The backing vocals are the best yet based on 3 sound clips. They all sounded in tune for once :P

I hope some of the songs are long cause else it'll be a very short album with only 10 songs on it.
Would've liked a few more tracks.
SkaRobotArmy
09-08-2007, 05:02 PM
nah, i think it will be good this way, no filler. and streetlight songs are always longish. its taken them years to put this out, i don't think they would release such a short album.

SkaRobotArmy

the demo is EGN with less songs?
Liebensaft
09-08-2007, 11:56 PM
No, I think one side is a new song and the other is something from EGN. I dunno. Nothing worthwhile, really, but someone's going to get an e-blowjob from 6,000 ska nerds if they can get the thing on OiNK soon.

You know what's ultra-lame?
They're going on tour with Anti Flag.
What's funny is that when they said it on stage, Jeff went into a rant about how Anti-Flag suck, and this little girl is standing on the edge of the pit wearing an Anti-Flag shirt. She looked so sad.

Wow that sucks, can't you get one before the show?
I never got why venues make shows that are +18.
And I've actually never experienced it myself either. I'm not sure id it's legal to do so over here.
DrummerJonny
09-19-2007, 01:38 AM
its cos it makes it 10x easier for the bar if its 18+ cos they dont have to worry about kids trying to get served.
it also costs the bands more to play if they want an under 18 show, in some places anyway...
Kithkin
09-19-2007, 03:46 PM
It's also nice to not have little kids everywhere. Especially the ones who are there only because they have nothing better to do on a saturday, stand up in the front and slightly bob their heads.

i saw streetlight a couple of weeks ago in toronto and it was awesome. the only beef i had with it was that they didn't play the saddest song, which is my personal favorite on the album. can anyone link me to a video or anything of them playing it live?
Catchthe22

i wouldnt want to be sad at a concert. Im on Streetlight's side of this issue.
SkaRobotArmy
09-20-2007, 08:42 AM
naw, its still a wicked awesome song. but who cares, some people people like to actually watch the band and enjoy the music and not get disgusting and sweaty\brutalized.
i like a good mixture of both except in streetlights case, went in the first song and never left.
Catchthe22
09-20-2007, 09:43 AM
I was joking about the sad thing of course, but i agree with the mix of songs. Flogging Molly has a good mix from fast punk to slow anthems and I enjoyed them more just because of the variety.
Henrik

The Big Sleep is one of the best songs on EGN, and the saddest song is so freakin catchy...
Failing, Flailing is really really weak on the album, but so unbelievably amazing live.

You kidding? Failing Flailing is one of my favourite on EGN.
The whole thing just seems like it lacks energy, and it seems like a filler song. When they play it live it sounds like it got a kick in the ***. I'm not saying the song is weak, but the recording on the album definitely is.

I think the ending of Failing, Flailing totally saves the song. I love that part.

OK, right, so to the right of this window you can find more details about the upcoming shows, as in links to the venues and links to buy tickets. As we get more ticket links, we will be putting them up, so check back often. From the ticket counts so far, a good number of these shows are well on their way to selling out so please, please, please buy your tickets in advance. Too often after the shows we meet upset fans that couldn't get into the venue after driving for hours, due to it being sold out. Don't let it happen to you.
Our record release show/party will be in Boston on Nov 13th (the day the record officially comes out) so bring the champagne! Unfortunately the record comes out 4 days after our hometown New Jersey show... Well, we pulled some strings, begged, pleaded and we are super happy to announce we will be allowed to sell the new record at the Jersey show on the 9th (our beloved Starland Ballroom), four days before it's out in stores and on the web! To show our appreciation to our NJ friends we will be giving out a signed (by the whole band) poster with every single cd sold that night.
Next: yes, the first video off of SITB will be making it's debut soon, thanks for asking. We will be showing it here first, within the next few weeks. And of course it's not just us in a room, lip syncing to our own music (you know us better than that, don't you?). We can't wait to get it out there, should be a good time.

Well your post wasnt very constructive but Ill agree, the actual production is much better and that so far the music shows just as much skill as EGN. The backing vocals I have no problem with at every angle (I actually have more problems with the EGN backing vocals). The drummer has a variety of drum parts in each song (a lot of the drumming is very similar to EGN drumming) and I cant ask much more from him especially since this is a variety of ska/punk. He has already surpassed most bands in the genre.
The thing I like most about it so far is that it has a lot of differences from EGN but it still shows their style a bit.

