what happened to the sweet bassline in on and on and on around 2:10?
its still there just it got overdubbed, one part played the roots, and the other part harmonized it in 3rds.
am the only ones who has the songs riding the fourth waves, and this one goes out to cut out on them. If someone has the versions of these 2 songs that work right could u please send them to me. thanks.
wait what? something about Riding the Fourth Wave and This One Goes Out To...but what about them? "am the only ones who has the songs" doesn't even make sense. Please, retype whatever you attempted to say, sensibly.

He's asking if anyone has versions of those 2 songs that don't cut off.
Chinese Democracy???
I want more BOTAR too.
China's supposedly moving toward democracy and having it really soon, but they're still a dictatorship. SM is supposedly working on a new cd and releasing it within this lifetime, but they're taking hella long

In the original version the 2nd version has the same lyrics as the first, In the new version streetlight wrote new lyrics for the 2nd verse, its pretty noticeable.

I think the only good thing about them releasing this album is that they can play this material live now.
Does anyone else think that the bass line at the start of walking away doesn't sound as good?

I thought it sounded just different. At least the line throughout the song is listenable this time.
I like both versions and I think I slightly preffer the bass line in the SM album.

This cd is stupid. It sounds exactly the same for the most part. they just pretty much took the one good thing away from catch 22 ( Personally i enjoy all of catch 22s stuff, but you know)
tappenzee
02-28-2006, 02:26 PM
They explain it all at the end of the CD. Yeah, it sounds the same, but the sound quality is a lot better. Just think of it as a re-release of Keasbey Nights and you'll sleep better at night.
I wish all bands re-recorded their material when they had a re-release of an album. Beats a couple layered drums thrown over the original tracks

Henrik
03-04-2006, 12:05 PM
If you look at their touring plan, you would see that they aren't lazy at all. I think the idea of remaking KN is fine. As long as it doesn't mean that we have to wait another two years for some new stuff.

Like most I was disappointed with it. Here are my random thoughts. I do have some bias because my favorite album is the original and has been for over 6 years. The more unchanged a song was the more I liked it. The new lyrics are nice of course and they should have done more of that. The horns might have been too "cookie cutter" recorded and I say that because they are lacking some spice and some character. I like the singing for the most part; not as good as I was expecting. I like the changes to Riding the Fourth Wave(guitar in beginning and flute). I thought they left the explosion effect out of 9mm, but I really liked the added horn line from 00:56-01:00. The singing in Kristina and Footsteps is very similar. Walking Away, 9mm, and Keasbey Nights were probably my least favorite remakes. I liked how Giving Up, Giving In sounded.
By the way Im new to the boards. Ive been reading them for a few weeks now though. C22, SM/BOTAR are all in my top 3 favorite bands, but i like a lot of ska. So ill be checking out this thread and the ska thread quite a bit. :thumb:

Well, if they've been playing the songs live, they should be able to do an album in a day or two.
The mixing would take a little longer than a normal band, but not too much longer. Compared to Drums and the guitar, horns are pretty easy to mix.

Wow its been about 5 months since I've been on Mx.
I got the album eariler today after volleyball pratice about 5:30. I have since listened to it almost 3 times straight through. I share some of the critism/opinons you guys have but mainly mine is smaller.
1.Ok the horns do kinda sound a bit on the Midi side at first but I got over that quickly
2. Horn players-so much better, crisper etc. I am a trombone player and personally believe the horn players are at their peak.
2a. Solos-the horn solos are incredible at times and at others just ok. I now like Walking Away because of the solos SLM
In short I love this album. It is justified simply by the concept of hearing them do 1234 1234 live

Okay, can someone do me a big favor?
In short: Can someone please send me Streetlight Manifesto's "Everything Goes Numb" (the album)? My e-mail is Crazynessdude3@aol.com
I don't own the album, but tis on my OTHER computer, that happens to be broken. And on Saturday, me and some friends are going to the State Theater to see Motion City Soundtrack(it was a birthday present for my friend, I'm just going to hang with friends), and on the way there, I need a cd to listen to.
And with my other friend who's coming with me, we're used to going to the State Theater for ska concerts, and this will be our first ska-less show there. So in memory of our favorite show ever there, and out of any concert we've ever been to, I wanna listen to the whole Streetlight album.
Soooo, anybody wanna hook me up?

Catch 22 is coming out with a new CD this summer(late June) and im pretty pumped. It's called Permanent Revolution. Kevin(the trumpet/vox) said that this album is going to be more punk style(maybe more like Alone In A Crowd). Some bash them after Tomas left but i still think they are great. There last cd wasnt the best but it had a handful of good songs in my opinion. And if Lament and some of the songs are to be a sign of whats to come, i have a good feeling of this one. I see C22 compared to Pink Floyd; Syd Barrett(guitar/songwriter/vox) started it off for Pink Floyd and wrote the first album and first 2 hit singles and after he left the band the music changed quite dramatic. It just happens. Pink Floyd ended up writing all there well known stuff after that.

Yeah, it was just recorded in a basement over about 2 years.
Streetlight would put on a much cooler show than Pennywise, I'd imagine.
But not h20, who are one of the best live bands around.
Streetlight is great live, but they benifit from great source material. H20's stuff is a good but generic hardcore, and popularity comes directly from their live show.

Yea nevermind I got it.
I just downloaded a live DK video.
Oh my god, none of you have seen Streetlight live? I saw them with the Tossers in Atlanta and they were AMAZING.
20 July 2004, Nick's Fat City, opening acts: Suckerpunch Thompsons, Radiobomb, The Lemmiwinks, the Know How
16 June 2005, Mr. Small's Theatre, opening acts: Feeding Zeus, Hope on a Rope, Gym Class Heros, Whole Wheat Bread
I went to the 2004 show to see the Lemmiwinks. I had a Lemmiwinks shirt and a Streetlight cd and patch when I went home.

Yeah, it just totally messed with the whole "feel" (for lack of a better word) of it. I mean, where did the cool bends and other instances of bass sexiness go? Perhaps I'm being way too critical (probably), but I just thought that the original was perfect.
And I agree with JR. I was looking for some nice changes, like new lyrics or different horn parts. And, like you, I was somewhat disappointed in that department. It just so happens that one change they did make was on my favorite song.

BOTAR's version, because I heard it first. Streetlight's sounded wierd because of that. Still good, but wierd.
I'm feeling the same way, but the other way around.
But after listening to both versions in a row I stand with my first thought. I also like the streetlight lyrics better.
Don't really understand the botar lyrics too.
Bonus info: this thread has reached 100 pages.

You guys hit on other things Ive thought about the choruses that I didnt really want to say because I wanted fresh thoughts. I heard BOTAR version first and thought it went well but that I didnt really get the content of it. The Streetlight one I thought was more akward but that I understood the connection of the lyrics better.

I'm happy because my "band" is going to play Madness - One Step Beyond in the battle of the bands.
We're also playing Estradasphere, Herbie Hancock, Moondog, and Frank Zappa.
It's exciting.
Quite an interesting mix there.
Also, who let you out of the DIY thread again?
streetlight because i heard it first and the above reasons are true but for SM.
botARS is good, just not what i was used to.
Quite an interesting mix there.

The question should've been "why does your post have nothing to do with catch, streetlight, or botar?"
My answer? I thought this was the ska thread.
