No way. They're the most talented 3rd wave band. They get that. Besides I know more people who don't like them that people who like them.

4 like - more than 10 dislike
Most talented =/= Best.

They are good but no way is their album the fourth best punk album ever which the users of this forum seem to think it is.

I think it is. actually I can't find an album that I enjoy more than Everything went numb.

The recording quality on Keasby Nights isn't exactly great. That alone leaves a lot of room for improvement.

I don't think they are simply covering all the songs on Keasby Nights. I'm simply saying that if they did, the album would have better versions of the songs.

They keep pushing it back because they keep loosing band members.

Covers that sound like the original are talentless bar band covers. The point of a cover is to reinterpret it.

I am looking foward to Keasbey 2, and knowing Streetlight, they spend an incredible amount of time on it, and come out with a good, orignial record.

My 2 cents.

Yeah that's true. But most talented in my opinion means they're all talented musicians and also write awesome songs. There's not a bad song on the album and everything fits perfectly from the drums to the bass and the horns. Everything. That's why they're talented and the best 3rd wave band in my opinion.

No, there will be no Keasby Nights 2.

let be realistic folks. There is absolutely no way SM is covering Keasbey Nights. its definetly new material. 2, botar will not put out an album in your lifetime. and 3, i'll be at the pony show, my 8th, on june 18th. roll call?

Some news from SLM said there would be no new material on the new album, which means remakes of Catch 22, SLM, and BOTAR songs.

"2"

hi guys, the following is very esoteric, be forewarned:
(thank you, knowles, for the vocabulary word)

the whole "2" debacle is half truth, half fiction. very few people know what actually is going down and those people, ironically, are the only ones keeping quiet. people will speculate and talk trash regardless, so be it. at the end of the day, we're simply doing something we believe in, a part of a whole that won't be entirely unveiled for quite some time. everyone sit tight, it'll all come together eventually, then you can judge.

this we can tell you:
a) there are no numbers involved. don't even ask how that happened, it's ridiculous

b) no new songs, really. but you'll be surprised, hopefully pleasantly.

c) we're doing this to prevent you from spending money unnecessarily. you'll understand that soon as well.

d) trust us. we try to do the right thing as much as possible, and our number one priority, as always, is the music.

i guess that about covers it, for now. pay attention, things will be announced when they're announced. and, as we learned over the last few days, never trust ANYONE'S news regarding sm unless you hear it here.

June 15th...

Was your show canceled like ours? I was so ready to go, when all of a sudden I got a phone call from the booking agent from the venue telling me to tell eveyone I knew that it was canceled... Arghh!!!

I really like their music, favorite song is Point/Counterpoint. Though I don't have high expectations for Keasbey Nights II because I think that the Catch 22 version could not be improved upon. And if it can be, not very humanly possible.

I did go to the Slackers on saturday though... the best sounding live band I have ever heard in my life. That is ranging from metal, to ska, to jazz, and to classical.

Best Ever...

Not to my knowledge. I'ld be PISSED if it was. I've been looking forward to tonight for a while.

How so, this is our fourth official thread. They have 20, Pop-punk has three, Alt & Indie have a couple. It needs to be done when there is always threads on a band. And its not like ours get constantly bumped like R&M. There is still thousands of bands out there to make threads about.

every song flowed into eachother perfectly.
oh man, and they put keasby nights in the middle of point counterpoint as like an extended bridge. it was really weird but sounded fricking awesome. he did the same thing in failing flailing with 9mm and a 3 piece suite. best concert ive ever been to

sketchyjoe
06-05-2005, 06:47 PM
I only go against the trend when the trend isn't very good. Streetlight Manifesto are a decent band. Technically gifted with a few good songs but I could name ten better ska-punk bands off the top of my head. They sound like a band that would be great live but on the album they just don't cut it. It sounds like a mess of fast, technically skillful (but not particularly enjoyable) musicianship, standard lyrics with a few nice turns of phrase and over-enthusiastic shouting. They're also one of the least ska ska-punk bands around.

