Only thing I like about this band is their name.

For some reason you never struck me as the biblical type. ALso, don't argue with Mambuto, he is the illest nigga in this thread at the time (no offence to black people) hence the Peter Griffin avator.

You have to check out this video of Second Heartbeat on the warped tour: http://www.youtube.com/w/avengedsevenfold-second-heatbeat?v=hlUETBkhL6o&search=second%20heartbeat
its incredible, the best pre-CoE live footage I've seen.

I'm a little worried that Shadow's voice is getting more and more nasal and odd sounding. Judging from a few live performences i've seen. I was thinking it would go in the opposite direction. I hope he's not more nasal on the next CD, and he could loose the odd accents he occasionally puts on for brief sections. His voice sounds so raw live too, which I can't decide whether it's good or bad. He sounds alright in places though. (Before anyone starts, I like CoE and WTF about equally.)
Oh well.
I like M. Shadows and all, but I think they really ought to find another vocalist. His voice was the biggest drag of COE, it's pretty much gone. Just compare the cleans on WTF, STST to COE. On STST it was very raw, undeveloped and weak but bearable. On WTF it's as if he took a quantum leap in vocal abilities - his cleans were great, and so were his screams. They could be smooth yet fierce at the same time. I liked City of Evil a lot otherwise for its sense of melody and it's good guitarwork but damn, he needs to think of something for his voice.

Is the warped tour a annual thing? like Ozzfest.
So I'm three songs away from knowing all of Waking the Fallen. I need some serius help on a couple of the solo's but otherwise it sounds awsome.

yes it's an annual thing every summer.
and dear Christ, avenged sevenfold is #1 on TRL now, beating ashlee simpson. In the current top 10, every other artist is either a rap star or a pop star. This has to be rigged.

This band is ok.
EDIT: Acctually listening to a bit more of their stuff i like them! The more i hear the more i like
Which do you prefer of the two songs you mentioned? Waking the Fallen and City of Evil are both incredible albums, but very different. You can't go wrong with either though.
Chapter Four, hands down. And I bought Waking the Fallen today, it's absolutely amazing. They're one of the few good real metal mainstream bands these days that are actually metal. I really like these guys.
Question: Is City of Evil's vocals all like the ones in Burn it Down? I like the guitar work in that song but I don't really like the vocals.

It's amazing to me how these guys are really revitalizing modern mainstream music. It shocked me when I saw them perform on TRL

To the question about the vocals, they are more nasaly on Burn It Down then most other tracks, but songs like Strength Of The World he gets really nasaly. BUt on most songs he doesn't get nasaly, he makes the vacals fit into the songs really well, like in MIA, the vocals fit perfectly.
On a different note, I recorded Chapter Four, I haven't had time to do the vox yet, but this is what i have so far. http://s41.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1BJ6JBC92MTPS3BFH65WHOP4JO
Oh, and on the solo I have no clue what is actually being played, so I kinda winged it, along with the bass on most of the song. I still have to do the bass on the verses, and to overdub a third guitar on the verses and post choruses, but I have most of the song done.

Well, I just got back from Corpus Christi(concert was last night). Concert was awesome. Day of Contempt opened, followed by Bullets and Octane, and then CKY. Concert started at 7:30, and Avenged didn't get onstage until 10:30. Concert ended at midnight. It was incredible. The mosh pits rocked, and Matt did great with his vocals, along with the rest of the band doing great with their parts as well. If anybody else in here is going to a concert of theirs any time soon, prepare for a great time.

I did this collage of M. Shadows in spare time, hope ya'lll like it.

Quite alot of the cleans on STST are out of tune, which is probably why he screamed most of the time.

It did seem pretty short, but at the same time, it didn't. They were onstage for about an hour and a half or more. When they were coming on, they were playing the Beetle Juice song, and the whole show was kinda creepy. It was good though.
And, we all know A7X covers it the best.:p

Hello everyone.
This is my first post in this thread actually...I only heard Avenged Sevenfold for the first time a couple weeks ago. One of my students (I'm a guitar teacher) asked to learn Sidewinder, so I've been listening to it and learning it and teaching it etc etc....but I don't actually have the song on my computer.
Due to a crappy computer, I can't download songs...does anyone think they could email me the album? Or maybe just the song? I would love you forever! Thanks in advance.

haha. If I had a mic I'd give it a shot.
I can do "average, decent" clear but I have barely any range. I can do some good ( i guess) death vocals.
Your gonna have trouble finding someone who can nail the vocals right.
Because the clear and death vocals. Most can't do both, one or the other most of the time.
If I had a mic I'd give it a shot.

I recorded Darkness Surrounding while I was back home from uni over christmas, but then realised I couldn't sing it, I attempted and it sounded really bad.
The singer from my brothers band has good clean and screamed vocals, but its cutting it a bit late now.

It would have helped sooo much if you didn't try to have that much range.
If you can't nail the range of a clear part. Just sing it in death vocals.
If you can scream/growl well. No one will care.

I find that in the energy and aggression of a live show if something is out of your range you generally end up shouting it out anyway. Also, screaming to me has always just been about confidence: I knew the techniques like open-throat and push from your stomach and stuff from singing lessons I just needed the confidence to just bellow.

Well Kristie, you're unable to post new threads because you just joined, it's probably best though, since this is the official A7X thread, anybody who would want to know anything about A7X would go here, it would be pointless to make something new about A7X when we already have an 86 page thread for them.

