too much distortion from line-in?

hi, i plugged the mic cable up to my rp-200 pedal to record some (clean) riffs, but the louder parts of the recording are distored. can anyone tell me what gains or settings i have to change?

probably your pedal gain, lower it. When it crosses a certain volume, the signal "clips" distorting the sound.

this is all about headroom. your lower parts are good, but your peaks cross the very harsh 0dB mark above which digital clipping occurs. You have to give yourself headroom when setting a level based on the average volume you are hearing. This means you set a typical signal several dB below clipping, so there is 'space' for peaks.