I loved this album, the only thing I feel lacking is some kind of "A better place a better time" track. You know that kind of simplicity yet perfection and the masterful build up of the song? I mean that kind of track. Having it in the middle of the album would make this an almost perfect album.
Of course I have to listen to it much more but the first impression was neat.

That video is terrible and was made for the weakest song on the album.
I don't like the way his art changed from brigth reds and blues with black and white to these muted fall colors.
The browns worked really well with BOTAR's art, but even that had bright yellows that contrasted well against the reds.
If someone sees this album on the shelves they'll think it's some crap acoustic rock band.
The album is great, aside from the pointless solos in half the songs.
The title track would be on par with Point Counterpoint if it weren't for the utterly crap solos in the middle.

it feels like a lot of the songs had tacked on gimmicks unfortunately. watch it crash could have been ended a full 2 minutes earlier, skipping the whole system of a down breakdown thing. if i get bored i may edit all the songs down a lot shorter and see if it makes it better.

Any one else find Forty Days to be absurdly catchy?

yeah, i like that song. It is catchy. I actually think the choruses stick a lot stronger in your head than the EGN ones did.

yea, and while we're chopping off all the cool solo's we can cut out the intros, the outros and maybe reduce all the songs to one chorus each.

I'm not talking instrumentals, I'm talking the obvious, semi-improvised solos. In a band where every note is purposefully placed, they disrupt the whole feel of the song.
The solos I'm talking about don't feel like part of the song. Here's to life has a really long solo, but it is essential to the song. Every note is placed purposefully. These solos feel improvised. For the same reason why the only songs they re-recorded for Keasby Nights that aren't better than their Catch 22 counterparts are the songs with solos. It's the difference between high school solos, which people play for fun, and a touring musician's solo, who feels he might have something to prove.
My guess is Thomas got nice and let his band mates write a few lines. And they tried too hard to impress.
And also, yes, there are a few intros and closures that could benefit from a trim. Half the songs are a minute too long. Mercy Me starts building to a great ending then repeats the intro. It's not that the intro doesn't work an ending, but the song builds toward an ending twice.
And the album intro (we will fall together) is pointlessly long, which is why it doesn't work for a video. Compare it to the first track on A Call to Arms, which is a much longer intro. ACtA's intro builds and builds to the start of the second track. WWFT, on the other hand, is aimless. It builds, then falls, then builds again, then goes into a solo, then a duet then a solo and finally into the start of the song. By the time it starts it's lost all the momentum from the intro.
In many ways this album is better than EWN. It's production is better. The drums sound better, which is partly because the production is better, but also because the songs are more rhythmic. Somewhere in the Between and Would You Be Impressed don't sound at all like SM or Catch 22. Their surface is the same, because Thomas has a distinctive voice, all songs are in the same basic range, the instruments and guitars have the same tone from song to song. There are fewer repeated choruses, fewer anthems and more call and response.
But it's less consistent. We'll see how it feels after 50 or 60 listens.

this is called a hook if i'm not mistaken.
but i've only heard down down down, watch it crash and the song with th video so i can't really speak for the album in general. but from what i've heard i tend to disagree.

New album is a grower, unlike EGN which was awesome on first listen.

WTF!!! I'm gone for like a week and then the new Streetlight leaks!!!!
Anyways, I won't download it anyway so it doesn't matter too much.
What really matters for me is that they've announced the new dates for the upcoming world tour: http://www.streetlightmanifesto.com
And this time they are going to come to my town, which they have never been before. That is absolutely awesome even though RBF is going to headline. They are going to play at one of the greatest venues in a really cool place called Christiania.

I absolutely do. In fact it became my instant favorite the first time I heard the album.
I don't know what my favorite is right now. All I know is the album is awesome. My only "complain" about it is the lack of some kind of "A better place, a better time" song. You know the perfection through simplicity and absolutely astonishing build up through the song. It is just so amazing. If there was that kind of track in this album it would be just as good as EGN.

****ing Ticketmaster.
Well, I guess I have to go to lancaster to get tickets, rather than pay twice the ticket price...
i really like the trumpet in one foot on the gas, one foot in the grave but that's just me...
oh screw off tom and come to canada again!
Mm... didn't like the video that much, the song's good though.
I really dig the title track at the moment, but why the hell wasn't that the album closer.
