Oh the irony, you realize that a swatstika doesn't always mean nazi correct?
Please explain that to me?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika
The swastika is a holy symbol in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism
SimonCore
03-25-2006, 04:27 PM
^^ that's not really the point though. The vast majority of people relate that to Nazi's, and people bearing that symbol as seen as neo-nazi's or rasicts.
Drunken Viking
03-25-2006, 05:50 PM
Yes, but most of those people take the time to find out if those people are actually Neo-Nazi's, or if they aren't.
SimonCore

Anyway enough about Nazis. Any knews on Avenged?

Only that they are going to tour till February.
Anyone else have the Beast and Harlot EP (DVD single)? I think it's really dumb how the names are listed, I couldn't bother trying to find mine it that shitstorm of a mess.

I don't reallly like Tallica, Dredg or Dragonforce either, Metallica because of Hetfields voice, Lars drumming and I hate the bassplaying. I haven't really heard Dredg cept for a few songs, and I don't like Dragonforce*that much because it's jsut really fast annoying music, good for 1 minute then it gets old.

Avenged Sevenfold is teaming up with Metallica(meh) and Guns N Roses for a European tour. They're not doing this in America. What kinda crap is this?

Yeah but eventually you'll end up being the only country where they all do an actual tour together. They're just doing the festivals elsewhere.

Any idea as to what songs these guys will play at Download this year?

I think they'll play a normal/slighty shorter setlist like the ones they've been playing on tour.

Well I've only just got into them this week so I'm not even sure what they do.
So far, my fav songs are:
Chapter Four
I Won't See the Light Tonight part 2
Unholy Confessions
Bat Country
As soon as I heard IWSTLT pt2 last Tuesday, I got home, learnt it and recorded a bit of it, they really aren't what I expected, I always thought A7x we're ghey emos playing acoustic sh!t, but NO, it's really good, I never gave them a chance...:upset:

1.Chapter Four
2.Beast and the Harlot
3.Trashed and Scattered
4.Burn it down
5.IWSYTP1
6.Strength of the World
7.Second Heartbeat
8.Unholly Confessions
9.Bat Country
I know they haven't been doing Second heartbeat but I reckon they'll wanna do it in front of thousands of people though. As it is their best song.

MRDuCran
04-03-2006, 07:01 PM
Yeah I'm new, I only got into them a week ago.
I haven't heard any albums, just random songs on my mates mp3 player, but all the songs I heard were off the Waking the Fallen album so I might get it.
I love Bat Country of their new album too.
It's frightening how much I like some of these songs though, I never listened to them before last week because I *thought* they were sh!t, emos, that played acoustics or something or whined about nothing, damn I was so wrong! (as I explained in post 3024)
I've been wanting to find a new band for ages, I've been addicted to Bodom and I think this the band!
You're retarded. There is no such thing as an emo.
Heh, irony?
And I think you'll find there is.

I just thought it was bland "core" at best.
I have no clue how they brought their game up to WTF level so fast. Then raised it again with City Of Evil.
Drunken Viking

I don't think it was very bland, I listen to some metalcore and I'd say that STST is pretty unique compared to those.

So what's new in the world of A7X? I haven't been around here in a long time
Drunken Viking

That set seems far too similar to what they played on the UK tour. I would hope they would change it up more than that. But if I get to see them play Second Heartbeat I will be happy.

nowitzki
04-05-2006, 08:51 PM
Would be cool, not sure if it would be that great without screaming though. I doubt they would play IWSYT1 at Download, my guess is they'll try and play their heavier/more metal songs mainly, to suit the Download crowd.
MRDuCran
04-05-2006, 09:10 PM
I noticed you say without screaming, is it M. Shadows doing the background screams in Chapter Four and the main verses in IWSYT2??
Drunken Viking
04-05-2006, 10:02 PM
He does all the vocals on Waking the Fallen, but he doesn't scream anymore, he burst a blood vessel in his throat from doing it wrong.
MRDuCran
04-05-2006, 10:36 PM
Ah shame, I love the screams on Chpater Four and IWSYTP2, but then again, the catchy melody on Bat Country rules too.
Sounds fukkin painful though, "burst a blood vessel", ouch!
Drunken Viking
04-05-2006, 10:51 PM
Yeah, then he had to do the entire 2004 Warped Tour with it.
MRDuCran
04-05-2006, 11:06 PM
Isn't that a bit silly, to continue with that...
I would say they should of cancelled but that would destroy so many hopes of fans.
Drunken Viking
04-05-2006, 11:12 PM
Well I think that the tour was about to start, so they couldn't really cancel.
MRDuCran
04-05-2006, 11:24 PM
Yeah exactly. I found out about Alexi breaking his toe just before the London gig on Bodoms last tour and I shat myself thinking they'd cancel.
Drunken Viking
04-05-2006, 11:42 PM
A burst blood vessel is a little more severe then a broken toe, but I see what your saying.

