Arguably the biggest show in racing.

It sucks that drivers like Billy Boat and Buddy Rice can be on the same trophy as Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt.
Autoweek had an article on who they think is gonna win, they put Dan Wheldon first, Helio Castroneves 2nd, and Tony Kanaan 3rd, I personally would hate to see Wheldon win, because he's a dick.
What are your opinions on the race.

Dan Wheldon 1st, Helio Castroneves 2nd. Sam Hornish 3rd
Or Sam Hornish 1st, Dan Wheldon 2nd, Danica Patrick 3rd..
The Indy 500 is THE ONE indycar race I will watch all year, I'll go out of my way to watch it. Untill Cart and IRL end their stupid Feud the racing will be a little watered down. Whats the deal with 11 cars or fewer finishing the event most of the time?
The Daytona 500 is creeping up on Indy, and unless the big two open wheel series's Re-Unite it won't be long before Daytona Catches it..

I'm hoping that Danica Patrick wins, and I figure that the ones broadcasting the race do too. Did anyone watch qualifying today? The way they were hyping her run was crazy, they were basically guaranteeing that she would get it. Also, every article in my local paper about the 500 has been about her. She's getting so much attention, makes me wonder if she really deserves it all.
My picks for the race
1. Sam Hornish
2. Helio Castroneves
3. Sebastian Bourdais
Yeah, Penske drivers again. Bleh. I hope Bourdais does a couple positions better than that, he's a really good driver no matter what he's driving.

I was going for Danica Patrick, too bad she screwed up on her first lap. That basically costed her a front row, and potentially the pole. I do agree that The Daytona 500 is getting almost as popular as the Indy 500.

The Andretti-Green drivers have been dominating lately, but yeah the last few years its been Penske, remember last year when both Ganassi drivers destroyed the cars scuffing the tires

I think that Chip Ganassi is starting to focus more on his Nextel Cup operation than his Indycar operation, he's done just about everything he can do in Indy and he's moved on to his next challenge.

Sorry to bump the thread
Right now it looks like Penske and Andretti-Green
Danica is most likely going to make some rookie mistakes because the race is long and the veterans probably won't help her much.

4th place....little more fuel in there and she coulda won. Hell of a run by Wheldon today!

First time I've ever watched Indy racing, and it was just to see Danica race. I felt bad for her when she lost 3 places in like a one lap. Oh well, looks like she'll contend in the series for a while.

The thing that pissed me off was that Dan Wheldon won, and all they cared about was Danica Patrick, I know its a big deal, but they didn't show the victory lap, the celebration, that is why i hate the media.
And that complete **** up that she had during the caution, that saved her, mistakes usually shouldn't help you
I'm not taking anything away from her, she ran a really good race, but you would think the winner would get some more recognition

She lost like 3 spots in the matter of 20 seconds

The quality of racing was really good today, they were really dicing around. There was the occasional mishap, but that's to be expected. I think that the IRL may just possibly have the best quality of racing there is, anybody agree? I'm not talking talent here, I mean the closeness of the competition.
And seriously, A.J. Foyt needs to stop hiring his relatives to race for him, they simply suck at what they do. He needs real race drivers who aren't there based on their last name.

^ they need more road courses, open wheel cars should drive on road courses

I agree, road courses probably are the truest test of a driver's skill, it involves a good bit more than just mashing the gas and turning left.

Thats part of what makes F-1 so popular, is the street courses. I would much rather watch someone turning left AND right, then just turning left for 500 laps.

I'd like to see Dan Wheldon in F1 in the near future. Juan Pablo Montoya, Jacques Villeneuve, Jim Clark and Graham Hill all won the Indy 500 before and they had great careers in F1.

I was lucky enough to be at the race. Quite an experience

F1 isnt all street races, only 2 are literaly on the street, but i its so much more fun to watch, and with different speed corners is interesting to watch the cars, etc etc.
I just watched the Indy500, nice to see a britishs person to win it. Whats with the milk? Dan weldon is rumored an F1 drive next year i beleave.

By street course I just meant a course that had both left and right turns, instead of one big oval.

I'd like to get into it more. I watched one race, and it was actually somewhat exciting....compared to nascar, which bores me to tears. Unfortunately, I dont think they show much F1 in the states, or at least I just never see it.

Its not very big over there for some reason. Throughout pretty much the rest of the world its huge, just not america. Im guessing its because of the carts, NASCAR etc. Which is all american teams and stuff pretty much. Theres an american race trying to generate interest, it dosnt seem to work though.