Big D are hit and miss live. The were amazing at Warped 2 years ago and not very good opening for Mustard Plug in pittsburg a few months before that.

The Suicide Machines on the other hand, are probably the best live band you will ever see. They and The Living End are the only bands that I have ever seen where paying ~30 for a ticket was worth a short set (warped for Suicide Machines and TLE opened for The Vines/Jet)

It will not have a number in the name (so no Keasby Nights 2)
It will have no new songs. So they will probably be taking songs from Keasby era Catch, old SLM, and BOTAR stuff (hopefully Here's to Life)

I hope they announce more soon.

Hi guys, Yesterday way the time of my life! me and my band played with Streetlight Manifesto in Montreal, it was totally amazing, we had the buffet before the show, the beer etc ... all this for free hehe! we play the first part with a jam pack room ... like 300 ppl maybe 350 . After our set i talk to the drummer and ask him if he wanna smoke a joint but he refused cause he smoked like 5 before i ask him hehehe.

When they start playing it was totaly amazing, the first song was A moment of violence followed by moment of silence, ? , ? , that ill be the day, failling flailing, everthyng went numb, after that i go back stage cause oh my god it was a goddam oven over there lol! in conclusion, they are great in show, they look shy with other band lol but there still very nice with them!

Streetlight playing Keasbey nights live. The sound quality is not that well cause it's hard to hear the bass and the guitar. But it does has the last part of point/counterpoint in it.

Yes, you're right, half the members of old Catch 22 plus a few other people who are about the same age, all of whom have had say... An extra ten years to hone their skills on their respective instruments, and work on their performance, obviously DON'T have the same talent as an 18-year-old high school band.

While I disagree with him too, he does have the right to believe what he wants. I personally think he just worded it wrong, I think he meant Catch 22 had a chrisma that can't be matched, because it's obvious on a tech. level, they've all improved. The old Catch 22 and One Cool Guy team was very good to begin with though.

i dnt think there's any way that streetlight will ever be as good as older catch 22.... they just don't have the same talent. when streetlight manifesto play catch 22 songs live, they sound crap..

You would have been about 13 when Thomas left the band. 13 year olds are rare at shows with national touring artists and essentially nonexistant at local shows. I know two people who have seen thomas with Catch 22 and both are older than me and big parts of the New Jersey ska scene at the time. So I am curious how you are able to compare SM's live to Catch 22's.

When SM play them live, they don't sound like crap, they sound live. They don't sound like they do when they are recorded because... well... they aren't in a studio doing multiple takes to get everything perfect.

Yeah I think they made 200 of the original, with artwork and stuff.
Then they probably made a couple hundred more with just the cover in, like Kith has, which they sent out with late Streetlight orders.

I don't have one.

So I just got back from the show in Albany, Thomas said not only is Streetlight recording this summer, but BOTAR as well. Anyway, the show ruled like always, the floor was very slippery because people kept throwing water everywhere, and a really big fat girl crowd surfed on top of my head. She was wearing a tiny tennis skirt, and her massive thighs were on my shoulders, it was vile. Besides that, good times were had by all.

As disgusting as Saratoga Winners can be at times, I still love it. I like to drive around the northeast U.S. to go to different shows, and Winners is still one of my favorite places. Toads Place in New Haven CT is awesome as well. As far as the smell, it might have something to do with the large landfill that is located about a mile down the road. There is a huge methane torch that blows off excess gas and makes the area around the club smell like sulfur. On certin nights, where the wind is blowing just right, the stench will make it into the place. Other than that, I think it smells like any other place with a bunch of sweaty people would.

Well, since im bored, and I thought people may find it interesting, my friend was good enough to get me a Victory Records magazine when she went to bamboozle. There were interviews with pretty much every band on the label, and in the Catch 22 interview, the guy asked Kevin the trumpet player about any animosity between Thomas and the remaining Catch 22 members. This is it word for word:

Interviewer: Now, I hate to bring this up, but im curious. Ive heard rumors of bad blood between the current crew (of Catch 22) and Thomas Kalnoky, now of Streetlight, is there truth to that?