Dude i was like you about about 3 months ago i was A7X who the hell are they. The name sounded emo to me so i stayed away then my drummer would not shut up about them so i picked up Metal Hammer magazine and read the interview and was like WTF these guys are cool as hell i have got to check there stuff out. I did and i was totally blown away by it.
BTW i have done the same with Metallica this week i never payed them much attention but i bought Master of Puppet because i was told it was the best metal album ever and i was like OK lets give them a chance now i can't wait to see them at Download.

Isn't that Metal Hammer review the one that got loads of complaints?
Yeah... well kinda...
It was in an interview in Metal Hammer when Shadows admitted that the whole band voted for Dubya and were basically rednecks which sparked off a huge debate over wether a musicians political views should be a factor in wether you like the band or not.

Yeah.
I thought a lot of the people complaining were idiots. Stuff like "OMG I'm burning my A7X CDs and hoodies because of the interview"
I'm thinking why? Just because they looked bad in an interview doesn't immediately make them bad musicians etc.

I respected them for that interview. Shadows came out with some stuff that made sense. I mean i sick of hearing rock stars saying we hate Bush blah blah. So for that i respect them and for saying it would be a bad scene for someone to diss his band in front him was legendary lmao.... :thumb:

I don't think they looked bad per se
I respected them for admitting to supporting Bush and their politcal stance. To be honest i couildn't give a crap which band hates which politician etc... to me it's all about me music and nothing more. If Dragonforce suddenly become supporters of the Labour party here in the UK i wouldn't stop loving them.
No matter how famous/well known you are, you shouldn't let the prospect of record sales or selling out tours affect what choices you make within your personal life. I'd rather they lost all the fans who were like 'OMG ima burn my cds cuz they love Bush' actually they probably will when the next new trend comes along. Then i could go and see them without having to push through millions of screaming pre pubescent girls or 13yr old boys trying to be Zacky.

I read that MH interview. I've gotta say that was the most stupidest interview i've ever read...they didn't ask one question about the music! I couldn't care less how many times they pissed on a girl, or who they voted for. It was like a 3 page interview and not one decent question like "So any ideas on your knew album". What's the point in trying to get involved with someone's personal life?

Yeah but the solo's Syn does all of them. I mean yeah it's obvious that the leads are harmonized and they do harmonise them live aswell. Like 'burn it down' and chapter four they definetly do the harmony with no rythm.

They're more bearable on that album to me though, they have a hardcore feel to them rather than a Gunz N' Roses feel.
Plus his voice instructor said his voice would be completely better in 2 years from when it was damaged... so yeah, his voice is probably nearly there.

Waking the Fallen is by far one of my favorite albums, but honestly I think the new C.D. is awful. I feel they have completely sold out, and not because of the singer's "inability" to sing, but like, if you watch videos of them before the new C.D., and videos of them after, they are so different. One difference being the way they dress, it's just seems so poseuresque. Also, their overall stage presence (mainly the singer) is so boastful. The singer walks around like he's God. Basically, he reminds me of those arrogant jocks from high school who worship themselves, and think that everyone else worships them too. It's hard to explain. I just can't stand that band anymore.

Uh... They've always dressed up. The style has changed only slightly since their latest album, and I wouldn't call the difference anywhere near selling out or changing their image. Also, Shadows has walked around the stage like that since before the new album too from the videos i've seen, it's just stage presence, dude. Would you rather some unmotivated guy who lacks self esteem trying to belt out songs like he does up there?
I'm sure he's not like that in person, eesh, and even if he is, he's been like that for ages.

