why are these 3 bands grouped together in this thread.

Tomas Kalnoky basically was the mastermind behind all of them (well for catch 22 the keasbey nights era) is was i'm guessing.

why are these 3 bands grouped together in this thread.
They all have the same band leader.

Hey guys, that's cool at the end of 1234 1234, the M'festo version, they have those computer voices talking, do you know what they're saying? I know it has to do with the cover album but that's all I can hear...

Catch 22 still tours? Who sings with them?

Catchthe22
04-26-2006, 05:56 PM
Earlier in the thread it is mentioned what is being said. The CD was released March 7th? so id check the early March posts and see.

Kithkin
04-26-2006, 07:32 PM
It's actually probably mid-late february. We had it a bit earlier than the release date:)

The sax and trumpet player sing poorly when Catch tours. When I saw them a few weeks ago they only played a 3 songs each off of Alone and Keasby. The rest were split between new songs and Dinosaur.

If the Flatliners and the Loved Ones hadn't been so good...

From Whole Wehat Bread's Myspace Bulletin:

Got some exciting news today... we just learned we'll be touring the US in July/Aug with MXPX, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto & Transistion. Stay tuned for dates... we'll announce them as soon as we can.

and don't forget prior to that we've got all kinds of touring lined up... including the tour we're currently on w/ The Matches & MC Lars (see dates below). And don't forget this June it's the east coast and Canada with The Aquabats!

Brian Manifesto

yeah they are good, but this will be a really crowded ska show because of MXPX, plus Streetlight gained recognition from alot of people so it will be very crowded.

post from the official streetlight website...

so the cat is out of the bag here and there on the internet, so we may as well annouce it here too: this summer we will be doing a full north american tour with reel big fish, mxpx and our old friends whole wheat bread. although we're saving the bulk of our new material for our post-record-release headlining tours, we will be slipping new streetlight tunes in here and there. we're more excited than anything about getting our sophomore record out, so stay tuned for news on that in the upcoming months as well. as for the summer tour, we'll be annoucing dates soon, but be sure to buy tickets in advance as many of the shows will likely sell out.

...so, right from the source. can't wait.

There's a waning chance of me seeing SM with the Aquabats. If not, I'll just pray every night that BOTAR goes on tour after they put out their new album. Now that would be great. I would seriously pass up sex with three ladies to see that show.

Hmm, I think I'll wait for a headlining tour. Wait, I guess it depends. If MXPX are the headliners, I definately won't go. If it's RBF, I may be persuaded into going if tickets are cheap.

I saw Streetlight at Bamboozle yesterday. They were by far the best band of the day.Heres the set list

A new song
That'll be the day
Point/Keasbey Nights/Counter-point
Everything Went Numb
New song
Heres to Life

Also they were the only band that got encore calls at the end of their set. They couldn't give one though because another band started playing right as their set ended at the other main stage.

I met Delano and the trombone player in the actual club because they were behind the counter selling merchandise, but I got to go back to their van to talk to Tomas and Chris. Didn't get to have the deepest of conversations because they were leaving soon and I didn't want to bug him so we just did the usual "wow man tonight was amazing, great show you're an inspiration blah blah blah" and I got his signature on my ticket and a couple pictures with him.

I know this isn't what you were aiming for, but Big D and the Kids Table is probably my favorite band with Streetlight Manifesto right behind them.

Permanent Revolution is good. One of the better mainstream ska albums in the last couple years. It's a darker sound and overall better sound than Dinosaur Sounds and competes with Alone In the Crowd I would say. One thing I will say is that if you strongly hated Dinosaur Sounds, this album probably isnt going to change your views too much on the new Catch 22. However, it is better and different, so still worth a listen. When it is released and reviewed I plan on giving it a solid 4. Better than OK, but not Great.

There's a 5-track EP, that's it. One track is the original "Here's to Life", another is a cover of "Dear Sergio", and one is an intro. It's called "A Call to Arms", and it was just released by Victory (originally it was all hand-done...there's only a few out there..probably a couple hundred...anyone know?)

