I was looking back through the old pages of this, and it got me thinking. It seems to be popular belief that the current lineup of Catch 22 should stop singing Tomas' songs from Keasby Nights. Some of you believe its because they ruin the songs, and if thats your opinion, fine, I have no problem with that. However, some say its not fair because they are getting paid for performing Thomas' songs, and this is where my argument is:

1) Did anyone complain this much when Jeff Davidson was in the band singing the Keasby nights songs? If people did, they certinley werent as vocal about it as they are when Ryan and Kevin from the current lineup sing them. If you really think about it, Ryan and Kevin have more of a right to sing them than Jeff ever did, they may not have written the songs, but at least they were part of the band when the songs were actually written.
2)Most of the drama between Thomas and the members of Catch 22 has been downplayed in interviews latley, to the point that Kevin of Catch 22 actually does booking for Streetlight. If the members of Catch 22 have some kind of aggrement with Thomas where hes ok with them playing his songs, who are we to say that they shouldent perform them?

Again, if your problem with Catch 22 playing Keasby songs is because you think they suck at it, fine then, but if your problem is in them cashing in on old songs, those facts should be considered first.

When I put something in the basket it keeps disappearing by it self. It seems like I can only buy one thing at the time. Something must be wrong; I have never experienced it before.

Any remake will be a good one as long as Thomas is singing. They released Everything Goes Numb in 2003 I believe. They're very due for new material, and an album of just Catch 22 covers would be dull and disappointing.

Dear Sergio, Keasbey Nights, Giving up giving in, 9 mm(?), Day in and out...more?

Thats all of them. They cover a song off of the Rules of the Game demo called I'm Better than You.

They won't be re-recording Keasby Nights. That note by them came out like a year and a half ago and probably signaled an album/ep they would release to hold fans over between Everything Went Numb and the new album they're releasing in the near future.

But they never got around to recording it and they probably never will.

Keasby Nights II was only on Amazon and Victory. If you wanted to make money, put the bet on the fact that some exec at Victory thought calling the next album they release Keasby Nights II would create a lot of buzz and people on forums everywhere would be discussing what that ment.

Don't trust a damn thing unless it comes from Thomas. That man controls the band with an iron fist.

Yeah, I'm not good enough on bass to play an SM, I don't think. I think I could handle some KN, but idk, so I have no idea on accuracy.

Liebensaft
11-04-2005, 05:57 AM
Well I'm pretty sure the bassist in SM uses a 5-stringer most of the time which could be difficult to replicate with 4 strings. But that intro is slow and all high notes.

maco
11-04-2005, 08:41 AM
I forgot about the 5 string thing...yeah, 4 strings would require shifting down the neck a little more often than he does...I've only tried That'll Be the Day and Here's to Life I think. As far as Catch, on Keasby Nights I need to pick up speed a lot and get the rhythm down. I attempted Walking Away and *wow*! That's haaard. Actually, my teacher was like "I can't even play this...this'd take like a half hour straight of just this song and nothing else every day for a month for me to get." An upright would help for that though I think since there are some things in there that just don't work without fretless.

albert_bass
11-04-2005, 09:45 AM
There's a tab of "A Better Place A Better" time that kind of works but it's not very good.

And playing with a 4 string is not that difficult you just have to know it won't sound exact but it doesn't really matter. I'd tab some SLM song but I don't have time and also I probably lack tabbing skills.

Kithkin
11-04-2005, 12:42 PM
Somebody tabbed one of the songs.

Recorded they're pretty straight forward. The new bassist plays stupidly fast.

It's like the difference between "Walking Away" and "Maxwell Murder," for a bass, fast doesn't = good.

albert_bass
11-04-2005, 03:12 PM
I don't think he plays stupidly fast. He plays fast where it's needed and slow where it's not. Maybe he overuses his speed a little bit but I don't think it's that bad. More like the other thing, I love this bass lines.

My GPA is a 3.57. I declare myself to be the most intelligent person to post on this page.

Your gpa has very little to do with your intelligence. I coasted through my high school's highest level classes with a 3.24 gpa but I never studied or did much of my homework.

Also, it depends on what school you go to (mine was one of the top ranked public schools in PA) and what classes you take (mine were either AP or CPA)

I bet Tomas aced every English and creative writing class he had to take.

I doubt it. Creative writing maybe, but English classes have nothing to do with your ability to write and only your ability to b.s.

In high school at least. English was my worst class in high school. Now I'm an english major.

Without a doubt. I'm good at creative writing too, I'm thinking of being a journalist when I grow up. :)

Those two don't go together. I'm an arts and entertainment editor for a local paper and even we frown on creative writing. Journalism and creative writing aren't the same thing.

I'm a creative writer, but I understand the difference. Some of my writers don't and I have to cut out their pretty language and just preserve the meat.

If you want to be a journalist, start now and work for your school paper and learn AP style.

Did Jaime Egan leave too?

Yeah, a while ago. He did the trumpet and trombone on the album, so they never really had an original trombone player.

thats catch 22 he did both trumpet and trombone, on streetlight they had a trombone player for the cd. And Thomas and Jim Conti are the only original members left of the band.

I'm not sure about Catch 22, but I'm positive Jamie Egan played both on Everything Goes Numb.

On Everything Goes Numb, he played trumpet and trombone. On Keasby Nights, he played trombone, flute, french horn, irish tin whistle, and did some vocals. So he didn't play trumpet on Keasby Nights, it was Kevin Gunther. I'm getting all of this from the booklets for both CD's.