Kevin: At the time Tom quit...um...I hate it when pepole say 'he left on good terms,' because as far as im concerned, unless the person is sick or they have a wierd situation, for the most part people dont leave bands on good terms, because if its good terms, they wouldent freakin leave, you know what I mean? It was ****ty when he left and theres a lot of comparisons with the newer lineup to the older lineup and naturally it frustrated a lot of us. I think most of the bad blood was blown out of proportion, i dont really think it was anything 'real deal.' As of right now, to be honest with you, our relationship hasnt been better in five years. Im actually working with his new band doing some booking for them, and some of the guys in our band have talked and sorted some stuff out. It was a tough situation when he left, we were all really hurt by it, but i think for the most part its all bull****.

Yeah they played a bit of Nirvana one when I saw them.

One of the best quality shows I have is Detroit 2-5-05 (although I think the date is wrong), well it's pretty good quality anyway, and it's got Point/Keasbey Nights/Counterpoint on it.

Also the show at the Bottom Lounge 7/25/04 is pretty good. Apart from that, obviously the Rutgers show is good quality.

The Tunbridge Wells show is absolutely shocking quality (recorded by a dodgy mic on a mini disc player) but if you were at the UK tour you might be interested in downloading it because the setlist is pretty much a carbon copy of the whole tour, you know you might want it for sentimental reasons (I still enjoy listening to it).

If you've got the Streetlight Keasbey Nights video from PunkRockVids.com, I'm in the front row in the middle there, so you might see me. If you have the Duff Muffin video from there as well, I am most definitely standing at the front there, I am ashamed to say I am the only one not moving, haha. Holden Caufield is a character in 'The Catcher in the Rye', and by "a character" I mean the main character. The book follows him around for a few days, and it's a f'ucking great book. That book has changed many peoples lives.

Hemingway- Famous writer, and pretty well known for being a dick. My favorite book by him is "A Farewell To Arms" but it's a downer book. He wrote tons though, many short stories aswell that you can find online.

Salinger was the guy who wrote "The Catcher in the Rye". That was his first novel, and he never published anything again. He wrote for the rest of his life(If he died- I honestly don't know, I've looked but can never find information on him) and never published a thing. After his books success, he became a hermit from the media.

Camus- Another writer, wrote things like "The Stranger", "The Plague", "The Rebel". Very good writer, he died in 1960 in a car accident driving to Paris. Some people say he drove off the road and killed himself. Honestly, I don't know. I could have the wrong person, all I know is I've read many books by Camus and he died too young.

Tenpinster.

And for those of you who aren't strong lovers of this band like I am:
Gimp -> Catch 22 -> Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution -> Streetlight Manifesto.
Gimp was Tomas's first band, they were a punk band with a little ska, that later became Catch 22 after adding a trumpet(shortly followed by more brass).

i've been listening to streetlight manifesto for about 4 months and after falling in love with them, I decided to go out and buy Keasby Nights which I like just as much if not more then streetlights self titled album, does anyone know when streetlight is going to come out with a new cd or if catch 22 is gonna tour again after streetlights tour is finished? (i think they're still on tour)

Tomas is well out of Catch 22 and will never return. Streetlight is supposed to put out a new album around Christmas time this year. "Jan 2006" according to Victory.

I was going to SLM, but played poker instead. Must have been the 5th time I was going to see them and ended up not going to see them.

Just incase anyone wants it, I have the Gimp CD on Soulseek now.

Can't you please upload it in the YSI thread?? Which of the orginal members of Catch were also in Gimp? How many copies excist of that cd?

Does anyone read the streetlight/botar message boards? You can read through 100 threads and still only learn about five facts. Apparently, the next botar album will be called 99 songs of the revolution, and might all be covers.