I missed the first song or two, due to venue mixups, ( we went to the fun house on queen street, instead on the Kool haus, on queens quae which is like a 30 min run) anyways. They played a new song, it was soo good and thomas said " we plan on putting out an album in 2007, so that means 2009"

The set in Grand Rapids was about this:

That'll Be The Day
Point/Counterpoint-Keasbey Nights Medley
A Moment Of Silence
New Song (Really good too)
Everything Went Numb
Here's To Life

The order to that may be a little messed up and they may have even done a new song to kick things off, I don't really remember though.

The show was ****ing awesome as you'd expect. The only problem was that Streetlight didn't play for quite as long as I wanted them too. When introducing the new song Tomas said "this is on the new album, which will probably never come out." But after Streetlight, RBF took forever to get on stage but it was worth it. They played Take On Me, Good Thing, Ban The Tube Top, Sell Out, Brand New Song, Cheer Up, She Has A Girlfriend Now, Beer, Everything Sucks, S.R. and also a bunch of stuff I didn't recognize. But they're encore was great. The grand finale was their killer cover of Op Ivy's Unity. That was one of the best songs of the night.

This is something I've been wondering about for a while now. What exactly is the plot of 'Kristina She Don't Know I Exist'? In the first verse, she doesn't know him, but then in the second, he "took her home so quietly", so it seems they're going out or something. But then in the chorus after the second verse he still says that she doesn't know he exists. I just don't get it.

Catchthe22
07-14-2006, 07:47 AM
Good question. The way I look at the storyline is this way. It starts off with the guy just having a big crush on her, but never talking to her. And then in photography class, he discovers a "contact print" (A photographic print). He does not believe it and finds her staring back at him. This is where it hints that on that print there is something Kristina did to tell him she likes him. So he takes her home and a little instrumental comes. Now I infer they are dating. Next thing you know she dropped him for some guy. The chorus in the beginning is very 'you dont know I exist' ,but towards the end it evolves to 'you dont know what you missed'. I cant really explain the chorus after the taking home of Kristina. Except the chorus does come before the instrumental so maybe she still doesnt know him until that "instrumental of late night talks and holding hands".

2.New Song
3.Point/Counterpoint mixed with Keasbey Nights
4.Failing/Flailing

I think I actually like Gimp's Supernothing more than Catch 22's. It's different anyway.

Any news on the new album from BOTAR or SM?

Henrik

I don't think so... A good guess for new Streetlight would be January 2007.

A teaser would be nice.

Henrik

A teaser could show us, how big expectations we should allow us self to have to a new album. At this point I have never ever in my life had so big expectations to an upcoming release before.

Last big one might have been Against Me! but they kind of disappointed.

Gimp is thomas's first band, when he was like 14.

and iv only seen Streetlight Once, Both other times they came it was on a school night.

Like Jess said: Tomas' first band. It was just him on guitar with bass and drums. I've heard people saying that the drummer was Chris from Catch 22, but I'm not sure about that. The styles is pop-punkish and sounds alot different than his later stuff.
Many people want to hear it because it contains an early version of "Supernothing", the song which later appeared on Rules of the Game and Keasbey Nights. The Gimp version is much slower and Has Tomas' Brother Archilles featuring on Violin.
It's decent considering Tomas' very low age when he wrote it, but it doesn't come close to the later material.

I thought Streetlight was way better live than Catch-22, but that's just one girl's opinion.

You're welcome.

I wondered: Does any live bootleg exist with the old Catch 22 line-up?

Hey people, I was just wondering which band you guys like the best out of the 3 (Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto and BOTAR.) And what is your fav song by them.

Me personally I love all 3 but Streetlight have to come out on top and Point/Counterpoint has to be my fav song.

Also....

Yeah man isnt it supposed to be called like "99 songs of the Revolution"? And its 99 songs some covers and some originals?

I knew it was called 99 Songs of Revolutions.

I didn't hear about it actually being 99 songs long. For the average length of a BOTAR song, that would have to be something like ten discs.

Oh wow. If it was actually 99 songs, and they were half of what the songs on A Call to Arms are, it'd probably be the greatest thing that ever happened.

AIRIC
08-29-2006, 11:36 PM
I highly doubt it will be 99 songs.

I'm sure it will be fantastic though. Tom never disapoints.
