I saw Streetlight the other night and they all had so much energy it woulda been hard to have believed that they were gonna split up at the time, besides, Tom goes through so many band members that this time it's not as if Streetlight are an actual "band" that can fall out and stuff, more just a bunch of musicians playing with Tom Kalnoky. Yeah, I see your point about not releasing another album though 'cos I guess it's pretty hard to be creative when it's like that.

For anyone interested I also got to see the Skatalites live on the exact same night, which was amazing. It meant missing the Skatalites 6 encores but it was worth it

Honey, Riding the Fourth Wave starts with a tin whistle, not a flute. It's too high pitched and metallic to be a concert flute. A piccolo has the pitch, but it's still more hollow sounding. In Christina, it's a concert flute. And, well, Walking Away doesn't have a flute at all. I don't think I've the theory knowledge to compose a flute part for it either. I don't do jazz, just classical. That reminds me that I need to learn jazz flute. Classical flute gets a bit boring. And I need to get a piccolo. And a tin whistle. And a trumpet. And a valve trombone...wow, that'd be really expensive to get all that....****...oh well, good thing I work at a music store!

How? Flute's sooo much easier than a reed instrument. With a reed you gotta figure out how to shape your mouth all funny and make it tight so your cheeks don't puff and bite just right. With a flute, you blow air across/diagonally-across the hole in the same exact way as you would blow on a soda bottle. You know how you can blow on a soda bottle and get a loud flutey noise? It's the exact same thing. Just keep your mouth loose and centred over the hole with the mouth piece just resting against your lower lip. If you need to practice how to get a sound (shouldn't be hard since it's the same as a bottle, but whatever) take off the mouthpiece and block the end with the soft part of your right hand below your thumb. You might need to rotate toward or away from you to figure out exactly what angle to hold it, but it's not that hard. Clarinets though? Those are a little tougher. I can get sounds out of them, but concentrating on keeping my mouth all funny shaped and tight and all is hard.

I think its whatever your used to. alot of people find brass the hardest, because if you havnt been taught how to buzz its hard to make a sound. Reed instruments are very easy to pick up.

Speaking for the band geeks oboe basson and french horn are hard as ****. Buzzing comes pretty easily(but this is coming from a trombone player so....)

Well, regardless, a tin whistle at the same pitch as the last note in Walking Away could transition into 4th Wave. I'm not talking anything complicated, just a simple segue

Nobody knows for sure, the band has been really secretive about everything and hasn't released any new information in a long time. However, two new songs were recorded at live shows and are up on a fansite.

wow, a full page of talk about a flute in the punk forum, hardcore guys :P

I'm taking grade 9 music right and playing trombone, its probably the easiest (im in grade 12, not 9) but the tin whistle is way cooler than a flute, and so is a pan flute. so stop talking about it.

I don't think it's gonna be a straight-up note for note remake, I'm expecting an entire re-interpretation of the album. I'm all for it, Tomas needs to take his lyrics back and turn them into something else brilliant. I can't wait to hear it.

I'm sure all the robberies are gonna slow down production though. I'm expecting an album early 2007, 4th quarter 2006 at the earliest

I just got back and it was great. Big D played better imo, but it was still great. I never skanked so hard haha. The Tossers were pretty cool too.

Big D did this "worst drummer" contest and Dave lead the thing. The drummers were Ryan from Catch 22, The guitarist from Big D, someone from Westbound Train and a girl from the audience. Of course the girl won, which kinda isnt a good thing since the contest was the worst drummer, but it was fun none-the-less. Dave said Big D only does this on their last show for the year so I guess it was cool to see it.

They were good when they opened for Reel Big Fish. They're an Irish-punk band that predates Flogging Molly... though Flogging Molly does it better.

The Tossers are more folk, they're not that fast. FLogging Molly is more punk fueled and are a lot faster.

It was awesome really. Except the Tossers didn't really do it for me and I don't know Westbound Train. I think I might have seen FloggingMurphy. I saw a person in a Streetlight shirt, who looked (I think) like the picture he put up awhile ago.