I don't know, Shadows seems really full of himself. I don't know how to explain it, just like everything about them ticks me off. And I have nothing wrong with stage presence, he had great presence in videos I've seen before the new album, bbut now his stage presence is so condescending. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. Maybe I'm just subconsciously mad at him for "breaking" his voice, and I take out my anger towards them by complaining about things that they do have control over. But I don't think so.

Personally, I really have never liked avenged sevenfold, and for the reason you were just saying. In Beast and the Harlot, it looked like those morons had diamonds and shlt in their "grills". We already have enough posers and rappers in the world, we don't need more. O yeah, and the singing sucks.

I told myself that too but obviously not, they just wanted to look hip for all the kids to like. There's nothing wrong with trying to gain more fans but they went too far. On the topic of "grills", Jonathan Davis has a grill in the new Korn video Coming Undone. This also makes me sad. What are these bands thinking.

What's so bad about 'Selling out?'. OK maybe like Green day style selling out, but i don't see why people have a problem with bands signing a deal with a company...this is their only chance for fame etc...everyone in here would do it if they had the chance.

I don't see how A7X could have sold out. They've always appealed to the scene and on every album their music improves. They're a band progressing.
I think they've gone for the more catchy singing becuase Shadows can't scream anymore.

If A7x made a generic pop-rock album, that would be selling out. City of Evil is nothing like anything else in the mainstream right now, and is a very adventurous and progressive album. The fact that they pulled it off so well and it became successful does not mean they have sold out.

Well then you have no idea what selling out is. They still write the music they wanna right, they don't try to impress other people.
To end this **** about Shadows and Zacky's grills like that has any effect on the music or if they were to have sold out. Shadows said this in responce to a question from a fan, if you don't believe me then check out his link to it http://www.avengedsevenfold.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7474 .
Q:What made you decide to start with the "grills"? I first saw it on the KROQ webcast show with just Shadows having it on (the only mouth actually visible). Now in the Beast in the Harlot video Zacky is sporting one as well. Did Paul Wall get to you as well??? I thought it was kinda funny because being from Houston, thats what I was thinking. BUT, now having read Shadows likes the music of Paul Wall, I have to ask.....what influenced you to get the grill? Was it actually the Paul Wall thing going around? Or was it something you guys thought looked cool?"
A:"For some reason me and zacky enjoy jewelry in our mouths. There is no other reason then that. I got some fangs last year on Warped Tour (way before I knew who Paul Wall was) Then it just grew from there. Bought more and now I have 3 different sets and a set of fangs. There is nothing too it, its just something I like to wear.

I think the reason a lot of bands are "selling out" these days is because they are too damn greedy: in some cases. I usually see this happening to bands and such that have already been around for a while and just think they can be better. Some examples: Metallica with St. Anger and Some Kind of Monster- those albums sucked a$$; Zakk Wylde with BLS- nothing really here, but it seems like he is trying too hard with the whole biker thing; Korn of course- they sort of dress like gangstas and are sort of slopping their new albums together, when everyone liked their old shlt; SOAD- they came out with like 2 albums in a year, which basically sucked, because they were sort of trying to make their songs have that funny/weird sound and feeling-go back to the toxicity album type of music, that kicked serious a$$.

Jesus guys WTF, how have they sold out? I mean i never heard of them before City of Evil tbh but i now own all the albums and the way the sound has developed really suprises me. Just becuase they dress different to what they used to doesn't mean you sell out man its just expanding they have always said they want to be the biggest band in the world and to do that the image had to change.
Also Shadows has always been like that from video's i have seen and interviews i have read, personally i think the bloke is a legend & has such stage prescence. I would also say his vocals are unique also just becuase they model themselves on GnR is by no far stretch a bad thing modelling your self one of the best bands of all time.
Synster would well own Zacky on guitars man i mean he studied at some yank guitaring god college or sumit and his Dad played with Zappa so he obviously has natural ability. Taking nothing away from Zacky he is a great guitarist also but Synster is the man Zacky admits that in a interview i read last week.

