First band recording

Not sure if this is the right sub-forum for this, but whatever. My band recorded our first original song today, and im looking for feedback. Also, i know you can barely hear the lyrics, is there any software floating around i can use to "clean" the sound, or do we mneed to buy a decent recording thing? We used a mp3 with a mic, are there any better cheapish methods we can use in future?
