So, on Tuesday of this week, I figured that I actually might have had a chance to win last challenge.
So I started looking up cool words.
You won't believe this. The word I finally picked was indeed: "mordant".

Oh whoops. I was pretty careless with that. I read it carefully this time and realized the problem. "Manifest" makes sense only if followed by an abstract now like "intent" or "anger." Manifesting a mordant smile is incredibly awkward because manifest is never used for something like a smile. Imagine the difference between manifesting an emotion or concept instead of a movement like a smile. That's why it seems so awkwardly used.

No it's a funny story. Tucker Max has a blog sort of like Maddox but instead of making snide criticisms and cruel social commentary online, he says those things in real life to assorted women. Okay, I'm at my Grandma's right now and tomorrow I leave for Istanbul. Mods will be watching this forum so don't worry about it. I want to be able to vote but I may just have to take the DQ and loss, which is a shame because I'm proud of this song and would be pissed if it couldn't really compete.

The lyrics are partially true, partially myth. My Grandpa died about 6 or 7 years ago from a combination of crazy illnesses. During this trip to my Grandma's she has asked me to find items of his I like for when she dies. The most notable items are the mask, banjo, and hari kiri dagger. I decided to give them all stories that suit what I wanted to convey about my grandpa and the meaning of the lyrics. The way I painted him has a lot of truth to it but it pretty inflated. He played Olympic field hockey and a family name is Taylor, and he traveled to all the places I allude to (Africa, Japan, Lousiana), but he wasn't part of a traveling group. The story about the cigars is true though. It happened to my cousin though. He didn't vomit but my grandpa did send him to the loft at our cottage on Cape Cod with a ton of cigars and told him to just smoke them. My grandpa was a crazy, gifted, yet troubled man, and I hope I could accurately paint that in my lyrics. He enjoyed the wonders and triumphs of life but he himself was troubled, which often marred his accomplishments. I dunno. Complex subject, complex result. I hope you all like it.

I looked at the replles like an hour ago, and the song was totally short. Which confused me, because I couldn't figure out how you fit all this stuff in there. And then I went back and it turned into a novel. This better be worth my reading time, buster!

DFelon-If you want me to look at this, then it has to be looked upon as a lyric...given it’s a lyrical challenge, therefore, with out knowledge of music and rhythm, I have nothing to judge this upon BUT flow. Otherwise it lacks being a lyric and becomes a story…however, for the time being, Ill look at it…yeah, this is a story… that’s all it is, I owuldn’t know how to fit it into song, nor how to read it as a story…and Three parts with an intro is rather extensive, wouldn’t you say…I mean really, at this point it lacks the intent of going with music, and begins the intent of just becoming a novel (complete with chapters already!)

Both of our songs are insturmental surrounded. Dfelon's is a spoke word where mine would have a build up - then the lyrics - then a ending.

While one definition for "prophylactic" is a sexual counter-measure, the most commonly-used definition is a preventative medical measure such as a vaccine or treatment for disease. The intent of both definitions is similar, and that's what is important.

Oddly enough, your radio statement is fitting because this is one of the only songs I've written that is fit for one of the songs I have arranged.

Subtle Dagger- Some people are afraid of your crits, but I’m gonna be brutally honest. The rhyme scheme had huge gaps between common rhyme sounds in the longer of the lines. The last line of the second verse was awkward and out of place in an otherwise near perfect verse.
Rhyme schemes are not necessary in songs. Regardless of that, when I used them there was not a single rhyming problem, all the words I intended to rhyme did.
Only other problem with the second verse was the fifth line. It didn't rhyme, and it was bizarre because obituaries are already lifeless, in the fact they are inanimate and the fact that they are statement of one who has died. I feel that line is a little redundant.
Not only is it not meant to be an exact rhyme but you completely missed the point of the line. "Lifeless" would mean that they lack any sort of enthusiasm about the person's death, and of course it was a play on the fact that they are stating a person's death. I'm not seeing your problem, it's not redundant, you just completely misinterpreted it.
Verses three and four were excellent. The very last line was random....it was very unexpected and not it a good way.
The last line is not random, it has specific meaning, and it's actually one of the most obvious meanings in the song.

Your crit seriously is illogical in almost every way. I'm not complaining because you don't like the song, I'm complaining because you don't even have a decent or sensible reason for disliking it.

I vote that people stop bitching about your crits. If people dont understand something in your writing write more clearly. If you want it to be a song that people have to think about dont write more clearly but dont bitch about it. I mean really. You cant go around defending every misinterpretation to every person. Nor should you want to. The main reason I put anything up here is to see if there are any major flaws that I have overlooked or if NOBODY gets the message. You shouldn't expect that everyone understands that even though its 14 lines, they all have purpose and meaning, or that everything does work with music so rhyme doesnt have to be perfect everywhere. Take the crits for what they are, if people don't like your stuff, they can **** themselves... either that or you really did write a piece of ****. I hope the vets around here can tell that on their own by now though.

The line between inane and uneducated must overwhelm you. I was uneducated as to what your song was about. Not inane to it. Also, I don't know if there are ten people here who KNEW what your lyric was about, so it must be deemed a failure if the majority of people on a LYRICISTS forum did not understand what it was about *corse, I could be completly wrong about what people knew of it*

As Far as DFelons went, I thought it was horrible as a lyric, no rhyming, no flow...it belonged in a book, not as a lyric...therefor it wasn't a god book...

I could write something as great as, say, Moby Dick, doesn't make it a lyric...

The word knife is from the old Norse/Germanic word knif or knlfr. Norse words were borrowed by Germanic traders who settled near Denmark and developed the word that English borrowed form the Germans. The k is silent because in the ruinic lanuage the Phonician translatede letter "K" is not pronounced as "ka" it is pronounced as "na" so it is closer to the letter "N". Although I do agree with you in some aspects, the fact that these forums are a private institution makes it alright to limit freedom of speech. They may censor all they wish. They may ban all opposition. They have that right, because by joining these forums, you agreed upon a set of rules, which you are not permitted to break. But these rules shoud also apply to the moderators, especially the rule about insulting. I've read that rule page multiple times and I assure you, the mods here abuse their privaleges, favor members, and insult members they dislike. They break the rules, as rule enforcers. That's not acceptable.
