What's your favorite independant film?

Mine would have to be Reservoir Dogs

Dancer in the Dark

Despite Von Trier manipulating every scene (and actor/actress) to shock the audience, it really is a harrowing film to watch.

My Own Private Idaho is another of my favourites. River Phoenix plays his character perfectly and the road imagery is really effective.

Trust me, you haven't seen it. It's a local film by some of my friends. They are premiering (spelling?) it in town this week. I just got an early viewing of it. It's awesome though.

Anything and everything by Jim Jarmusch. Dead Man, Stranger than Paradise, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Down by Law, and Mystery Train are my favorites from him.

Do you know the name of that documentary that he did about fellow director, Samuel Fuller? I saw it a few years back and I was blown away. Jarmusch was a terrific interviewer and just let Fuller shine.

On another note, I think my favorite indie film right now might be "The Devil's Backbone". Should anyone here see it, you're in for a real treat. :naughty:

Oh, I also like John Sayles', "Lone Star". I don't know if it's technically an Indie film, per se, but it is an excellent work, nonetheless.
