Yeah, the same peole who don't like them for stuff like are the same kids who hate bands for being "fashioncore" which by definition has nothing to do with the music.
I DUN LIEK DA WAI TEHY LEWK, THER4 TEHY CNT B GUD!

I really can't see why the personality of the singer would effect someone's enjoyment of music.
I think it does. I did say they are still one of my favourite bands. It's just he keeps going on about how good he thinks they are and says there wasn't meant to be any screaming in COE which there was but he lost his voice.

Yeah but i dunno it's more the vibe you get when your reading his interviews.
nowitzki
03-01-2006, 04:18 PM
To be fair, its often hard to judge someone after reading an interview. You don't know what their tone of voice/body language was at the time, so something said jokingly can really get taken out of context.
Still, whatever, it doesn't bother me at all. Phil Anselmo is an idiot, but Pantera are still one of my favourite bands.

Yes, bands can joke. When I met Syn at Warped Tour, I was like "Dude, you're the greatest ****ing guitarist in the world." He looked at me and said "Yeah, I know.", and then he laughed and shook my hand and said he was just kidding. Now, if he had said something like that in a magazine article, then people probably would've thought he was being serious, therefore thinking he's just another arrogant guitarist.

Dude about the interview guy there was not supposed to be any screaming on CoE, M. Shadows has said numerous times that there wasn't because he felt that at first screaming set them apart from other bands, but now that everyone is screaming they are trying to jump ship.

Oh ok. But they did say in earlier intervies "Yeah originally we just wanted to be a harcore screamo band".

I read in a interview somewhere that they didnt want to be but felt pressured into having to conform to what people/scene expected.

Can someone please explain why they like Avenged Sevenfold?
I have been trying to get into them for about 6 months now, occasionally putting on City of Evil and every time I put it on I have to turn it off.
It's quite obviously this band is playing the most mainstream metal the world has ever seen, this is metal for idiots who don't know real metal.
It all sounds too fake.
And for the Pantera kiddies, walk sucks, the riffs are rubbish. And Pantera was never good in the first place.
nowitzki
03-02-2006, 10:44 AM
Are you serious.... the most mainstream metal? True their songs often have catchy choruses, but the song structures are very complex and progressive compared to pretty much anything else you will hear on MTV etc, and a huge amount of the metal out today. They are very talented musicians making excellent music, and the fact that it also appeals to the mainstream is quite surprising.
And **** you, Pantera are one of the biggest metal bands of the 90s, and they have some of the most legendary riffs in metal. I'd like to hear you come up with a riff as cool as Cowboys from Hell.

Wow, people are really critical with music. Like I said in my previous post, when I listen to Avenged Sevenfold, it just get me in the mood for harder metal and I start listening to something else.
There is nothing wrong with Avenged Sevenfold music, it (to me) is quite generic stuff. Sure they might have interesting guitar parts, but there is nothing really to pull me into their music like other metal bands seem to do easily.
I just need to give them more listens to, sill Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is my favorite of theirs.
Shattered_Future
03-02-2006, 12:59 PM
Mainstream, maybe in the general sense, but fake I definately see where you are coming from. The album is horribly overproduced, especially the drums.
I still think that WTF is a terrific album, though. Some jawdropping solos on that album.

I that the producing makes the album what it is on CoE. Because of all the amazing sounds on drums it makes it sound great, if the drums were all loose and flat they would take away from the music. I don't see how the drums are overproduced, they sound the same way live as they do in the studio.

There's a major presence of 3 guitars in COE that they don't capture (obviously) when playing live. In the Beast and the Harlot, there are 4 in the intro and up to teh verse.
Drunken Viking

I said the drums not guitar's. And I think they capture it just fine live, the bass and drums hold a significant rythm section when the guitars are harmonized.

I think they should stop covering walk now too many bands are doing it. They should play second heartbeat instead or Darkness Surrounding.

