'm fine when I scream, and I'm in a new band (with mostly the same members... no bass anymore), but a lot of the time I kinda trick myself into fearing that I hurt myself and I constantly ask my bandmates if my voice sounds good or not, whether or not it's hoarse, etc.
Drunken Viking
05-21-2006, 01:23 AM
If it was psychological he wouldn't have screamed on Warped Tour immediately following the surgery.

I'd probably go to the one that's coming up if they weren't at Download. I'd rather see them there since it's much smaller and you can actually see them. The Download main stage is ****, there's a **** off barrier between the front gate and a stage that's a million miles above sea level.
The second stage is better if you want to get close.
deathscreamingsheep
05-26-2006, 01:32 PM
I swear you can land a ****ing aeroplane in the barrier between the main stage and the crowd at Donnington. How on earth do bands feel that they're interacting with the crowd?
MRDuCran
05-26-2006, 02:45 PM
Exactly, it sucks. Especially if you watch a video on youtube of Download, you can see from above how wide it is.
Happy
05-26-2006, 03:06 PM
I've seen festivals with bigger spaces.
Plus that barriers only there because of the fans that got crushed when GnR last played.
MRDuCran
05-26-2006, 03:14 PM
I fail to understand how a huge gap would make a difference. People still go fukking crazy when people play, especially the thrashier of bands, i.e Slayer, Dragonforce, Metallica's fast ones. If someone falls and something bad happens, it's not down to the size of the gap...unless there's an exact reason that WAS because of the gap which I'm not aware of...?
Happy
05-26-2006, 03:23 PM
The gap's there so that if anyone's getting crushed at the front, they can be pulled out by the guys up front amongst other reasons.
Maybe it shouldn't be so huge but it's still needed.

It won't be that long. They'll have about 40minutes on stage. So no Strength of the world and blinded in chains and to end the rapture.

The rhythm of it, like for example the intro to that song on the acoustic guitar is easy to read, the rhythm is all quarter notes. The rhythm in the chorus for it is insane though, its got triplets in it, it's not all picked in the same rhythm either, and with the ties in the mix it's hard as hell to read. I bet you didn't think that when Shadows is yelling "Strength of the World" That was a triplet a and quarter note.

k. Well. Maybe work on getting it perfect, but play it so it sounds great, but isn't too hard?
Sometimes I'll change a part of a song. If anything, the ability to adapt & customize a song is a good thing.

I'll change some songs parts, like in Bodom After Midnight the fills at the end of the verse it goes across the neck starting with 15; 14; 12; then it switchs to the B string and goes 13, I just got 15; 14; 12; 8 all on the E string, it's the same note but it's easier and it goes better with the song.

I just do standard tunning for basically everything, so it would be A string then I guess, and the E string would be D.

It's a step down.
There's a rather large difference in sound. I'd strongly reccomend tuning down the whole step.
It'll sound MUCH better.

Much easier said than done, especially with a Floyd Rose.
'tis why I got rid of my Jackson that had a FR.
It's doable (very) (not HARD). Do you not have a tuner? If you don't, you can tune off the respective note.
I use GP (guitar-to-laptop) to tune. It's lightning quick, plus I can change between tunings faster than my chromatic tuner.

Well Chapter Four, Bat Country and Beast and the Harlot are all really cool so if I did get involved, I wouldn't mind doing either of them.
I know parts of the rhythm for the last 2, and most of everything for Cpta4.
I program my drums into Beatcraft but if there's a drummer here, they might want to play them instead. That's what they did with the Nevermore cover. For my last version of Chapter Four, I played over a drum and bass backing track though.

I don't know if ut's the same technique he used back in the WtF days but it defenately wasn't a clean voice. I think it was more of a distorted shout because of how much air he put through, it kicked fukking ***. Easily one of the best bands there for me.

It sounds almost like you're whispering.
EDIT: And for Bat Country and Beast and the Harlot, the choruses, you have a really deep voice, so it kinda doesn't fit that well seeing as how Shadows uses high pitches.
MRDuCran
06-14-2006, 08:14 PM
Hmm. The harsh vocal ones aren't actually screaming. It's the same way as pretty much anyone in the world can do, just passing air through the throat and pronouncing words, but there's no actual note coming through. You'll find if you did that with a live band, you wouldn't be able to hear it, and even if you turned it up, there'd be so much air sound, you wouldn't be able to make out the lyrics.
I think the clean ones sound like that because you're doing it in a different way, you're restricting yourself, that's why it's low. You need to stand up, and sing it like you're shouting, but obviously in key etc.

