thanks for the gimp album henrik. and does anyone know what tomas says at the end of the rap like part of giving up giving in? i cant figure it out for the life of me and i cant find it on the internet.

Isn't it in the liner notes of the original Keasbey Nights album?

You DID buy the album right?

(I may be wrong here, I'm at work so I can't check-- I'll check and post it when I get home)

A full length BOTAR album is gonna be better than the first time you got a blowjob from the cute brown haired girl that lived downstairs from you in your college dorm Freshman year of college

Henrik

I pretty sure I heard an Interview with one of the members, saying that the "99 songs of Revolution" was an old idea that would never be.

I like Streetlight the best, they play live. Botar have to few songs.

Okay, here's a technical question. Person who answers correctly wins a red snapper (very tasty!) or what's in the box

How many bars is the instrumental break in "Kristina" (the C22 original)?

Teeb
08-30-2006, 11:04 PM
88. Five 16 bar solos, and an 8 bar bass solo.

Box! Box!

Is the new C22 worth checking out? Their other two without Tomas are embarassing.

Catchthe22
08-31-2006, 12:10 PM
I say they are. I did a review on their new CD "Permanent Revolution". But if you didnt really even like Alone in the Crowd and Dinosaur Sounds a bit; id say you probably wont like Permanent Revolution. The vocals are better than on Dinosaur Sounds. THe music is more mature than the others but if you didnt even have any positives from the past ones I dont see this album changing your views enough. Still worth a try to check them out though.

I think they're mediocre but nothing special, so this one might do something for me.

tappenzee
08-31-2006, 12:23 PM
Sad that they named their album "Permanent Revolution" since BOTAR has been planning "99 Songs of the Revolution" for years now. That idea's probably scrapped since.

Speaking of which, what do yous think of this line from "Moment of Silence" (the subliminal C22 disses seem abundant in this song, but is this another shot at them?)

"sit tight but the revolution's years away
i'm losing faith and i'm running low on things to say
so i guess i have no choice but to regurgitate
the tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite"

ThisUserIsAPipebomb
08-31-2006, 01:07 PM
Nope. Don't think that's a rip on them.

What other lines are rips on C22?

shangbang
08-31-2006, 01:15 PM
The only line that I thought was a rip on C22 was "If you hate me so much, then stop singing my songs" from A Moment of Silence

08-31-2006, 01:27 PM
The only line that I thought was a rip on C22 was "If you hate me so much, then stop singing my songs" from A Moment of SilenceYeah that's the one I always think of when I consider them ripping on C22.

tappenzee

I dunno, I always think of that entire song (or at least the majority of it) as being at least in part inspired by the beef with the C22 members.

Maybe naming their album Revolution was an intentional attack because Tomas covered the only good album that Catch 22 ever made.

The new C22 is a concept album about revolution so I don't think it was an attack. Do you honestly think they're still that pissed at each other?

How does revolution and Tom redoing Keasby Nights have anything to do with eachother? Maybe I just don't get it.

Yeah Household Name are bringing Ska Is Dead to the UK in November/December. Mustard Plug/Planet Smashers/Bomb The Music Industry + UK guests on one tour, I thought Big D were meant to be playing that but maybe I was mistaken.

And yeah, to the person above me I think we can pretty much assume Skachilles is gone now. Bandwidth was obviously costing an arm and a leg.

Westbound Train are so sweet live.

Hell yeah they are! You've seen them too? I saw them with Big D and Voodoo Glowskulls and they stole the show. I'm not really a Bid D or Voodoo Glowskulls fan though. And of course they got the least response from the crowd because everyone was there for the 3rd wave ska-punk sound. But me and my friends were getting real into it when Westbound Train was playing and people were just staring at us.

AIRIC
09-27-2006, 07:54 PM
Yeah I think I saw them at the same show. It was really sweet man. I just got in from smoking and then they came on and I was so pumped for being a trad band.

I really enjoy 3rd wave when i can get into it (I'm noit really a big fan anymore), but a band that wasn't 3rd wave at ska is dead was awesome and being high at the same time made it a perfect set. I would definintely see them again.

Stealing the show is when Motion City Soundtrack open for Rufio or the Suburban Legends open for Reel Big Fish.

10.27.06

soooooo..... we are playing jersey again! Once again we will be playing the starland ballroom on december 3rd, this time for the light of day benefit, a particularly awesome organization. all proceeds from ticket sales will go towards parkinsons and ALS research. so far, as far as we know, it's just us, but other bands are to be announced soon, as well as some special guests. also, this will be our last (and first in a long while) headlining show for some time, as we are offically and definately not playing any more shows or doing any more tours until the new record is complete. as for that, we are a good chunk into the recording process and we're all very very very psyched for this one to be released. once again, this will be our last show for quite some time (knowing how long it takes us to record/mix ;-) so if you'd like to see us live and support a great cause this is your one chance for a few months. thanks and see you all soon...

I don't agree with the statement in any way though.

Unfortunately I missed Streetlight when they came through here a few days ago. I was checking their tour dates and I was all, "oh **** that's right now!"

To be honest, I don't really like the "gypsy"-esque stuff as much as I like their more traditional stuff. I like the video that was just posted, but I really hope the whole album isn't like that.

The new Streetlight Song, Would You Be Impressed, sounds a lot like a Gogol Bordello song.

is there any news on canadian dates?

Kithkin
11-25-2006, 12:39 AM
So Reel Big Fish only played 2 or 3 songs off the new album. I'm going to take it back, the new album is better than their old stuff. I forgot just how bland and boring 90% of the music between Turn the Radio Off and The New (not live) album are. Scott saves a lot of their show, but he didn't sing lead on any song save Enter Sandman... which means they didn't play the song that's also a Littlest Man Band song (and thus the best song on the middle albums).

Streetlight played Mercy Me and Would You Be Impressed. Both good songs but I really hope they're fleshed out for the album (which he said was halfway done now) since they're both really short. They didn't play the other two songs, I hope because they were cut or aren't finished (because they would only be good if another band wrote them). It was funny the difference between Thomas when he'd play EGN songs and when he played the new songs. For the old songs he was screwing around with the band and the crow but for the new songs he barely took his eyes off the crow, like he was looking for feedback.

Jas, how long has the Asian guy been the Suburban legends singer. Because I could have sworn the last time I saw them, it was a shaggy white guy, and the first two times I saw them it was a preppy white guy... but now I'm not so sure. I mean, the voice is certaintly different from Origin, but that could just be a natural progression.

And no, they didn't mention any canadian dates while up on stage.

It's a short clip of Streetlight playing what in my ears sounds like a new song. At least I don't know who else should have made it. Anyways, I think it sounds awesome. My guess of a name would be "Mercy Me" or "Ain't no turning back".

I really can't wait for a new album. It's without doubt the most exciting I have ever been for an album to be released.

In that case I would like to quote my own guess from late July. :chug:

New Post from their website:

"hello.
in response to the recent wave of emails regarding the subject, we'd like to announce that our new record is most definitely not coming out today, january 23rd. we're not entirely sure how this date ever came about, and we're flattered that our next release is a matter of interest to at least those of you who have written in asking about today, but today's just not the day.
we're taking our time fine tuning and recording, we're not rushing anything and we're certainly not attempting to meet anyone's deadlines. music, at least for us, is not a product or part of a business plan and therefore we cannot give a due date for the record to you, to our label, even to our own friends and families. we are working on the record and it is coming along. any dates mentioned in the future by anyone other than this here website can be written off as speculation and here-say, regardless of the source. thanks for reading and sorry for the confusion.

A bit of news from their official site:

03.15.2007
So, a few tidbits from SM H.Q.:
1) Streetlight is going out this summer for a 2 month north american tour with reel big fish and less than jake. Dates will be posted soon. after that they'll be headlining again.

2) Yes, the new record will most definately be finished by then and they will be playing new material as well as old material. Finally!

3) Dear europe: Yes, SM will be seeing you (and more of you than the last two times ;-) sometime after the summer tour and the record's release. It's been too long, we know. zut alors!

4) We need some help coding the new site. If you are very proficient with CSS, dhtml, clean code, some flash and blog customizing, please contact jarekotar@gmail.com with some samples of your work. In return, we will bury you in merch, cds, free tickets and whatever else we can think of.

Until next time!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. That is the best news I've heard in a while. LTJ are the only "landmark" 3rd wave band I still need to see, and every Streetlight show i've been to has be absolutely amazing, so this is a golden lineup.

:) I'm glad for you. Even though I probably wouldn't put my expectations too high about a Less Than Jake show nowadays. I think their old stuff is decent, but the new material is terrible.

Well they played 2006 warped tour and my friends who went said they still have a horn section. They have to play atleast a few of the old songs, and if you guys have ever seen Goldfinger do "superman" without horns, you'll know how much it sucks, so I don't see why they wouldn't have one.

Their self-titled is full-on 3rd wave ska punk, The Beacon Street Collection, Tragic Kingdom is my favorite of theirs, it has a lot of solid ska tracks (Spiderwebs) but not all of it has horns. It went "diamond" though, which is 10,000,000 records sold. Return of Saturn is really good too.

I'm really excited they're coming to albany. They played in poughkeepsie a year ago, but the day before I was gunna go see them I had a pretty serious accident and thrashed up my hand, so I couldn't go. I still have the tickets :upset:

I did send an email to streetlight HQ asking if they are planning on coming to Toronto anytime in the next year and haven't got a response yet, not that I was expecting one.

Toronto's ska scene = kick ***.

Another band, Facade and The expos. Good to see some GTA ska lovers.