Drunken Viking
01-28-2006, 04:54 PM
I saw your post in the Sevenfold thread on MX, and I have some questions.
1 - This one is for Shadows, when I saw you guys late last year in Colorado, on your vocals from City Of Evil you didn't sing like on the album, more of a deeper tone, not higher like on the original track, is this from being on the road so much and their has been stress on your vocals chords, or are you just trying something different?
2 - On your latest record City Of Evil, did you guys have an idea of what you wanted the album to be like? Or did you go into the studio having a slight idea, but not a plan for the album?
3 - On City Of Evil, was their a particular lyrical theme you guys were going for? Songs like MIA are about your friends experiences at war, while Bat Country was about Hunter S. Thompson, and Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas was the video theme.
4 - Your albums seem to all be very different, Sounding The Seventh Trumpet was metalcore, Waking the Fallen was straight Metal, and CIty Of Evil is really hard to classify, some people call it power metal, while some call it straight metal (yeah, I am slightly a genre nazi, but hey I'm jewish cut me some slack), when you were making those albums were your influences changing a lot, I know you guys still listened to '80s metal and stuff like that, but were you also being influenced by newer bands aswell?
5 - On Waking The Fallen and Sthere weren't as many leads as on City Of Evil, was this because of the new direction you were going for, or did you think that it fitted well with the theme of the record, or were you just trying to become more guitar oriented?
6 - On the your newest record City Of Evil the vocals are constantly double tracked and harmonized on every song, most notable MIA, have you ever considered letting any other members of the band sing on the record (even though they are not singers)?
Sincerely,
Viking/Jew
These are the questions I asked, hope the answer them.

It has some early demos, an awesome alternate version of Second Heartbeat, and lots of videos.
This version of Second Heartbeat is awesome, Shadow's screams are killer, a lot higher pitched than the final version.
EDIT: Listening to the demo now, its pretty cool. Shadows only sings the clean parts, all the screaming is done by The Rev.

He still sounds bad. Listen to the damn audio. Just because he had medical problems doesn't make it sound any better.
It seems that saying "Good job, you're a winner!" is more of idiocy than saying "dude he sounds like crap" when he does, in fact, sound sub-par.

Is that Exit Ten? They weren't too bad I suppose- but I don't really dig their style of music. Lots of the audience gave them a good reception though.

My bro would probably go as far as murdering him, just to take his place. Take how much I like A7X and multiply that by a couple of thousand....

Yea the bass is much more active in COE it's cool to here it. You really don't hear bass in most stuff today. I guess it's because everyone seems to be tuning down.
also because much of today's production is shitty *** ****

You guys see this clip? This is sort of an "omg a harsh vocal" moment for me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8QXXQyn34w&search=chapter%20four
I used to love this band so much that it's still hard for me to get over him no longer screaming. He lets out a bit of a shriek - just a tiny bit - right after when he yells "deceit" and it got me all excited. I saw them twice when he still screamed, and then I saw them live when he no longer did and it's totally not the same feeling.
But hearing this little tidbit does bring a little warmth to the ears... ahh, I wish he just shrieked the whole damn bridge, such an awesome song on the album.

Im going to see them on the 12th March in Manchester, anyone got any ideas how long set they are playing, what songs etc etc? Can't wait! :chug:
Anyone heard the supports, Bullets or/and Octane? What genre are they? Just curious
Drunken Viking
02-24-2006, 08:04 AM
Genre, their first album Metalcore, second metal, third metal bordering Power Metal, they'll be playing songs from all the albums proably. The set is proably going to be around an hour, hour and a half. Songs around the lines of Chapter Four, Unholy Confessions, Bat Country, Beast and the Harlot, Burn It Down, I Won't See You Tonight Part One, The Wicked End, Strength Of The World, To End Rapture, Second Heartbeat. I thinnk that they are proably touring with Bulets and Octane but I'm not sure, have fun at the show, it's on my birthday :) .

I don't know what it is about this band, and no I don't hate them or I wouldn't have all their cd's. I just find it hard to actually listen to their cd's all the way through.
I will listen to a few of their songs and then it will start to get boring, and I will put in another heavy band because it reminds me of them, that seem to just have the better sound. Not to disrespect Avenged Sevenfold, but they always remind me of better metal bands to listen to while listening to them.
Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is a great cd...

Its called having a dream. Leave their dream alone and get a dream of your own, and work hard to reach it.
The problem most people have today is that they criticize others so much, maybe it makes them feel better about themselves. You might think that their dream is ridiculous, but guess what, they are accomplishing what they set out to do from the beginning. They are reaching their dream and becoming successful. So while you are talking crap, they are making big bucks.
Don't waste your time on criticizing and talking crap about others ambitions, instead turn that time into making YOUR dream a reality.
There, I'm done.

There, I'm done.
Plus most of what they actually do is just image/what they do to sound like rockers. There was this one article in Kerrang or something where the guitarist went on about drugs. Now, the words he used were so obviously sarcastic it was funny but sure enough next week there were loads of people complaining and stating that they now hate A7X because of what one of their members said in an interview.
In the end, wanting to be as big and successful as Guns and Roses isn't exactly a bad thing anyway.

A7X are one of my favourite bands, but they wouldn't have been if i''d got into them after COE. Not because of the music COE provided, but purely because of M.Shadows' increasingly growing arrogance and denial.
