im currently in a band where i play bass and provide backup vocals which i dont consider myself great at but my singer insists i am pretty good. one of the covers were doing is smells like teen spirit, in which the lead singer wants me to sort of sing the chorus in a grimey, raspy voice while he sings it more melodically to hopefully get a unique scratchy but still musical sound....i have no problem matching his voice while singing traditionally, but singing with a scrathcy type voice is a challenge for me....so, any tips on how to sing in a scratchy voice would be helpful

Sure, just search these forums for singing with rasp, just search for "rasp" really, and you'll find alot in the other singing threads on this type of singing.

I used to think the rasp was the reason I couldnt sing that part either. In actuallity, thats a really high part to sing. You'll definetely need to work on breath support, and it works for you, switch parts and sing the verse because that parts alot easier. :thumb:
