They need to headline. Last time I saw them Headline was in 2004. I didn't know them at the time but a friend told me to go, and I am so glad I did. It was in a small local venue, it was packed, the floor was moving so much from all the dancing, and the music was fantastic.

Saw Streetlight the other night in Michigan. Good stuff. They played around 3 new songs, and Tomas said the new album is recorded and just needs to be mixed and things of that nature.

I'm buying streetlight tix this weekend for cleveland. They're playing at one of our smaller venues, not like House of Blues last time. In my opinion, they have taken ska, and turned it into a serious genre of music. And I reward them for that. It's become more sophistocated, and serious. However, I still do enjoy the fun ska. Which is why with Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto, and Against All Authority (eh), this should be the best show I've ever been to.

07-12-2007, 10:53 AM
^ i just came back from that show and it was AMAZING. AAA was nothing special all the songs sound the same(fast punk for verse/chorus, then a trumpet interlude). Next was SM after some technical difficulties they played awesome, the whole crowd was singin everyword besides for the 2 new songs they played. The RBF was up and they have to have the best stage presnce of any band ever, they played really tight. they did a fews songs off thier new album and they started the show with sellout which is unusual. Then LTj was on but i didnt stay fo them since i saw them less than 2 months ago.

B) Want to see Streetlight headline.
Meh. I dunno.
CombatRock
07-29-2007, 01:32 AM
I would save your money and wait till Streetlight headlines are tour.
When I saw streetlight headline it was cheaper than when I saw them with RBF, one of the reasons the first show was better.
I wish that the Gig Diary thread wasn't deleted by hackers, because I'm pretty sure I wrote a review of the show in there.

New websites looks good.
So what do you guys think about them making a video? I can't really se any reason why they should do so.
Other than that it probably doesn't matter, as long as they don't get enormously big.
Catchthe22

you shouldnt be scared about a band getting big. Just be scared if they start to suck. Im happy they are making a video.
Henrik
08-14-2007, 05:35 PM
I like when bands play at smaller venues, that's all. And I would really hate it if Streetlight got as big as Reel Big Fish or maybe Less Than Jake.
And seriously, many bands seem to become a lot worse when they get bigger for some reason.
I don't know how many times I've heard the sentence: "Yeah that band rules but you should definitely start up with their debut, it's their best effort".
Or: "That band ruled....once!

Try and look under "artists". Of course there is Streetlight and Botar. But a third name appears, and I have never heard of it: Dan Potthast?
Who or what is Dan Potthast ??? A new Risc Group project? Cause that would be cool.

the capitolization of the word 'The' makes the title amazing.
I don't really pay attention to album titles. All this means is that it's just a step closer to actually being released, which is cool.
It kind of sucks for streetlight manifesto, though, because when a first album like that gets so much critical acclaim, the second is bound to dissapoint, even if it's not bad.

I actually don't mind the title, at least it makes you think a little, but of course it comes down to the music. If they called it "Butterscotch Love Puppies Make Me Sweat Perfection" then I might be concerned.
I hope overall the album is a big change from their last album. After 4 years from their last release it should be expected and I like when a band can constantly change. To me if a band doesn't change, their flare that excited me in the beginning keeps fading and fading until I don't even care to listen to the new stuff.
If I had to guess this album is going to be somewhere in the between of a 4 and a 4.5. Anyone else want to take a guess on how they think it is going to turn out?
DougJI
08-22-2007, 07:12 PM
either a 1 or a 5. Either it will be better than their last album, which would make it absolutely amazing, or it will disappoint, and make it hard to rate it anything but a 1.

Everything Goes Numb is seriously one of my favourite albums ever. I probably have listened to it more than any other album I own. To be honest, I can't see it topping it so I am slightly scared for a disappointment but we'll have to see. I really hope every song is anthemtic in the same way EGN was.