I saw 3 ppl in Op Ivy hoodies. Was yours a zip-up hoodie? I definently saw you, just don't know which one you were haha. I should have asked all of the ppl in Op Ivy hoodies till I found you, but me and my friends were too busy skanking haha.

I didn't wear mine in. I contemplated it, but figured I'd be too hot. I was right. I was in my Briefs t-shirt. You may or may not have seen it, but oh well. Yeah, I was busy skanking too.

Well I'm gonna assume that you play guitar, and for the guitar parts the chords for the entire thing are just A, D, A, E, A, D, A, E, etc... all the way through. Play open chords, slightly slower for the intro and then turn them into "barré" ( or "ska" ) chords for the rest, I'm fairly certain that there are no other chords but the ones I mentioned, although the E is played an octave higher when barré'd, if I'm wrong then I just have faith in you to work out the rest of the chords.

Congrats on 1000th post, by the way.

Last time I saw Streetlight, their drummer was like "Hey haven't I seen you at like 6 of our shows?" I was thinking 'hey that's pretty cool he remembers me....oh god maybe I go see that band too much.'

I was wrong, you can't see that band too much. I see the error of my ways now. I'm just glad they're not coming back anytime soon, cus I've run out of money for tickets/travel/merch.....No actually I wish they were coming back. My favourite is the one with "The revolution will not be amplified" on it, but I didn't fix the paint right (gotta make mistakes to learn) and when I washed it the green top layer faded supremely. Looks kinda cool now, but I thought it looked awesome when I first did it.

He never said January 20th. Nor did he ever say he was re-making Keasby Nights. He has said nothing since mid 2004 when he said a few things on Streetlight's website about an album full of non-new material that was supposed to come out a mid/late 2004.

We know they play new songs live. We can assume that there are more they haven't played live (here's to life was the only EGN song they'd played before they recorded the album).

On that fact and assumption, we can assume the next album won't be the one he talked about in mid 2004. The way victory did EGN was SM recorded the songs and then victory gave them money to master them and then distributed the album. Victory doesn't have anything to do with the creative process and is essentially just a distributor for SM. Victory probably can't put much pressure on SM to record anything because the risc group owns the material.

Thomas is terrible about releasing new material though. BOTAR's website still says that they will be releasing something in the near future... and their last update was 12/03.

As great as it would be if something came out on 1/20, getting your hopes up would be a foolish move.

hahahhaha we dont have that problem in pittsburgh...every kid on stage crew at my school is pretty much required to love streetlight...if they dont at first, they end up loving it because that's all they will play during meetings and setting things up. ska's still pretty cool in this city.

i took this from another streetlight forum and thought i would pass it along to you guys...

"Sooooooo, I just got the victory records catalog, and in the "this year from victory records....." section, there is Keasbey nights 2, with a legit release date and album cover. The cover is a simple yellowish cover with "Keasbey Nights as performed by streetlight manifesto" in the middle. The release date is 3/7/06"

here's a link to the picture that he was talking about...

I can't see why the new catch 22 album should be against Tomas. I have never ever heard any of the two (ex catch vs new catch) saying that they hated each other. And if they did, why should streetlight have a catchmember to be their agent.
The only prove is the line in a moment of silence, but that could just as well be about something else.

Henrik

who....catch 22 and Streetlight manifesto??? Nope.

3 members from catch 22 (including the songwriter and singer) broke out and some years later they formed Streetlight with guys from One cool guy.

Catch 22 continued with new members and a very different sound.

BOTAR are some people from SM and other guys playing acoustic ska. I think there's Thomas' brother there too.

Keasbey Nights is arguably one of the best ska-punk albums in existence. Catch 22 minus Tomas is still a mediocre ska group, but knowing that at one time they made Keasbey Nights, it's hard to listen to their newer stuff.

I think so. Not as much as DS though.
The song on Alone in a crowd that IMO reminds the most of Keasbey nights is What goes around comes around. That's by far by favorite non-keasbey nights song too:).