@ Mitch, What did you mean about notes coming through a scream/growl?
Well it's like when Chandler said you were whispering, it's pretty much correct. There's no actual note behind it, that's why there's no bass in it. It'd be easier to demonstrate with sound examples but you're not rasping a note, it's just air.

I know there's "vox" behind it, thus me being able to hear what you're saying, but you'll never be able to get louder than that because of the way you're doing it. If you strain real hard you might be able to, but then you're going to hurt yourself.
Read up on a few screaming lessons for the proper way, but don't expect miricales, it takes practise, time and dedication just like any instrument.
Trust me, I know what I'm talking about, my friend can scream Killswitch Style and it's definately not the way I do it, which is also the wrong way. But I don't care much for vocals so I'm not all that bothered.

emo = emotional hardcore:
a sub genre of hardcore focusing on emotional aspects of life rather than social aspects. many of the bands in the emotional hardcore subgenre utilize screaming vocals, and harmonized guitar parts more often than normal hardcore bands.
examples: Circle Takes The Square, Fugazi, SikTh, Hot Cross, The Fall Of Troy, The Blood Brothers
Metallica = drunken group of rednecks that ripped off of Dave Mustaine and then finally gave up that gimmick, eventually leading to suckier and suckier music to the point they reached St. Anger.

Bad link. And if you're talking about one an album, it's because there is no reverb on it. I don't mind it though.

Pro Tools is like a computer Program you can use to create drum sounds and stuff or you can make your drumming sound different, something along the lines of that.
It says "thanks to Protools" in the booklet so I'd imagine that's how he got the drum sounds on COE.

I knew what they were I just didn't know what you were talking about. And yeah I'm guessing he plays all the parts then uses Pro Tools for different sounds, kinda like triggers. But he still plays all the drums.

Umm pro tools is just a software made to mix, arrange instrumens/vocals/whatever you want. it has some drum loops and bass loops and whatnot but its made mostly to make things sound better not create drums or other stuff.
Oh and feel free to correct me if im wrong.

Is every thread like attempting a cover again?

It certainly seems that way, or at least it's been mentioned in a few.

Heh I remember there was one attempted in the Metallica thread but the guy recording the drums never did it.
May bring it up again.

Yeah you should, it'd be interesting to hear.
I would do it but I don't have a drum kit here. :(

Yeah, hey MRDuCRan (don't know your real name), if we aren't going to do a cover could you please just program Beast and the Harlot, I have to nothing to create drums with. :(

Ooo that's a long song lol.
I'll give it a shot but it might not be done too speedy since I've got some college work to do this week, after that I'll be free but I'll get it done.

Thanks. Luckily it mostly just repeats, and it's in 4/4 'cept for the intro/outro which is 9/8.

Time signature doesn't matter, but if you say it repeats alot, then that's definately a good thing.

Really the only hard part is the intro, and the bridge, but besides that he mainly just does fast double bass.

I know the song up to that 2nd section part, where it changes.
Probably the main problem for me will be finding snare/tom sounds that I like.

You could DL DKFH, it's in the Cover Comp thread.

I have that, but sometimes the good sounding ones sound weird when they're actually in a song.
I can't find a decent metal snare though.

Well I just checked the 2 guitar pro tabs, and one's in 4/4 and the other is in 9/8, but the one in 9/8 sounds really bad, like the actual drums that are tabbed, so I'll use the 4/4, it wont make any difference anyway.
Are you going to be doing all the other parts yourself??
Drunken Viking
06-18-2006, 11:36 PM
Only the intro/ourtro was 9/8. I was going to do them all except vocals, but if anyone else would like to help I'd be appreciative. I know the bass and lead guitar so far.
Who's going to sing? Found anyone who can hit that range?

Get on AIM, I'm having a problem with Last.FM.

If it's an older song, I could do the harsh parts, but we'd need someone to do the clean.
