Let's face it, for the majority of you, when you read the title of the thread the first thing you thought was "from experiences/events in my life"...Okay, thats great. I do it too...But what about when nothing has happened or you have a "dry" spell? I want to know what you do. Where do you turn?
The only answer that's not valid in this thread is "experiences/events from my life" unless of course you just sit and wait during you dry spells..then that answer is legal...
Come on, lets hear it?

Write about your friend's life experience. Write what you believe in. It doesn't always have to be your own life experience. Be creative, write what your feeling. If you're not feeling anything at the time, write about it.

Ohh I do all that...I have some ways of finding inspiration myself...I was just curious how other people went about it....I'm not really looking for tips on how to find inspiration. Thanks though.

Yep songs don't have to mean anything. If you can't think of something meaningful to write about then just starting writing and try and make it sound nice.
I find myself doing this alot of the time. Just writing about anything can help you improve especially finding new words you would perhaps not use in certain themed songs. You never know, you could write about nothing and end up really liking it.

I don't really write about life experiences so much, I mean, it works like this for me: If I see something that really disturbs me, I write about, but thats pretty much the extent of my life-experience writing. Most of the time though, I write about what I'm thinking. Whether I'm pissed or whatever, that's what goes in the song. Also, I do just start singing/writing/wahtever, and when I'm done I go through it and think, shi.t, I have been worrying about this, havn't I. It works nicely, not that I'm the best writer or anything, but it turns out fine. Also, in dry spells, don't expect much, write poetry during dryspells, then when they end go back to songwriting. Oh, here's something for dryspells. Get up in the middle of the night and ramble on paper. Write everything and anything, and also try and write some really nice pieces. That always helps me get stuff done when I'm not normally. Well, hope this helps.