Unless of course, thomas uncharacteristically changed his mind

I can't give you facts on this, and for that I apologize, but I will try. From what I've been told the core Catch 22(drums, guitar, bass) were Gimp. Tomas got bored with punk though, so they added a trumpet(Kevin?) and thought it sounded a little thin, so they added trombone aswell. That CD only had a very limited number of copies(Look at BOTARs first release).

Yeah, I do. There have been rumors of that CD name for a matter of years though. Tomas said in an interview(which I posted early in this thread I believe) that the CD will have 99 songs on it. No one is sure but him though.

can someone clear this up

And that site is a lot faster than the one I gave. Plus it has a streetlight concert

edit: I have a stupid question. Who runs skachilles? Is it thomas's brother achilles?

Mealticket is a ska band from southern California. Was a band, I should say. SkAchilles hosted it for personal reasons and just sort of left it up... forever.

I know SkAchilles owns it, but 3 people(including him) pay for it. I'm not sure the relationship to SM, but I assume it's something stronger than a fan. It started when Tomas left Catch 22 or something, the members there went from Catch 22 forums to those and got to keep their post count(in May 2002). I believe SkAchilles real name is "Matt"(I think he posted that once).

Gimp was probably just as good as Catch 22- I enjoy their version of "Supernothing" more than Catch 22's. But Catch 22 did do a lot more stuff by adding horns.

ScuzzBucket89
07-07-2005, 11:52 PM
^ i think every punk band sounds better if you add horns, even when rancid came out with "Life Wont Wait" I thought that was better then alot of their earlier stuff

For whom it may concern:

I have uploaded "Rules of the Game" to SoulSeek - Tenpinster.
This was Catch 22's demo before KN. It has 2 songs that never made it to KN on it. Only a few hundred copies were made and they were cassette, so quality isn't perfect, but fun to listen to.

Have a good day.

Right now you can't, they are redoing their webstore. But when it comes back up, go to www.streetlight.com --> Store --> Shop online.

There you are. (And for those of you who ask "Why not use www.acousticbandits.com and go to that store? Well, their link to the store doesn't work.)

BOTAR didn't really become SM. They're both just part of Risc. Tomas's little doodle explaining it all:

Kid, what are you talking about? Are you a complete idiot? I HATE flaming people, I always try to use logic, but wtf? Are you being sarcastic or something?

Do you think Catch 22 BECAME Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution? Dear god, slap yourself!

The arrows were following Tomas from band to band, kid. He was in BOTAR who put out a demo, then he did Streetlight, who put out a CD.

What is wrong with you?

Edit: If you said that just so you could post something we've all seen(Or I'd hope- You may find your note there is about 4 years old) then just post it. You don't need a reason to post something related to Tomas.

I found this interesting.

This incarnation of Gimp, is mainly for the sake being put in roles different than you are normaly put into. So, until we go record, you can hear the real gimp, then expect the new gimp to have a show in the near future, this is a one shot deal.

I guess some people in texas started a Gimp cover band?

edit: also, who did the original version of "One Tin Soldier"? I can't quite remember, and it's been bugging me.

I saw Catch 22 yesterday, and I give them credit. Theyre starting to get alot better. Half their set was newer stuff and the other half was Keasbey Nights stuff. I could have gotten a massive erection when they ended with Keasbey Nights had I not been crush the whole time.

the old catch 22 was so0o0o0o much better live, there was a lot more energy with tomas. im not as much into the 3rd wave im more into two tone, but botar has to be my fav 3rd wave band. there a group of some of the most talented musicians ive herd.

I looovee The old Catch 22. I'm absolutely infatuated with Streetlight Manifesto. And of course there's no denying the amazing talent behind BOTAR. I never heard of this Gimp thing until just now. Me likey that one too. I heard that Tomas Kalnoky wrote all the music for Here's To Life (The Botar version at least). True? Are there more songs he's single handedly written? I never get to see bands play live (besides local rock bands). I hate Hawaii with a passion.

Thomas writes everything, from the lyrics down to the drums and horn section parts. I guess that everyone gives input, and things are changed here and there, but he has the final say about everything.
