not really, it's more 'B-Sides and other Rarities'. People always say it's their Best Of when there's only two actual singles on it (Holiday in Cambodia and California Uber Alles)

but Pull My Strings is hot.

Yeah, i thought it was like that.

It's ace, i love some of the querky songs on it.

^^^
It has no repeated songs really, since both the Holiday and Uber Alles are different versions then what have been on previous albums.

[QUOTE=Brain Toad]
And all my CDs and Vinyls are Manifesto releases unfortunely, except Bedtime which is an AT release. I'm hoping to get vinyl ATs soon.

Where did you get the AT releases ???

I got Bedtime and one Frankenchrist at Rasputin record store, in the used section. I got the second Frankenchrist in the new section at The Beat record store. I'm getting a couple AT releases on eBay soon.

Yeah, i thought it was like that.

It's ace, i love some of the querky songs on it.

I love Night of the Living Rednecks, but I like it more in context because Jello starts making fun of Ray for having to go off stage to tune his guitar because he is too shy. The show it's from (Portland, Oregon) is a really good show from them.

Sounds like a reference to How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but I'm not sure.

I know I Fought the Law and I Won is a reference is to the "Twinkee defense" trial where a man shot and killed the mayor of San Francisco and a head city supervisior and said it was because of junk food made him depressed.

Not sure if any of you read Dr. Seuss, but he was part of my life in Elementary School. IT's about these 'sneeches' that put stars on their bellies to fit in. Really does fit into the song where he goes "You want everyone to be like you"

I'm trying to debate whether I want to bid on this Frankenchrist vinyl with poster on eBay right now. It ends in 2 hours and has jumped from $7 yesterday to $21.50 today, and I'm afraid it'll go too high for my limit, even though it's already past my $15. I kind of want to get it, but I also rather find it in a record shop myself and treasure my find.

Also have some other DK related auctions I'm watching, including Klaus Floride's solo album (vinyl), and In God We Trust Inc AT vinyl, Skateboard Party bootleg vinyl, and a Tumor Circus unplayable picture disc.

Well I decided not to get the Frankenchrist album. The Klaus got bumped up too high for my tastes ($13 is a bit much for something thats not that special to me) and put in a bid on the IGWTI vinyl. I'm more than likely going to get the Tumor Circus as long as the high bid isn't something outragous, and more than likely the Skateboard Party one.

I got the FFFRV remaster/DVD for christmas and today I watched the DVD. It was ridiculously short and only talked about DK in there FFFRV times and I was expecting alot more. Other than that it was great. Really good live footage and good talks with Klaus and Ray even though Ray seems like an idiot.

Also, I was bummed they didn't talk to Jello. I hate that he pretty much stays out of any business that involves DK now. Really dissapointing.

It's more that he is still pretty upset at the band for the suit and is just holding to his beliefs that he was right. A bit stubborn, but he has reasons for why he is avoding them.

And if it was just about FFFRV, then interviewing DH would be pointless, as he didn't join that band until PSD.

I had a dream and at one point I turned on the tv and a band that looked like Slipknot or some s'hit nu-matal band that wore masks was playing Too Drunk To F'uck, but oddly enough Jello was still singing it. Ghey.

And why was Pull My Strings never studio recorded? Its awesome.

Mild_child

Good question, maybe because they totally ripped 'my sherola' in it? it was such a killer song, I wished they did it in the studio. The Geetar solo is cool.

Brain Toad
01-04-2006, 04:28 PM
I think it's better live because of the whole they start playing Uber Alles then Jello stops them, proclaims they for adults now, then jump into Pull my Strings, so it's better live.

In other news, I won the In God We Trust Inc vinyl for $9.50 on ebay. I'll be bidding on the Tumor Circus more then likely, and as long as the Skateboard Party doesn't go up too high, that too.

He went to sleep in the van once in 1986 and Ray put his dick in his mouth, Klaus took a picture and DH had it blown up and projected onto the GOlden Gate Bridge. Jello was not happy.

True story.

Brain Toad

Whats the deal with Jello being mad at DK? I've never heard the whole story.

This is what I remember, you can find both sides online. deadkennedys.com has the band's point of view.

When the band broke up, they went their seperate ways and such, but were still friends. But Ray and the rest of the band supposdly tried to sell Holliday in Cambodia to Levi's for a commercial, and Jello wouldn't allow it, and since it was on his label, he supposdly had more control over the songs. The band then accused Jello of hording royalities and they went to court over it. The trial lasted until last year when Jello just got fed up with it and ended the case, paying back whatever they said he owed them. During this time the rest of DK tried to set up reunion tours for different causes and tried to get Jello to come back, but of course he wouldn't.

I've seen all 3 of the seperate ones (well 2 and a half), but have not seen the one that came with the reissue of FFFRV. DMPOs on Broadway is a really fun live show, and I recommend it. In God We Trust Inc: The Lost Tapes is pretty interesting because you get to see the band record, but would've been better had you been able to hear what Ray and DH were saying (only Jello and Klaus had mics). I only saw half of the Early Years, so I can't say anything about that one.

My favourite video of them is one not on DVD, but the Portland, Oregon show which was made famous by Night of the Living Rednecks. It's one of my favourite live shows of theirs, and of course Jello is fantastic.

The gloves, I have no sure idea. Could be a parody of Michael Jackson. He is an acting student and he probably just enjoys them as props, because it makes his hands look weird and he can take them off and play with them and such.

Watched the vid. Very very very tiny, jesus christ.

But it was odd. I've seen Klaus with gray hair, but he still looks silly with it. DH looked like a gangsta with his sleevless shirt and big muscle arms. And Ray was really really active on stage, which is odd because in all the old vids he barely is standing up while playing and I've even seen one vid where he just goes and sits in the back of the stage while he plays. Penalty was alright, really active on stage, but he's no Jello. Stage wise only, I won't judge his vocals, as no one can have the same vocals as Jello.