Ok, that is not what I said. So try to think next time you reply like that. No, that does not mean a band has sold out. I'm not exactly saying all of those bands are sold out. I really don't like Avenged Sevenfold because they wear makeup and "grills" and try to act like their music is metal when it isn't. I'm not saying they are sold out, maybe this is just the way they are, maybe they smoke too much crack, I don't know and don't care. My point is that the only way a band is actually sold out is when they slop together albums that have a much lower standard than the earlier ones and yet still make tons of money.

First of all, I'll agree with you on the grills, I think that's just plain stupid. The makeup, however, isn't really that big of a deal. Even if it was, you shouldn't judge a band on how they look. That's plain idiocy.
Secondly, they're simply classified as metal. They don't walk around calling themselves a metal band or promoting themselves as a metal band.
Thirdly, how the hell is signing on with a major label selling out? They've put out two CDs with, while good, pretty much unsuccessful record labels, and then they got the chance to sign on with a good one. What the hell is wrong with that? I guarantee you if you had a band and Warner Bros. Records offered you a record deal, you'd take it. That's what bands do, my friend, this has nothing to do with selling out.

Selling out is when you make and write music for people other then yourself, say to try to get onto a big label or to go mainstream, A7X did none of this. They make WTF which noone considered selling out and that got them onto to the WarnerBrothers label. And going mainstream is just by chance, it took nearly 6 months for their video to get played on MTV after CoE came out, if they were going mainstream they would have had it on their since 2 weeks before hand.
And people like you are people who don't know what selling out is but still use the term like you do.

Shadow's screaming style put a huge strain on his throat, and apparently, while he may now be able to scream, he was told by a doctor that continuing to scream would result in him needing surgery again in a few years. SO he decided not to do it at all.

Shadow's screaming style put a huge strain on his throat, and apparently, while he may now be able to scream, he was told by a doctor that continuing to scream would result in him needing surgery again in a few years. SO he decided not to do it at all.
That's if he continued screaming the way he was on the older albums... if he screamed with proper technique (which he kind of was) and didn't push beyond his range he would be fine.
With the screaming, his technique was fine, but if you listen to his clean singing, he doesn't have the... highest... of voices, and in order to push his voice to the pich he got screaming he needed to compensate his technique and close his throat a bit to hit those notes.

Wow, this whole argument started because i was making fun of their grills and said they sold out. Here's my view. They're trying to look appealing to the young trendy kids by wearing metal in their mouth and by the different singing approach that wasn't on previous albums. Even though he supposedly can't scream anymore which i don't believe, he still sung extremely well on their first two albums. Can you agree with what i'm saying now? Some will probably tell me this isn't selling out but to me it is (though not in a enormous way). I'm not saying City of Evil is bad by any means though the singing could have been aloooooot better.
First off, I don't think they were trying to appeal to any ROCK people by putting metal in their mouth. If anything that's less appealing.
Secondly, they didn't sell out by switching vocal styling. First of all, he CAN'T scream anymore. It doesn't really matter what you believe, what happened happened. Secondly, they knew that switching styles was gonna piss off a lot of fans, and possibly even LOSE a lot of them, which did happen.
Now please explain to me how this is selling out.

I didn't say anywhere it appealed to rock fans. I said it appealed to trendy kids. He can scream dont be silly. I know it doesn't matter what i believe. Once again why get so defensive over an opinion. You just explained to me how they sold out. They wore grills to not appeal to rockers but to trendy kids (like all the ones who watch mtv with all the jigga jigga booty grills in ya dome stuff) and they switched styles. Like i said, they didn't sell out in a huge way but they did. And to whoever said the singing is better now, what the hell was he thinking when he was singing at the end of MIA??? It sounded like he was breathing in and talking, i find that moment of the song very hard to listen to.

LOL, is that a serious question. Wow. Ok heres about 30 bands: Lamb of God, In Flames, Behemoth, Children of Bodom, Necrophagist, Kalmah, Slayer, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, 3 Inches of Blood, Arch Enemy, God Forbid, Soilwork, Pantera, Opeth, Chimaira, Wintersun, Trivium, Strapping Young Lad, Exodus, Testament, Isis, Yngwie Malmsteen, Himsa, Dew Scented, Cradle of Filth, Hatebreed, Black Label Society, Vader, Cryptopsy, Soulfly, Sepultura, Fear Factory- and many more. So why don't you learn more about music before you start making dumb assumptions. Avenged Sevenfold has sort of a fake metal sound like margirin is to butter. The singing definetly isn't metal and sucks.

Ok, Eleventeen knows a shitload more about music then you do, he was being sarcastic because A7X are clearly metal. He was saying that if they aren't metal, then nothing can be metal. It doesn't matter if a band screams like nearly all those bands do, or if the drummer in the band uses constant double bass and blast beats the entire time you can be metal without doing all those things, just like A7X.

Where do u live, San Francisco? Also you probably don't know anyone in this thread so you don't know if they are metalheads. And what are you talking about constant double bass, their drummer does that all the time. And for their appearance, they are like an emo band mixed with rapper and badass biker band. Sure they sort of sound power metal in their intro riffs, but then BAM, into ****ty singing and punk like drum beats. They just sound like half the other bands u hear on the radio, excluding the singing. I must admit their drummer does sound pretty good in his micro solos, but he needs to expand his talent.

i never once said they are the "new metallica", i merely stated that at the rate they are going and with the resurging need for good, heavy music that is still accessible to non-metalheads, they may very well be in the same position that metallica were in back in the late 80s. i never once compared the 2 bands, and there certainly wont ever be a new metallica, but i find it quite refreshing to hear a band thats trying to change the music scene like metallica did almost 20 years ago. and also the majority of bands that do scream are pissed off at the world and feel screaming is the only way to show their aggression. there are other ways to show emotions other than screaming your head off, and A7X have proved this on CoE.

you must be some kind of retard, considering that in my first post i never said the words "new metallica", and you attacked me for it, then in my second post i restated that i never compared the 2, and your still finding me saying they are the new metallica. your an idiot. show me in either of my messages where i say that they are the new metallica. it doesnt happen. and my point was that screaming doesnt add anything to the music and most bands that scream suck, and by naming those bands, you just proved your point, considering they all suck (except A7X). the only good scream ever was mike patton, because he is unbelievable. and if i were actually going to compare avenged sevenfold to a band, it would be iron maiden, because its far easier to hear maidens influence on them than it is to hear metallicas. next time think before you put your foot in your mouth.

Dude. Just shut the hell up.
and FTR.... Drunken Viking isn't an idiot. He's prolly the person who's most knowledable on MX about A7X.

Yeah, Chapter Four is my favorite A7X song. Guess what my second favorite is. ;)
and Drunken Viking knows his **** about A7X. He constantly owns people who insist that they sold out with City Of Evil in the review for it.

True. He's got a rather large lead and it'll be tough to beat.

Chapter Four is really good, I love the layering of Matt's clean singing and screaming, it just sounds good.

all their songs are monotonous, its as if the whole album is one huge song with little breaks in it.

Not really. There are just too many differences in the songs, and if it were to be put in as one track, it would seem a bit... oh say... non-structured [think early Opeth].

Each song is actually unique from the other...if you actually bother listen to the full song. I know where you're coming from though, but really that's a narrow-minded thought...you just gotta actually listen to each song, you'll hear the difference.

You're a ****ing moron. Please consider what you are typing before you post.
On topic: Second Heartbeat was my favourite Avenged Sevenfold song, but then my band rehearsed it like 100 times at band practise which kind of made me tired of it.

I thought Zacky did the "give me your hand blood is spilt...." bit on Chapter fourI know he does live (and Syn aswell now) but in the studio was it him or Shadows?

It's Shadows. In fact Shadows does most of the vocals including backing on the albums.

I think I could play anything off WTF, not sure on all the solos though.

Chapter Four is fairly easy to learn, except for the solo. I've yet to get that down completely, but solos are my downfall.

I think I'll print several tabs off and just go with w/e I wind up liking.
I've listened to WTF for several years and played a bit over a couple years. I think I could play anything off WTF except maybe a few solos.

And I'm Charming I'm tabbing out Chapter Four, which is the song I'd recommend, so if you wait a few days I can send it to you.

Okay. I started Desecrate Through Reverence this afternoon. It doesn't seem to hard. Love the song, so that makes it easier.
The lead riff after the intro is kinda tricky, but not hard. I got it down pretty well and should perfect over the next couple days.
I have several Chapter Four tabs out there which were rated 5 stars many a time.
I'll gladly accept your tab of it though. I'd like to maybe learn that as well.