:) Yeah I kinda figured that out, but the last time I checked the trumpet player looked completely different.
Why do they keep changing members?
Stuart Karmatz left and was replaced by Paul Lowndes
Jim Conti took the place of Pete Sibilia.
Paul Lowndes left so Chris Thatcher joined the band as his replacement, and has been with Streetlight ever since.
On the album, Jamie Egan played both trumpet and trombone, but as he would not be able to do this live Mike Soprano joined on trombone.
Josh Ansley announced his departure to pursue an acting career. Chris Paszik performed in his place.
Egan left to spend more time with his family and concentrate on his music teaching job at North Brunswick High School in North Brunswick, New Jersey. Delano Bonner came in to play trumpet.
Dan Ross had planned to leave after the The Ska Is Dead 2 to pursue a business career, and was forced to leave early just before the end of the tour due to a family crisis.[11] He has been replaced by Mike Brown.
Sometime between December 3, 2006 and July 3rd, 2007, Delano Bonner left the band. Sometime before the recording of Streetlight's new untitled album, Matt Stewart took over Delano's spot at trumpet.
(In order of departure)
1. Stuart Karmatz - Drums (no reason given)
2. Pete Sibilia - Tenor Saxophone (no reason given)
3. Paul Lowndes - Drums (left? no reason given)
4. Josh Ansley - Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals (acting career)
5. Jamie Egan - Trumpet/Trombone (family and teaching job)
6. Dan Ross - Alto and Baritone Saxophone (business career/family crisis)
7. Chris Paszik - Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals (not even mentioned)
8. Delano Bonner - Trumpet (no reason given)
Matt Stewart on trumpet (Joined July 2007)
Mike Brown on alto and baritone saxophone (May 2005)
Jim Conti on alto and tenor saxophone (was on EGN)
Tomas Kalnoky on guitar and vocals (was on EGN)
Pete McCullaugh on the bass guitar (????)
Mike Soprano on trombone (was on original touring lineup)
Chris Thatcher on drums (was on original touring lineup)
So I mean the only real changes in the past few years have been Matt Stewart, Pete McCullaugh and (2 years previous) Mike Brown. Everyone else has been around since EGN/their first tour.
Id probably put it on something to do with the horn players not being able to live off of what they were getting paid because Tomas writes all the song (little if any portion of album sales)
Streetlight isn't huge.
They support their own tours and recording and whatnot.
Plus I'd have to say I might be a little ticked if I didn't make the kind of money I was expecting... It's always about money.

but it would be cool to just have a chillen slow song even if it were with fast vocals. As the footsteps die out starts slowish and thats not bad. in fact, most of that album is slowER than EGN anyway, though still not slow by most standards. but i think it would be possible and decent.

I got ****ing rocked right from the beginning and went to the left, I ended up next to kalnoky and 3 songs later i got shoved into the skanking circle and ended up by matt steward before making it back into the centre just to the right of kalnoky. I kept my eyes open for you but you're so damn short.
DougJI, were you the kid who was suppose to crowd surf throughout the whole song while they played A moment of Violence?
No, I was the huge fat kid with one checkered shoe skanking next to tomas for like 5 seconds during Here's to life (which was the encore incidentally...) and then stage dove and ****ing died.
Failing Flailing was probably the best song of the night. I felt so ****ing cool when they played Watch it Crash and I knew all the words, Mike Brown (their bari-sax player) was like =O when he saw me singing all the words hahaha.
They played everything off of Everything Goes Numb except The Saddest Song, and they played Watch it Crash and Impressed, and there was 2 horn interlude solo jiggers. Personally I thought their worst song of the night was either We Are The Few or Point/Keasbey/Counterpoint. I didn't even realize what song they were playing till like a minute into We Are The Few.

You get to that screen where there are 6 or so check boxes. Since it is video application you probably only want the first box checked (access my personal information). That basically means you can watch videos on facebook but your actual profile page wont change or give any clues that you have the application. Other applications are designed to be put on your profile page so for those ones you will want to check some of the other boxes.

Yeah, I'd never see RBF and LTJ just to see SM open. They're both really annoying.

I'm not sure if I wanna download it before it's officially out.
I like to buy cd's by artists I really like. And a bought cd is never as good if you already downloaded it before.
Streetlight album leak is imminent... as in, within the day.

It will leak soon, I imagine. I'd give it a couple weeks or so. I'll keep my eyes out for it on OiNK.

Last third is about Tomas and Streetlight. Plus I know Matt Wixon, so I thought it was pretty funny.

you might be confusing his voice with the sax players, he's doing a lot more vocals than before i believe and they sound very similar.
snippets all sound awesome, so at least we know it will be out before november...
and an australian RBF\LTJ\SM tour in the works for those that didn't get the clue...
hmmm, hope that the have solo shows in between the tour. don't like LTJ.

the art is cool. To me it represents the heavens, hell and earth in between. And it looks like Tomas's work.