What was the Mr Bungle cover of Drug me released on?

There was three actually.

The Virus 100 tribute was a celebration of AT's 100th release, so they decided to tribute the band that created the label. This one has my favourite DK cover on it, NoMeansNo's cover of Forward to Death. It also has a really odd cover of Nazi Punks **** Off from Napalm Death and Sepultra's Drug Me

The other is called What We're We Fighting For. I'm not sure who put it out, but it does have an Anal Cunt version of Religious Vomit which is funny. Other than that it's a bland tribute.

The other is the strangest of all. It's called In Dub We Trust. It is a dub tribute to DK. But not the dub you associate with King Tubby, but a more electronica version. Some of the songs are really interesting and really well done.

And in other news, I ended up not getting anymore vinyl. The Tumor Circus one had 1 bid and the guy's maximum must've been over my limit, which was $10 on that release. And it ended up selling for $20.50.

DK Facts!

So here is some song related DK facts.

Most request song live: Rawhide. Nearly every bootleg I have has at least 1 person shouting for Rawhide to be played.

Songs that were played live but were never recorded in studio for release

Yeah the numbers are accurate, but you could probably safely say that song was played the most during shows.

DK played hundreds of shows. You're using a far too small spread for the survey, admittedly the best spread you're probably going to get, and it does give some indication of popular songs but it's by no means definitive.

If you took the numbers away from the most popular songs list it'd make more sense.

Yeah, shouldn't've put the numbers, but they work for understanding out of my sample how much differences is between the songs.

And out of how many times Rawhide is requested, it is surprsingly low in my sample, only 4 plays. I think the band actually really hated the song, but the fans loved it for some reason. I don't like it.

Last night I was looking at my DK videos and I found what I don't remember watching. It was a video of them performing Forest Fire on Belgian TV in 1980. But it wasn't a ture live performance, it was more like a music video, with them lipsyncing/playsyncing to a recording.

This became evident when Jello knocks of DH's drumset, but the drums continue going. Jello goes running around the drumset, stopping sometimes to lipsynch the words. DH starts playing the set from odd angles because of what Jello did. Then he ventually strips to his tighty whities and is parading around some more. EBR is staying out of it for the most part. Klaus just looks like a retard who has never picked up a bass before and is holding it very awkwardly. Near the end Jello is still jumpin around in his underwear and eventually hopes on Klaus' back and starts ****ing with his bass.

It was hilarious.

*bump*

Remember how I had 3 copies of Frankenchrist on CD? I've finally figured out the difference between all three.

The first is the original CD release of the album on Alternative Tentacles. It has the year (1985) and the note about the poster being recalled and asking for donations to the Legal Defense Fund. The actual CD has no sticker and has the words printed on it.

The second is the CD reissue on Alternative Tenetacles. This has a AT catalog from Fall 2000, before the rest of the band sued Jello and told him to stop putting out their CDs on his label. This again has the note about the poster being recalled, but does not ask for donations to the fund. The actual CD is a reddish brown color with the AT logo, and band and album name.

The third is the remaster issue from Manifesto records. The back replaces the AT logo with the DK logo, with a little Manifesto logo in the corner. The booklet tells the story of the trial as well, with more added and no mentions of donations to the Legal Defense Fund. Plus there is more pictures in the booklet. The actual CD is white with two people wearing fezes.

The two AT releases contain little coupons you clip to send off for the poster, but it's hard to tell if it is an actual promotion or not (they ask for SSI number, Draft registration number, religion and sexual preference).

Nice to finally figure it out. I was going to sell one, but now that I know the true difference, I probably won't.

Brain Toad
04-15-2006, 03:41 PM
I don't think either side were right. Both had good points, but both had some really stupid reactions to the entire thing.

Jello shouldn't've held royalities from the rest of the band. The rest of the band shouln't've tried to put the songs in commercials, etc.

But the band also shouldn't've been assholes about Jello putting out their albums, then putting out remasters and live albums without even talking to him about it.

And Jello's constant bitching about what the band did is really annoying.

Jello Biafra is a hero solely on the fact that he ran for mayor of Sanfrancisco.

I like that album.
Which?

Brain Toad

In God We Trust Inc is probably my favorite release from them. I have two versions of it on vinyl, the remaster/reissue and the AT original.

Jello's mayoral race inspired me and I thought about running for mayor of my city, but I don't have the funds.

Hey guys check this out, some of you may have probably seen this already but I find it intresting...

http://www.120seconds.com/features/020419_biafra/feature/index.html

A bunch of videos from Jello's speech in Vancouver. Pretty funny/intresting.
What song is in the background when Jello's talking? I know it's a medley of Soup is Good Food and MTV Get off the air but what's that song at the begining?

Frankenchrist would work better on vinyl I think as it's really two EP's put together. One's dark and atmospheric and the other's bouncy and satirical.

heh their dark psychadellic-ness made the album more intresting imo.

I just saw that Forest Fire promo you guys were talking about on youtube.
That's awesome, and I think the reason Klaus looks like he's "never touched his bass before" was because he was playing it upside down/left handed. It was funny though how half the song, the guys weren't even playing their instruments and I love when Jello took off his dress and started singing in his briefs.

Who is Tipper?
Wife of Al Gore. During the 80s and 90s she started the Parents Music Resource Center aka the PMRC who pushed for the censoring of artists who used explicit lyrics and such. They were behind the Parental Advisory stickers that no adorn many CDs. They took a bunch of artists to court, including Jello. Many artists fought back, most notably Ice T, Dee Snider, Frank Zappa, and John Denver.