Okay, many people have replied to you, but I haven't, and I feel obligated to do so.
I will name every member of the band, and why they are talented, and then put it all together to help it make sense to you.
M. Shadows-Okay, while this guy isn't singing like he did in the chorus of Strength of the World, his voice is amazing. He can hit great notes in the songs he tries to do so in, and when he is screaming/did scream, his scream also happened to be awesome.
Synyster Gates-Okay. This guy is one of the most talented guitarists around right now. He creates some incredible riffs. Have you ever listened to Second Heartbeat on Waking the Fallen? Ever listened to the solo he plays at the end of it. If you say that isn't talent, I would like you to do yourself a favor and pull your head out of your ***, realize you're a moron, and then proceed to learn that solo. Also, ever listened to his live solo for Darkness Surrounding? See bolded sentence. Just about every solo that he does is pure talent.
Zacky Vengeance-While not as talented as Syn, this guy is also one hell of a guitarist. First off, to be left handed and that good at the guitar is a rarity in the first place, and with what he can do, I seriously doubt you can deny the skills there.
Johnny Christ-This guy is an awesome bassist. I've heard stuff where it's just his bass riffs, and, once again, if you haven't heard them, I'd like you to see the bolded sentence once more.
The Rev-Okay, please do not try to say anything bad about the Rev's drumming talent. If you do, you are a moron. If you say he's off cue with the rest of the band, as many like you do, then please explain what songs this is in.
Now, put all of that together, and you will now realize why people like Avenged Sevenfold. They're not trying to be anything that they're not, that's just the kinda stuff they like to do. Now, if you want to come into a thread and insult the band that the thread is about in the first place, then please come in here with something to say besides this is mainstream metal for idiots. That would be greatly appreciated.

I completely disagree here. I listen to tons of real metal, and include them in the genre. I listen to them because they are all talented, the music is very original and sounds like nothing else, and every song they make is very different from the next. I also really love the lyrics.

Waking The Fallen and City of Evil are both excellent, yet very different.
WTF has more of a metalcore influence, and a lot of the vocals are screamed, whereas CoE is more influenced by classic and power metal, with just clean vocals.

About two weeks before it was released in the UK. TBH it was quite a boring show seen as i didn't know the COE songs back then. The highlights were the WTF fallen song apart from Eternal rest because it was perhaps the worst they've ever played it. And Syn messed up the solo.

I can guess the Set list:
1.Chapter four
2.Burn it down
3.Beast and the harlot
4.Trashed and scattered
5.I won't see you tonight part 1
6.Strength of the world
7.To End the rapture
8.Walk
9.Unholly confessions
10.Bat country
That is actaully the exact setlist we got tonight (not in the same order though).
The performance was amazing as expected, however I was actaully very disappointed with the length of the set. Seeing as they cancelled their last UK tour, and they came on stage at 8pm I was hoping that maybe they might play a bit longer for us.
Still a good show, but I was quite disappointed at not hearing Second Heartbeat, M.I.A, Eternal Rest, Reminissions, Sieze The Day etc. 1 hour and 5 minutes is way to short.

I didn't see the first support band, the second were a hard rock band Bullets and Octane. They were OK, not very original though.
Thinking about it, A7x's performance was amazing, they really did play awesome, it just seemed far too short. Considering they were the only headliner, and virtually everyone there had gone just to see them, 1 hour just didn't seem enough.

Is that a big venue? Or does it have different stages?

Because Shadows would hardly be performing in the WTF songs. And He can't play the drums for most of the parts and scream as the drums are too complicated.

He does do screaming in songs like Eternal Rest where there's a backing screamer person but I think the real reason is that Shadows is a very active front man and would probably prefer not to just stand there for most of the WTF songs.

"Our touring for this new record will not stop until around Feb. of 2007. We have some amazing European dates in June. Then we will be out all summer in the USA, Japan and Australia. Hopefully, by September we get back up to Canada and then do it all again. Nothing is set in stone, but the point being, we are planning on playing for everyone by 2007 at least twice. My band can do alot of sevenfold come to think of it. End the rapture, Unholly confessions, Chapter four, Second heartbeat....it's all extremly fun.
I saw Avenged Yesterday and that last setlist seems correct as far as i remember. It seemed like they didnt play much. Only about an hour, but thats meant to be because of shadows voice and he can't sing for long. I didnt expect them to play pantera even though shadows had a dimebag flag and belt buckle when he came on and it reminded me of Trivium playing pantera covers when i saw them. I wanted them to play second heartbeat and knew it would be impossible that they would play sidewinder (the one with the flamenco at the end) but I love that too.
Then afterwards we hung around with the support bands. We just ended up talking to the guitarist from bullets and octane ,that thought he was slash, for ages. Then the first support and roadies as they loaded the gear into the vans. We took them across the road and got them fish and chips then to complete the scottish experience irn bru .
Then ages later Avenged came out one by one. Shadows came out first with a skateboard for some reason. Someone asked if he skates and he said "I eat ****" and laughed then "I suck at skateboarding dude" I dunno if he was planning to skate the 1m from the door to the bus or what because it isnt really a great venue to be skating inside. later Syn came out and walked straight past us and said he's just coming back. The rest all came out after a bit and we nagged them to tell syn to come out too. They must have talked to him cos he came out and said its cold but since you waited in the cold too. I got all their signatures and a photo with each. They seemed like alright people without the makeup and crap, not too arrogant.

