At the moment, it's hard to go against Sawx Yankees, but over the years I'd say NC Duke.

With how the Yanks have been doing thus far, it'd be inaccurate to say Sox-Yanks. I think maybe Colorado n' Detroit in Hockey.

The yankees just won their 8th straight today. And considering theres no hockey, ill say Yankees Redsox. Almost everytime they play, something unbeleivable and exciting happens.

There is no rivalry there anymore. Free Agency means most of the players involved in the original rivalry have moved on. The only reason anyone still thinks those teams have a rivalry is because ESPN gets wood everytime they say something about it.

The best rivalry would have to be Yankees-Red Sox. Although football has some good ones.....Oakland-Denver, Dallas-Washington, Green Bay-Chicago....a lot of the football rivalries are suffering as of late because one or both of the teams are struggling.

Red Sox-Yankees, because of the immense 100-year history and what happened last October.

Sox-Yankees
Inter-AC
Liverpool-Everton
Chelsea-Arsenal-Tottenham
India-Pakistan in cricket, from what I've heard

Duke-UNC are second to Yanks-Sox. They play instant classic games every single year, though next year the games wont be so close

Where I am... Saints Vs Pompey. But Football here is different.

yeah Saints Pompey is bad. Its mainly a fans thing though, the players dont really get involved.

I like how the Duke fans tend to deny the significance of the UNC - Duke rivalry. I guess you might have started paying more attention to Maryland?

Duke has to watch their backs...everyone in the ACC hates them, just about.

Adam Foote. Chris Draper. Foote and Draper were some of the biggest players in the rivalry.

India vs Pakistan cricket matches. That goes way way deeper than just sport though, but if you want to know the biggest rivalry then it has to include a nation with 1 billion people.

Football
Celtic v Rangers - Religious War
Boca v River - Class War

To paraphrase one comedian, "You Americans get all excited about your sports rivalries here, but they have nothing on international football. You might hate some team because they beat your team or something. You have the Cowboys vs the Redskins or things like that, we have England vs Germany. We hate them because we fought a war against them."

In Euro 96, English fans at Wembley chanted "Everyone who won the war, stand up" in a match vs Germany.

Out of Boca and River, which team is the upper class team, and which is the working class one?

Ya, two players. Thats about it. When was the last time the Wings and Avalanche really got into it during a game? 1999? The last time I remember the two teams actually disliking each other was the game when Roy and Osgood fought. Since then, they're just two teams playing each other like any other game.

I remember that.

I still think the Celtic/Rangers rivalry puts all others to shame.

Yeah, Celtic vs Rangers is pretty bad

Also India vs Pakistan is bad, because India are so much better than them ;)

Man U vs Arsenal, the players seem to get very involved in it

I don't remember when it was, but last time the Avs and Wings played each other in the playoffs they sortof got into it. I don't remember everything exactly, but I do remember Kris Draper throwing someones stick into the stands, and Rob Blake cross checking him. Even without all the players, the rivalry is always going to make their games be quite a bit more aggressive and sloppy then the other games they will play.

Heh, if only it were that simple. The history of armed conflict between those nations gives their rivalry a dimension that is totally unique. Another which comes close is Croatia vs Bosnia Herzogovnia in football, but that doesn't involve a massive nation like India (Pakistan's no minnow either with about 150 million people).

Boca are working class from the less affluent area of Buenos Aires whereas River are the rich folks.

Celtic vs. Rangers

Glentoran vs. Linfield. They're both in Northern Ireland and it's a pretty intense rivalry. At the end of this season they played each other and Glentoran won, with a former Linfield player scoring the winning goal in the last minute. The fans went beserk and rioted on the pitch.

AC Milan vs. Inter

Right now in America, I'd say Yanks-Sox, because of last October.

I'd agree on what looozer said on the international soccer thing. ****, from what I've seen on ESPN over the years, that's pure hatred between the countries.

Also... Vancouver/Colorado.

Mainly because of the end of last season, but also because of how they always seem to play in the playoffs, and how they're always fighting for the top of the division.

Celtic vs. Rangers - Even moreso at the the moment as the league title was decided today and Celtic were about to win until their opponent scored two goals in the final minutes, meaning Rangers won the league by a point I think.

English vs. The Rest of the World - Seriously, instead of proper rivalries, they just seemed to make total arses of themselves when it comes to their support in sport. Just look at France '98 and Belgium/Holland 2000.