I don't have them yet they weren't my cameras and i need to get them emailed. I will post photos once i get them however. Also I "caught" one of Zacky's picks. Its yellow and has the little skullbat on it. It fell behind me and I didn't even realise he had threw them. So I saw some people looking for it and realsied and found it right in front of me. Also a drumstick from bullets and octane fell right in front of me and I also didnt realise till I saw one of my friends who is a really tiny girl holding it and everyone was still looking for it. When they found out one of them was so pissed off and looked like he was considering taking it off her but i kinda stood there and looked menacing. He was shouting how can the shortest person here catch it at least you could have. Im pretty tall so if i payed attention I would have actually caught the stuff cos it fell so close to me. I really want to catch a pick properly just once.

Yeah that's the vibe going round. Hopefully they're playing at Download then they'll have a better set probably 'cause they'll be intimidated by all the metalheads and play there old heavier stuff...i hope. But then again emo fags such as Aiden are there:angry:

Yeah, it sounds really gay. A chance for all the emos to piss off america.
I just bought the CoE tab book, it's sweet.
um we asked Avenged if they are playing download and they all said yes. They all said its hush hush and we're not allowed to say anything wink wink. but my friend was saying "download tickets are 140 and I dunno if I can go but only if you guys are playing I'm buying a ticket." Syn said "well you buy a ticket" and my friend hugged him. The rest said they aren't allowed to say but yes. They can say yes probably because we are just random people that no-one actually has to believe, but its not officially confirmed yet. Sure they might change their minds later but iv'e got all the confirmation I need. If you want to believe me then it is confirmed they will be playing download.

I'm on their mailing list, so I get all info. However, you can probably go to their official site or their myspace and get some information on it.

If you go to the Avenged Sevenfold website, it should be in the news section, you might have to scroll down a bit.

First of all, the sooner they put out a new album the better, because I wanna hear some new things.
Secondly, they won't have an album out any time soon.
I mean, come on. Think about it.
Since City of Evil, they've done Warped Tour, two legs of the tour for their own CD, and now are back with Coheed and Cambria. When the hell do people expect them to have had time to record a new CD? If anything, it'll be another year or two I'm sure before we hear anything new.

nowitzki

Haha, trust me its perfectly realistic to get that big without steriods. He must have been weight training for a fair few years.
hmm I dunno I didn't think you cared about it being that acurate. That height was a while ago and with short hair. I can't measure myself but I tried right now and am getting 189cm which is roughly 74.5" so 6' 2.5". Perhaps a bit taller if I might not holding the pencil level. In the photos I look taller by a bit so 6'2 seems fine.

Apparently Johnny Christ is meant to be 5'4? But from those photos it';s obviously not true. Oh yeah i have some things that i need to know! First of all:
1.Who is Daemon Ash? Is he Jonny christ before he changed his name? Or what!? And it also says in STST booklet he doesn't appear in the actual CD?? So who does bass?
2.In STST booklet it says Syn appears in To end the rapture...does that mean that's the only bit he actaully recorded and Zacky did the rest?

He was another bassist they had, before Johnny was in the band. Not sure if he recorded STST or someone else did, but it defintely wasn't Johnny.
Just found this:. The solo in the song is back by a thundering bass line, provided courtesy of Justin Sane, who was not the bands original bassist- Daemon Ash was, but for some reason he didn't record the album.

Hmm that seems reasonable. There isn't really any harmonies in STST.
We asked syn his name and he just said synester. Also my friend asked johnny christ about him playing an 8 string. My friend doesnt even play anything and gets confused when I say cab and he cant see any taxis. I wished I had some guitar questions to ask.

Daemon Ash was the bands original bass player when they first started out in their teens, but the band have metioned in various interviews that he wasn't the most reliable of people ie he kept showing uo tp practices drunk/high and that's if he even showed up at all.
The final straw was when he OD'd on cough medicine before a show and the kicked him out.
He had a brief stint in a mental hospital before being discharged. He now has apparantly set up another band.
On STST all the bass is played by Justin Sane of Anti-Flag
